[1990-12-16-NWA Starrcade '90] Sting vs Black Scorpion (Cage)
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in December 1990
Entrance with a spacecraft is lol worthy. God know what FLair was thinking loaded into that thing. Hearing all the conspiracy theories here make this reveal so anti-climatic I think Luger being led by Dusty is my personal favorite. Match was complete shit. -
Great intense brawl. Seeing how much Butch Reed sucked in 1989 it is refreshing to see him motivated and working hard here. Finish is a little eh butt he brawl to the back was really smart to not totally deflate the crowd.

[1990-12-16-NWA Starrcade '90] Lex Luger vs Stan Hansen (Bullrope)
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in December 1990
I think this match is a pretty good feather in Hansen's cap as it was stateside and had amazing heat in the finishing run. I want to take nothing away from Luger because he was great in this match to. Ending was pissing me off with Nick Patrick coming out counting for Hansen but Paul E's rationale on commentary that if this wouldn't have happened in the Sting vs. Sid match at Havoc, Sid would be the champion made a lot of sense. The bullrope was really small. Really fun match capping off a good year for both men.- 11 replies

[1990-12-16-NWA-Starrcade '90] Interview: Stan Hansen
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in December 1990
Pretty decent short Hansen promo hyping up their match later on. -
Good for adams getting a nice cheer. I don't think I have ever seen more opinions in a stat sheet before. Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of just having stats? This match is ok and there were a couple of cool sequences and I also enjoyed Konnan rushing in when Mysterio goes to the outside because that would count as a tag in lucha. Match didn't get enough time to develop into anything else.

[1990-12-15-NWA-Pro] Ricky Morton & Tommy Rich vs Barry Horowitz & J.W. Storm

This is kind of a wtf moment in time with Vader clearing house as a babyface. The action before the finish looked pretty good to. -
[1990-12-15-WWF-Superstars] Mr Perfect vs Kerry Von Erich
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in December 1990
Decent match effectively ending Kerry's big tv push in the WWF. Perfect wins the belt back and him and Bobby celebrating was fun to see. The Dibiase as WWF MVP is an interesting theory that I will have to give more thought to. -

First squash for the Taker. He did have a presence even in this early going. -
Tropes in pro-wrestling that you loathe
soup23 replied to Mr Wrestling X's topic in Megathread archive
Loss, the best aspects of Chikara I think hit on the strides you talk about. It honestly can be some of the best long term booking I have seen. Of course they also display my least favorite thing in wrestling, ironic comedy so it all evens out. -
Rewatched the Bock/Wahoo match again after the podcast. What a war. Matches on Tuesday were really fun and had some great moments. I thought matches 1-5 tonight on end of show list were great matches and I did enjoy the Bockwinkle studio glimpse. Bock/Wahoo is an all timer.

Great post Pete. I am bitter however you made it to the finish line before me.

We are getting a lot of new blood around here lately which is great. I just read two posts from Toby in the New Japan juniors page that was very insightful. However, I think it might be worthwhile if the newbies and maybe some "vets" on the board give a little frame of reference of where we are as a wrestling fan. I know this always help me when reading through the discussions in knowing what the general opinion of each poster going in is. I don't need a life story but hopefully this thread can be a good starting point to plunge into the world that is PWO. I will start. My name is Chad and am 26 years old. I am born and raised in the southeastern United States which coincides to my preferences structurally in a match. Since my age is reflected though, I missed out on the territory scene of the 80's and was predominantly a WWF fan for most of my childhood. Since then I have embraced all wrestling promotions and enjoy really good old NWA matches as much as I do new lucha stuff. All time favorite matches: 1. 6/9/95 All Japan Misawa/Kobashi vs. Taue/Kawada 2. Clash 6 Flair vs. Steamboat 3. El Dandy vs. El Satanico 12/14/90 All time favorite wrestlers: 1. Ric Flair 2. Mitsuharu Misawa 3. Vader

Great interview. Scott was very conversational throughout and I enjoyed his prospective. He seemed to have an excellent memory of his career and a geuunine love of wrestling. I also appreciate how in tune he was to his position in the company. I hate hearing interviews with commentators and other individuals where you feel like they believe they should have been pushed as the leader of the company. Perhaps his real life job let him get himself grounded. Great job Justin and Scott.

[1990-12-14-EMLL] El Dandy vs El Satanico (Hair vs Hair)
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in December 1990
I said on the podcast a couple of weeks ago that I have seen plenty of great lucha matches but have yet to find one I could emotionally connect to like American and Japanese matches. Even Azteca/Dandy was a mesmerizing clinic for me and not an intense journey through the match. That thought has changed with this match. The lucha version of Tully/Magnum with intense hatred and brawling that builds up for 30 minutes. The closing exchange with both guy pouring blood and trading near falls is something I won't ever forget. The ending with the payback spot was perfect. El Satanico has this look throughout the haircut that he can't believe they fell for this shit which is just the best revenge thing I have seen. The match of the year and one of the best matches I have ever seen. Period.- 16 replies

[1990-12-09-AJW] Aja Kong & Bison Kimura vs Akira Hokuto & Suzuka Minami
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in December 1990
I liked the clips they showed and wish it had been in full. Blood and pretty intense brawling. Hokuto's kicks also looked vicious. Overall a pretty disappointing 1990 in the world of joshi from what we saw.- 8 replies

I was so confused expecting Bull and seeing LCO strut down the aisle. Really quick clip with Toyota getting the win. Actin that was shown looked good. Bull vs. kyoko really should be in full because I liked what we saw. This is a matchup that seems to work well as evidenced by their 1994 match.

I know who Eddie Cantor is thanks to Boardwalk Empire. Watched some old clips and am not a fan. -
