  1. The Dusty promo blew me away. Such heart and emotion were displayed.
  2. I like AWA as the opportunity to synch up and watch the matches because A. Matches are relatively short and action packed. B. Commentary is not very good. ( I think either bad commentary or foreign commentary is optimal for me in watching these) C. Way that AWA aired things, sound of the crowd is muddled. The mixing on AWA is pretty bad, so when I am watching in a group I usually turn up the sound at certain points to hear the crowd, but then can turn it right back down.
  3. This match does seem to be the most predictable and one I can see them fucking with. That is not a bad idea. I will especially be suspicious if this match is not the main event.
  4. How does everyone else feel about Ziggler if he cashes in tonight. This is someone that has exactly one tv win this year and is being treated as a jobber currently.
  5. Just re-iterate my rankings for those that didn't listen to the podcasts: 1. Clash 6 - one of the greatest matches I have seen 2. Wrestlewar- Strong MOTYC every year and pretty ambitious in thought 3. Chi Town Rumble - MOTYC in weaker- solid years (it would have been my #3 match in 2012 for example) but a really great 22 min main event that I would put at 4.75 stars.
  6. I will say if the Shield does lose here, I think it would be really detrimental to them in the long run like Nexus after Summerslam.
  7. I would say the more predictable route is: Rio beats show setting up WM match vs. whoever wins chamber Shield beating SuperFriends - I would be shocked if someone other than Sheamus takes the pin Rock beating Punk Chamber - Henry winning since he is being pushed, Swagger but it may be too much too soon, Jericho is wildcard, and Orton turning heel and winning
  8. I kind of feel opposite from you Will in that I think the lineup is fairly predictable on paper besides the chamber match up. I do think that something unexpected will happen on this show, just not sure what.
  9. The pace you are criticizing in this match Daniel is a reason I think others prefer Aja/Bull from 1/4 because that match starts out pretty hot then dies down with some interesting mat work before returning to a furious pace for the finish with Hokuto making her comeback. The 1/11 Toyota vs. Hokuto match also has a unique structure and pace to the majority of joshi I have seen on the yearbooks so far.
  10. Really fun match probably better than anything on WWF PPV this year minus the Summerslam stuff. As much as I love Tully, I do think this match was for the better with Bobby in there. Andre going out early also changed the dynamic. Warrior was really protected in this match and looked like a star although he was kind of annoying as hell pushing Shawn off and constantly reaching for the tag. Shawn looked really good in this match and got great air on his dives. I agree that the family Hennan narrative was fun to watch and this really started the crumbling of his main stable as even in 1990 he seemed more like solitary Perfect's manager instead of having a family unit. Good pick Grimmas and a match worth revisiting.
  11. Ok going to give running PBP so everyone knows where I am coming from and to see how this match holds up to me. Opening starts hot with Aja/Bison jumping them in the entrance way and them brawling around the ring with streamers flying. The shots aren't the stiffest but the visual of the streamers flying and the brevity of this sequence getting over the structure and pace of this match was fine. Bull/Aja then go in the ring and have a good sequence. When Aja tags to Bison, Bull is able to gain control rather easily showing her dominance. Kyoko comes in and hits a flush dropkick and well executed suplex. Bison tags in Aja who much like Bull shows the dominance over the weaker opponent and beats the shit out of Kyoko. Kyoko takes a nasty piledriver and her selling off the back fist was good. Bison works over her some more with three back suplexs. this gets a nearfall on Kyoko. Scoop slam gets another nearfall. Worst spot of match so far as Bison throws Kyoko into the ropes and looks to go for a clothesline but Kyoko doesn't bump. Bison improvises well with a tight looking chinlock. Kyoko powers out and immediately tags in Bull. Bull fires off against Bison with a back suplex, hits Aja off the apron, then chokes Bison. Bison wills her way to tag Aja and she comes in and fires off trash can shots to Bull. I have no problem with that in this type of match. She grazes Bull on the first spinning back fist but Bull sells the spot appropriately. She then wastes Bull with a couple more but misses one and Bull goes tot he ropes. Bison prevents Bull from doing the legdrop from the top and we get a moment with all four women in. Bull gets scissors and cuts a piece of Aja's hair which she freaks the fuck out over. We then get a little back and forth with the scissors and each taking hair chunks out. I liked this from danger standpoint and stipulation standpoint. The action goes to the outside for the first time since the beginning. Kyoko slams Bison on the floor which looked good. The brawling is fairly short lived out there and even though the section was pretty pointless it s was not really aimless or drawn out at all. We then get the weapons showdown that everyone seems to hate but it is again really quick I thought the shots didn't look that bad although the weapons should have been smaller. This is my least favorite section on the first watch and honestly wasn't as bad or as long as I remembered this time. That whole sequence is a 1.5 minute section. Chain gets brought in and then choking on Aja with it looks pretty gross. She also takes a header right into the post. Bison and Kyoko have a chain and run to the back where Bull takes advantage of taking a chunk out of Bison's hair. Again I wont argue that this is great stuff but it is quick and served some purpose overall. This leads to a sequence I really like where they are all 4 in the corner and Bull keeps going after Bison with the scissors and her screaming. Kyoko gets slammed to guardrail in best one of those spots so far in the match. Bison puts the choke on Bull for a while which a. gets over the move well and b. shows off bisons good facial expressions. Double ddt to Bison by Bull and Kyoko. Nasty powerbomb on Bison with a sort of botched cover but ref didn't count and Bison sold it perfectly. Aja gets tagged in and is a house of fire on bull. Heat is not great and work is not super but I wouldnt say horrible either. Koyko comes in and gets some offense of Aja. Her first back elbow from top hits Aja leg, second hits chest, and she fires off a good looking german for a nearfall. Aja reverses a move and lunges for the tag in a nice bit of desperation. Bull gains the advantage using the nunchucks on Bison and gives her another nasty powerbomb broken up by Aja. Double slingshot suplex type maneuver performed onto Bison. Kyoko bothers a springboard back fist and Bison immediately uses that to tag in Aja. Bull goes up top but gets slammed off again by Aja. They are making sure that Bull doesn't get a top rope move. Double flapjack onto Bull. Bull gets a back suplex on Bison and we get the Kyoko dive which did have a high degree of difficulty with her jumping over Bull's shoulders and she didn't totally whiff on it. She gets one leg on the dropkick in the corner against Bison and this time Bull is able to deliver the top rope legdrop which would have been it but was saved by Aja and the trashcan. Dos E Doe spot with Kyoko/Bull turning around and taking out Aja/Bison and Kyoko gets good impact on Aja with her fist. Kyoko delivers a move to Bison and Bull does another top rope legdrop to end it. I watched the post match again and it was as emotionally draining as the first time. So as far as I can see these are the things that could possibly be seen as botches by Kyoko: 1. not bumping off the clothesline attempt from Bison 2. Springboard back fist 3. Dive to floor. First two were covered great by Bison and the third did make contact and had a high degree of difficulty. Everything else from her selling to delivery of the last backfist and her suplexes looked fine. I would not call her performance great but I also wouldn't say it was bad. Adequate to good seems like a fair range because she did add a lot to the story and stuff within the match to me. I had two flaws with this match that didn't come through as much on first watch. 1. The overall story of the match had too many aimless moments like running to the back. The match was more sequences instead of a sustained theme. 2. There was too much my turn your turn stuff throughout the match. I didn't sense much peril from one member or another. Kyoko could have been worked over more to show her as the obvious weaklink on Bull's team. On the plus side, I love the way they built to the top rope moves. You also did get a sense of the stakes in losing their hair with overall desperation and using of the scissors throughout the match. I will come down from my stance of MOTYC after this watch but have no problem calling this a great match overall especially adding in the ending scene and this would have been my # 22 match of 1990.
  12. Match looked pretty fun and I am amazed at how good Doom was from GAB 1990 on. They really delivered and felt like a top act. If they would have had time to develop, I see no reason they wouldnt be remembered more fondly than Harlem Heat. Dusty on commentary is one of those great yearbook moments where you change promotions in the span of 2 hours watching a disc.
  13. Brother Love shows enters into its final phase and this may have been the point of no return. Just an out there skit with Love healing a wheelchair man that may me think the tv had turned to a Benny Hinn special for some reason.
  14. WWF as always keeping it classy with people sending their best wishes to the troops in Saudi Arabia.
  15. Not quite as breakneck a pace as previous 6 mans but still great. I think my favorite thing right now in the feud is that Misawa vs. Jumbo is still really hot but they have done such a good job of elevating Taue and Kawada now that you can intertwine any of those combos and it is heated. Jumbo was really great in this match as the wounded ace and a nice win for Taue over Kawada.
  16. I somehow was not aware of this but man how great was this. The black and white was a great touch and I loved the dog barking in the background. This may be my favorite Windham promo work I have seen. Bad Ass tag team that should have taken the straps from Doom.
  17. I find this feud entertaining as well. The dramatic music with Missy pumping iron was my favorite part.
  18. Pretty bad promo from Scott. Flair is still talking about CNN and the Omni. When did they decide to scrap that for Gainesville, GA and what caused that decision? Flair is all riled up and cutting crazy Flair promos in 1991 and they are all pretty by the numbers for him with no real standouts so far.
  19. Really hot angle. The clips from MSC looked hot and I appreciated the DQ finish with Dundee wailing on the Fabs with the racket. Them taking the advantage and hanging him was a nice visual and good way to put him on the sidelines for a while. The Fabs/Cornette promo was really good and put across how worthless Dundee is in Funk's eyes. Even though Funk is the champion and not around a whole lot, they are finding ways to keep him relevant in the promotion. Lawler gives my favorite promo of his this year. Just a fired up babyface promo vowing revenge and talking them into the seats.
  20. I think Loss undersold this as it was great. It starts with Downtown Bruno coming out in a tux and top hat and declaring himself UPTOWN Bruno now. He tells Dave Brown that he doesn't expect him to call him by the correct name because he can't even get the weather right! Lawler comes out and says that Garvin's hair may be a little too long which I don't know if that was a gay joke or him calling Garvin a woman. Match was typical bullshit but crowd was hot as hell and Garvin did really good riling them up and interacting. I enjoyed him yelling at Bruno to tell the ref that he was not cheating. Bruno was also great going in and out of commentary with Dave and they found a lot of mileage on the downtown/uptown switch. Lawler eventually drops the strap and obtains a pair of scissors that chases Garvin out of the studio. Really enjoyed this.
  21. Be interesting to see this match in full as I don't recall seeing it. Action at the end looks pretty good but you could tell they didn't really know how to take the TD 91 yet.
  22. I liked this one better than their previous match. Embry showed more fire and gave a great flurry of punches after he showed Young the sign from the crowd. They also found some interesting ways to work around a bear hug. Young was solid throughout and picks up the win by using the chain.
  23. This felt like a time warp from 8 months ago. The action was fine and "changed man" Tatum was a favorite of mine, but it feels like everyone has moved past this and as a result this was heatless and by the numbers overall. I did like Tatum being outsmarted at the finish.
  24. I will rewatch this weekend since I'm so widely divergent from everyone else. Kyoko certainly seemed frantic and sloppy throughout the match but on her dive to the outside, that was not as bothced as say the Liger/Sasuke J Cup 1994 spot as she did make some contact. She also hit Aja flush on the back fist right before the end. I am always a pro story vs. pro execution guy but I guess I will try to watch this match with a more critical tone since everyone else see Kyoko as horrendous and I took her performance to be "in over her head" and overly excitable on the first watch.
  25. The Routnda cameo was my favorite part to. Crazy ass Flair is refreshing though and a way better alternative than the Black Scorpion.
