  1. Really cool opening promo to start Raw with Foley that segueways through a bunch of programs for the present and the future. Having Foley as a face authority role just feels so refreshing after the two plus years of the heels running the show in a prominent manner. Foley announces that Jericho vs HHH is a LMS match. Taker/Kane come out and Foley sets up the main event of them teaming together to face HHH/Angle. HHH/Angle are on the Titan tron and HHH calls Angle a twerp whereas Angle says that he doesn’t think Steph thinks he is a twerp either. After that ends, here comes The Rock and he wants Benoit tonight. Shane McMahon’s faction comes out and Benoit does a good promo saying he will tap Rock out on Sunday and be the next champion. Shane is good as the hype man for the faction. Foley sets up a six man for these guys and the Acolytes teaming with Rock. Segment ends with a big brawl on the entranceway. A lot of star power here and one instance where I didn’t mind a long starting promo. The six man tag is short but action packed. Rock is clearly triggered by Benoit and goes after him aggressively. Bradshaw gives an excellent powerbomb to Edge in a unique move. Pier six breaks out and Benoit hits a unique chair shot on Rock that looked vicious. He gives one to Faroqq on the inside and Edge hits a DDT to steal the win. Shane and company hightailing it to the back is a good character move with JR telling you that shows how quickly a match can end. After the break, Rock is looking for Benoit backstage and Rock Bottoms him on top of a limo. I love this feud. *3/4
  2. A cool promo from Hulk with a lot of backstory and clips added in. However, after the clips he gets really heelish and cultish talking about how he is going to force Tunney to see things his way. The tonal shift was odd and the close up shot on an intense Hogan made the tone of the promo off from what they probably intended.
  3. A really newsworthy update with some big news in that Mountie has won the IC belt. We quickly move from that to the upcoming Rumble match and get a promo from Piper as he is the challenger. A good job of hotshotting one angle to the other and kudos to them for running with the win two belts in one night narrative.
  4. Oh man do I love this. This has that out of control brawl with no care whatsoever for the building that is endearing. After seeing hundreds of brawls to the back now, I used to relish them because of the unpredictability but too many times, the workers worked extra light to not damage anything structurally. These four gave no fucks about that. The gashes and scars on Jarrett's back put that over and Lawler's glass shot looks so believable with Spot only moving right at the nick of time. **** (8.1)
  5. He mentions in the E&C interview that he has 10 documented concussions.
  6. It is tough for me to listen to outside podcasts due to my PTBN "obligations". Even though the fast forward feature is definitely available and it becomes a true first world problem, it is easier for me to check out of an entire podcast if there is 50% or so that I know I am going to skip then zipping around using the fast forward feature.
  7. Still going 90 minutes on the top 10 huh?
  8. Pierroth continues to be the best garbage brawler that isn't in Japan in 2000. THis suffered from being essentially a hanicap match with Wagner running interference and Parka having to overcome the odds. Parka is strong like usual in a feud type match although he didn't seem to be wanting to do all of his super stuff. ***1/4 (6.3)
  9. Good match that was elevated by the clear strategy that was going to be utilized. Flynn relied on his kicks and he went for broke with them. Sano slowed him down and tried to ground him in order to not create any distance making him susceptible to those kicks. It was a simple narrative but executed really well and the match never let up until the culmination. ***3/4 (7.4)
  10. A great segment that I have memorized after seeing it so many times over the years. The drive through the window is what really makes this stand out. Shawn had to have that vicious edge to him to be taken seriously.
  11. Fun enough six man although it was mostly just a shine sequence. We are already presenting Larry as the loss post for Dangerous Alliance and I think that is continually one of the main reasons I may not have them quite as high as others on an overall faction list. It never seemed like the faces were in any trouble even with virtual rookies like Dustin in there. As much fun as it is to see this heel team pinball around and that isn't a bad story to tell in rare occasions, I do hope it doesn't become a reoccurring theme heading to Wrestlewar. **3/4
  12. An awesome brawl and a great babyface promo pair from Jarrett and Fuller. Jarrett was fine here but subdued. Fuller was amazing and intense capping off with the custom chair being shown.
  13. Strong Flair promo to me. He is amped up but gets across his motives heading into the Rumble and creates a lot of intrigue while still feeling like he is justified in his words.
  14. Larry was someone I pegged for a good amount of coverage in going through the Chikara lists. I know when my family went to an IWA-DS show in 2007, they came away thinking Larry was by far the best performer.
  15. Good spotfest type match. I enjoy seeing Pimpenla as she always has entertaining spots that add to the match along with some big highspots. Damian 666 is also someone from the WCW C reel that it was good to see again. A match that didn’t have much going on storyline wise but was an all action midcard crowd pleaser that was successful. *** (6.1)
  16. Yoshida matches up well with Aja because even though there is a huge size difference, her ability to look on and string together submissions make her still seem like a threat. Here she runs her submissions well for the first couple of minutes until Aja start striking away. From there, Yoshida is on the defensive even though she is still able to get some hope spots. Spinning backfist is still deadly. ***1/2 (6.8)
  17. I am becoming a pretty big Taira fan. He really attacks Usuda's leg throughout the match and it pays dividends with the submission finish. This was heavily mat oriented which is a good contrast to the strike exchange I saw Usuda have with Ikeda right before. He came in as the champion and seemed to have taken Taira lightly which was a huge mistake. ***1/4 (6.7)
  18. We get about 11 out of 16 minutes here and this is a huge bomb fest with some crackling kicks by both men. The headhunting that is relentless throughout the match provide an intense atmosphere and a lot of tension throughout the match. With this amount of firepower going after each other with the strikes, every kick could be a KO blow. Ikeda is able to finally gain an advantage and win with a choke. Really strong Bat Bat match. ***3/4 (7.5)
  19. Shocking finish and fun to watch. I appreciate AJPW doing this every once in a while between this and the January 1997 Akiyama/Taue match.
  20. This is Murahama's debut and that is pretty astounding. This didn't have the pace or intensity of his stuff a few months later, but as an intro to what he can bring to the table and the shoot style of the Osaka Pro matches overall, this was a good intro. Murahama is able to show how slowly but surely he was able to find openings and overwhelm Hoshikawa on his way to picking up the victory. *** (6.1 )
  21. I like matwork as much as the next person but this just never comes together. Perhaps a commentator could have helped move the action along but it just sat in the first gear with neither man really developing a strategy based on the action that was happening inside the ring. Lawler's pink assemble is also atrocious here and looks really cheesy and low rent. I thought going in this would be a nice look at a 1982 WWF Title defense against Lawler but instead, I think both guys did essentially the bare minimum to get by having a passable match. **1/2
  22. Hot stuff is forming a stable and Horowitz is tickled pink to be included. I liked this a good deal and agree with Charles that watching the King of Philly was the last thing I saw Eddie do going through one of these sets and this feels much more fresh even if it is a Memphis-esque ripoff.
  23. Thankful for some hateful AJPW action to get the year back on track. Fuchi is so good at emerging out of the corner of his little world a few times a year to have a breakout performance. Him paired with No Fear was perfect as they pushed a helpful pace. Burning as the faces also won't back down from a fight. Kobashi is making a strong play for WOTY considering how the rest of the year plays out. ***3/4
  24. Man, what a group of awful segments in a row. Tammy looks haggard for 26 here and runs down her career culminating in that saying she is back. You could tell she didn't believe that and there is a dead like quality behind the eyes throughout the segment. Awful.
  25. This is brutal too. Jarrett is at his sexist peak and we get a mud wrestling match on top. Chyna sending him in the pit at the end was a decent spot but not worth the tasteless set up.
