Welcome to the THUNDER FIRE BOMB REVIEW #13 @!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@! Revolution Pro Wrestling "The Start of Something Big" (9/11/95) (by Phil Dean) This is the new Ian Rotten promotion after he left ECW. The drugs are easily flowing in LA, so it makes sense he would go there to start a garbage promotion there. There seems to be some deal with FMW in place, as this takes place a few days before their tour and the American guys are all over this. Fidel Sierra vs. Flash Flanagan How do you start a new sleaze garbage promotion? You have a Southern sleaze vs Puerto Rican sleaze match! This was mastery sleeze as these do stalled, cheated, and hit each other really hard. Fidel played more of the heel, but Flash was not full on face (how could he be?). This match could had been in Memphis or WWC in the 80s and fit perfectly! Ron Rivera is the commentator and for this match James Mitchell (the former Daryl Van Horne from SMW) is the colour man. Mitchell raves about the women and drugs in LA being so much better than Smoky Mountain. Rivera is a very excitable announcer. The match ends when Sierra misses a lariat and Flash nails a Frankensteiner for the victory. JT Smith vs. Balls Mahoney Balls is Boo Radley from SMW fame, but now is billed as Balls from Nutley, New Jersey. A silly gimmick, but you have to get this tape to listen to James Mitchell's insane commentator about Balls. The match is crazy. They punch each other a lot. JT Smith missed a suicide dive which seemed to knock him out. Balls drug him into the ring and hit a Ball Breaker (sitout spinebuster) for the win. JT Smith may or may not be dead. The Southern Rockers (Steve Doll & Rex King) vs. Pat Tanaka & Ricky Santana This is the old southern style tag with The Rockers working as the heels. By the way, Tanaka & Santana is the southern babyface tag team you never knew you wanted, but you definitely want! Santana played face in peril, Rockers cheated and busted him open with brass knuckles. Tanaka came in as the hot tag. Hit his amazing flying forearm, but the Rockers broke it up. More cheating by the Rockers lead to their cheating win. Looks like this will continue and I can't wait for more. Southern sleazy tags!! Tanaka is still awesome. Santana is a great great babyface and The Rockers are fine as heels. The Brooklyn Brawler's Open Challenge Yes, the WWF's worthless Brooklyn Brawler is here to tell you that LA sucks and NYC rules and that he is the greatest brawler in the world! Look at his name, it says it all. He issues and open challenge and then the lights go out. Brooklyn Brawler vs. Sabu The lights come on and mother fucking Sabu is in the ring. He tosses a chair at Brawler's head and lays him out with a dropkick. He nails him with more chairs and then sets up a chair outside the ring. Sommersault Plancha kills Brawler through the table. Brawler is bleeding everywhere as he is brought into the ring and Sabu does the Triple Jump Moonsault for the win. A bloody killing by Sabu here and it was perfect! Brawler woozily goes to the back and is still claiming he's the best brawler in the world. Mitchell is hilarious here rooting for Brawler and praising his technique. Jinsei Shinzaki vs. Louie Spicolli Two former WWF wrestlers. One has history in Japan and the other in Mexico. This was mighty fine pro-wrestling. Shinzaki hit his cool moves, including the rope walk stuff. Spicolli used power moves like a power bomb and powerslam. Unlike the rest of the show, this was more of a cutting edge match. Lots of heat for this too, as the crazy loved Shinzaki. The finish saw Shinzaki go for a super frankensteiner, but Louie turned it into a super power bomb off the top! Wrestling baby! Louie looks to have a big future as he is young, has a great look, and can really go. Maxx Payne vs. Horace Boulder (No Rules) This was two ugly men punching each other in the face and hitting each other with weapons. It was violent, but mostly kept in the ring. Payne took advantage of chairs and a crutch he stole from someone at ringside. This didn't go too long, but was fun for it's style. Payne was able to make Boulder submit to the Fujiwara armbar after repeatingly beating his arm with the crutch. The State Patrol's Big Surprise Yes it's The State Patrol. They come out and proceed to give one of the weirdest and most bizarre promos I have ever seen. The story, as they tell it, is that The Big Boss Man called them down to Cobb County Georgia. At that meeting Boss Man explained that nobody was enforcing the rules of wrestling anymore. At that point The State Patrol was debutized and was no more. From now on Lt. James Earl Wright has become Major James Earl Wright and Sgt. Buddy Lee Parker is now Captain Buddy Lee Parker. They are no longer The State Patrol, but now are The Federal Patrol. Here in Revolution Pro Wrestling they will make sure the rules are followed. They are the law and order here. They will now leave for the evening, since the main event is a Street Fight with no rules, there is nothing to enforce. They will be back next month to punish The Southern Rockers for the rules they broke tonight. Terry Funk/Super Leather/Ian Rotten vs. Jason the Terrible/The Headhunters (Street Fight) Mitchell left the booth and was in the corner of Jason & The Headunters here. He basically just gave orders and tried not to be killed. He was replaced by Spicolli who did alright. This was exactly what you would expect. Everyone bleed and it went all over the arena. At one point Super Leather dived off the balcony onto The Headhunters. Lots of weapons were used including thumbtacks and a barbed wire baseball bat. Terry Funk was a joy to watch as he and Headhunter B were paired off most of the match. Funk was the star with his comedic wobbly selling, but also just laying into B with great punches. Super Leather came to the ring with his chainsaw and had a stare down with Jason the Terrible. Yes it was Friday the 13th vs. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre live in person. They destroyed each other with weapons all over the place too. The final pairing was Ian Rotten and Headhunter A who used the same crazy weapons, but also did some matwork. Rotten is surprisingly good on the mat, while A is not. There was so much going on through out this match that it was never boring. The camera would take turns on which pair it was showing. The finish saw Terry Funk and Headhunter A both going for moonsaults on their respective opponents at the same time. Funk hit his, while Ian Rotten moved out of the way and then hit A with a fireball for the win. A crazy, bloody, and disgusting match. If you like garbage wrestling you will love this match! Afterwards Ian Rotten got on the microphone and thanked everyone for showing up. He insulted almost every wrestling promotion, but especially ECW for having shitty hardcore wrestling. Rotten said that Revolution Pro Wrestling is on the cutting edge of hardcore wrestling and to prove it they will be back here in LA on October 13th and he is making a challenge to Sabu for a barbed-wire match. The lights go off and when they come on Sabu has appeared. They have a stare off, but the lights go off again and when they come on Sabu is gone. Sabu vs Ian Rotten is going to rule! @!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!

Critiques are one thing and that is fine. My response is to these people who are essentially orgasmic at Punk losing.
-
The same Joe Rogan who told Punk he greatly respects him and hopes to see him fight again? If the athletic commission allowed someone to fight that shouldn't, that is the athletic commission's problem. You should be ranting to them, not making fun of Punk. He's an asshole, who cares? You don't have to root for him. How is that equivalent at all? That is a beyound horrible analogy.
-
He got destroyed. Yes. He also had the time of his life. UFC made big man. If UFC is happy with this, if Punk is happy with this, and the fans went nuts in the arena so they seem to be happy with this, what is the issue?
-
The hate on Punk here and the joy people had at Punk's loss is really pathetic. UFC made big money, Punk worked hard and achieved a dream. Win-win. You may had even a star out of Gall.

Keith Scott's Tidbits for September 10th, 1995. I have it from pretty good authority that Sabu is going to win the FMW title tournament and then challenge Great Muta at the Tokyo Dome in a title v title match. Why else would Sabu leave NJPW for FMW? Big Boss Man has only agreed to go to FMW, because Misawa actually hates him, so AJPW wouldn't give him a job. What I heard is that Misawa likes to speed he hates Boss Man, who might arrest him. Not sure if Boss Man's police authority transfer over to Japan though... It's a weird time to be a hardcore fan with ECW going all pansy bringing in Mexicans and technical wimps and with no Onita anymore. I heard there is a new promotion in LA that Ian Rotten is starting. Revolting Wrestling or something? Maybe there goal is to make the audience puke? I want tapes of that! With Bret Hart going to WCW and Randy Savage going to WWF we are clearly getting closer to the Starrcade/Wrestlemania super show where the two promotions compete. I can't wait! The weirdest thing I heard this week is that Tenryu (yeah the guy from Wrestlemania 7) debuted under a mask in Michinoku Pro. It's a small indie in Mexico. He's wrestling under the name Buffalo Black.

Amazing.. I just assumed Parv took the only two Canadians he knew (Kelly Nelson & Steven Graham) and combined their names....
-
Graham Nelson from Canada, eh?
-
I can understand not being impressed by him or thinking he lives up to the hype. I get all that. It's this talk of him being awful or the worse in the tournament that completely baffles me.
-
You have such a problem here, b/c AJPW at the time was about perfect and some of the best wrestling ever. Essentially you are almost doomed to fail, due to how great the real life is. That being said, this is interesting stuff. Where will Kawada land? It's probably the best anyone could do, being put in the circumstances you are in.
-
The shutting on Sabre Jr is so bizarre to me. Yes this tournament is not his best work, but he's doing pretty good for the opponents he has. I liked the Dar match. Anyway, he's been great in Evolve this year.
-
Really enjoyed this again. The matches may be a little long, but the stories are great. I'll be tuning in monday
-
I wish we had his tape
-
Should we have some kind of trash talking thread or in-character thread? I know in my FMW section I had Shoici Arai insult AJPW, NJPW, and UWFi as wimpy wrestlers and that was fun to do.
-
Hopefully with them turning on Sting. Cuz, you know, Sting. That would be awesome! Re-doing Halloween Havoc 95, but in War Games!
-
Misawa is making a lot of defenses here! The most fighting champion in AJPW history?
-
The little stuff on SD is why it's so much better. Here Dean gives AJ a participation trophy which might seem odd. However, a month ago when AJ was feuding with Cena he ranted about hating participation trophies. It's a nice little touch like that, which sets SD apart from Raw.

How important is the finish in giving a match five stars?
Grimmas replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Pro Wrestling
Exactly. One of my favourite finishes ever is Hansen hitting the lariat on Inoki and knocking him out of the ring for a countout win. That finish helped the match and it was't "clean". -
Isn't the NXT head writer (Ryan Ward??) the head writer on SD though?
-
Wait... are we going to get that Bret Hart vs Hulk Hogan match in Japan instead of America first?

Shoichi Arai was interviewed for a local newspaper. A few notes of interest are: - Arai made fun of Shoot Style, King's Road style, Strong Style, and claimed the only truly great wrestling style is FMW's "Death Style". Misawa, Kawada, Hashimoto, Chono, Mutoh may all be great in their own way, but none of their flashy moves stand up against a good barbed-wire baseball bat to the head. The thing that makes "Death Style" so great is that it combines all wrestling styles into one plus adds weapons. "Death Style" is the only style that proves who the toughest wrestlers alive are. FMW is the "Master of Death Style" and this Grand Slam tournament will prove who the true master is. - Arai claimed that the Big Boss Man was not too happy to be in the same promotion as a serial killer in Super Leather. He stands for justice and there is no justice in serial killing. Super Leather did not like those remarks and said he will be in his friend Terry Funk's corner when they meet up in the Grand Slam on September 24th. - Arai is excited by the new talent. Not just the raid on the WING promotion that has closed it's doors, but also bringing in Sabu, Big Boss man and La Parka from North America. People in Japan know the first two, and when they see La Parka that will fall in love with him too. - A few matches added to the tours are The Headhunters challenging for the tag titles on September 14th and Miwa Sato getting a WWF Women's Title shot on September 16th. - The biggest show of the tour will be on September 26th from Korakuen Hall which will feature the finals of the Gran Slam tournament and will crown the new FMW World Brass Knuckles Champion. This show will be aired on tape delay on Television late Thursday night. From there one big FMW show will be aired monthly. - A lot the tour will be taped for a commercial tape dubbed "The Grand Slam" to be released later. FMW will start to film more of it's show for future releases. - In weird news, Arai is allowing a lot of his foreign talent to work a small indie promotion in America called "Revolution Pro Wrestling" run by Ian Rotten. The deal seems to be that as talent meet up to fly to Japan from Los Angeles, they will work the Revolution Pro show. In exchange some of that talent roster will be joining FMW on tours. The Headhunters being the first Revolution Pro talent to appear in FMW.

Revolution Pro-Wrestling has released the card for the upcoming "The Beginning of Something Big" at the Los Angeles Convention Center on September 11, 1995! In the main event: Terry Funk, Super Leather, & Ian Rotten will battle James Mitchell's team of Jason the Terrible & The Headhunters in a Street Fight! This promises to usher in the revolution of hardcore wrestling! Two former WWF stars collide as: "Hakushi" Jinsei Shinzaki faces "Rad Radford" Louie Spicolli in which promises to be a classic! In a match with no rules: Maxx Payne fights Horace Boulder and this one promises to be violent. Revolution Pro will also a host a tag-team classic as: Rex King & Steve Doll face Pat Tanaka & Ricky Satana! Two youngsters in: JT Smith and Balls Mahoney will try to figure out who the young gun of the Revolution really is. In a battle of skill and violence: Fidel Sierra squares off against Flash Flanagan. On top of all of these classics: The Brooklyn Brawler claims he will make an open challenge! Finally, wrestling fans are wildly speculating on what The State Patrol's huge announcement will be. We will find out all of this, plus more at "The Start of Something Big"!!!!!!!!!! * There will be blood and violence, if you are squeamish you might want to stay at home! Also, think carefully before bringing your children to this event.

Well well done, really fits in with ECW booking. I really hope the ECW Genesis show will be available on ECW home video in the future. Nice tag team feud to begin and Dustin/Tommy seems like a pretty good babyface team on paper.

How important is the finish in giving a match five stars?
Grimmas replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Pro Wrestling
Finishes, to me, is one of the most important parts of a match. I liken it to a movie where even if the whole thing is great, if the ended stinks I late the movie lower. -
Watching this it feels like the first War Games, a **** 3/4 absolute war. I loved the early arm work, then the bloody beatdown afterwards. The crowd was awesome. Need to see this a bunch more to gather all my thoughts.
