Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard
El-P replied to Lust Hogan's topic in Publications and Podcasts
In all honesty, maybe he does. Prichard is someone that is exactly *never* brought up when talking about creative minds. You hear about Heyman (and I'm an ECW fan, but Heyman is overrated in that respect), Russo (gasp), Cornette, the old-school guys (Watts, Dusty, Graham, Hart, Sullivan) but most of the WWF/E work is always credited to Vince & Patterson. Prichard seems to be a forgotten name, maybe because people think first and foremost about Brother Love. The one imitation that really amuses me is With My Baby Tonight with the voice of Jerry Jarrett. That's kinda killer in an annoying way. The bad part is that it puts that damn song from 20 years ago back in my head… "keeps spinning too slow blablabla" -
Not sure I would call it the best KOTM match, but it sure was a great one, redeeming the very disappointing mess of the previous year. It's also probably the very point where they should have pulled the trigger on Samoa Joe before it was too late. Angle didn't need the title (he's a guy who doesn't need a title to be at the top). He wasn't the worst choice (AJ Styles needed to be rebuilt as a top guy and Christian already was there for most of the year) but even Chris Harris would have been better as far as creating a new legit main event star. I'm not overly familiar with the chronology of the events to follow, but I do think this highlights the point where it was obvious TNA would not create any new star and would only trust WWE names at the top. It was Samoa Joe's to win there. The post-match was kinda idiotic since this whole feud was already done to death by this point, and Angle's attitude was confusing, as it has never been clear if this guy should be considered a heel or a babyface. (he even acknowledges it on the following iMPACT, where he makes it a clear heel turn, for that week at the very least) This match is also one of Christian's best performance.

Funny stuff. 10$Enzo. (well he does seem like a complete asshole on top on having zilch talent, which often go hand in hand actually)

Wow, that's terrible.

Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard

That made me give the show a second chance, and I have warmed up to Bruce. And yeah, the fascinating part of almost getting into Vince's head really is worth it. It feels like almost getting a closure as an old 90's WWF fan, to know what the fuck was going on behind the curtain of these shows I watched way back when. -
Nice attempt at humour. Sadly it feels like it's been written by those 20 or so genius in WWE headquarter. Ah, comedy… a whole lotta work indeed. (but yeah, complaining about complaining that did not even happened just exposes gimmick posters)

Yesh, this is annoying. Yeah, *this*.

Going through a bit of this famous Adams vs Austin feud, it was fun to watch Austin show his star potential so early, despite really rough kinda work inside the ring, but the true revelation was Jeanie Clark, who really wasn't allowed to shine the same way in WCW. Too bad, she was really one of the bitchiest valet I've seen during this short USWA stint, cutting good and fun promos and being all around a true natural heel character. And again, we owe her "Stone Cold", so hat's off to Jeanie Clark.

Damn, Jeanie Clark is a regular female Rick Rude, calling people "Dirty 9 to 5er", talking about her natural body and asking for the interviewer (looking clueless and like an idiot like he always does apparently) to stop looking at her boobs and if he also fantasize about her. Austin is a wee bit agressive here, but the "Get well tramp" was Stone Cold classic stuff.

Different times, when you could sit in chinlocks for five minutes while still getting shitload of heat just for anticipation of something to come, that could not even be that good. But yeah, what a post-match. Jeanie is glorious gloating about Toni and Chris getting injured. She's a real revelation to me after watching here be kinda just there in WCW.

Excellent promo by Austin. Does he look like a futur star or what ? Jeannie give the price of her dress, 5000$. That's sooo old-school. The handcuff deal was kinda kinky and fun. Austin being blipped for calling Toni a bitch was a Stone Cold foreshadowing. Another brutal post-match beating with yet another bump to the outside over the top rope. Jeannie looks like a queen here too (and it's impossible not to think about Debra, although Jeannie was better looking and a much more interesting performer to boot).

Toni implying Jeannie wants Chris back and calling her a motherfucker (basically) >>> Adams solid but regular 80's fired up babyface promo.

Austin throws some godawful looking punches here. Jeannie winking to the cam between each slaps to that poor jobber is priceless. She was absolutely great in her role. Post match angle was quite the chaotic mess again with tons of heat. Joey Styles would have lost his shit calling this...

I second, third or whatever how great Jeannie has been in her über-bitch role. She's got presence, she was good with the kendo-stick the previous week, she can cut a promo. Watching this, it's a head scratcher why WCW didn't use them better from the get-go, I don't think Jeannie cut one significant promo over there.

Superfly Steve Austin ! She's not the Sandman, but Jeannie sure how to handle a stick. Austin looked pleased. Hot angle. These two were gold together, you can see the confidence build with each week of TV.

Actually, the match was already over when Austin proceeds to beat the shit out of him some more, which is probably why he allows himself to drop him on the floor again and again. Lesson of the day : how to bump on hardwood floor. Good fired up promo from Tony. The "We were friends before sounds like a poorly thought out adlib (if that makes sense)".

A joke is always funnier when you explain it.

I agree and love the fact you used "independent contractors" here. Yes, and yes.

I must admit I don't follow your reasoning at all. So, what Paige is going through is tragic. So let's fire her on top of that. That surely would help a lot, as opposed to "Get her away from a possibly toxic boyfriend and focus her back on work as soon as possible"... Anyway. This is pure speculation anyway. No one knows what happens behind closed doors between these two. In airports, well, we kinda do. "The coke's in in her bags !" and shit... I just wish everyone well, like I said. (and really, who never had her/his partner throw shit at him in the street or slap him in public ? Ok, maybe my ex was borderline crazy, but still... I know the feeling...) EDIT : kinda odd coincidence, I'm rewatching the great documentary "Amy" tonight. Such a sad story...

Austin coming out to "Fame" is terrific. Him & Jeannie are a great heel blondie couple. The valet really do a terrific job in this feud. This is a lost art, sadly.

Hot segment, and not just because of the CATFIGHT !!! CATFIGHT !! CATFIGHT !! (yeah, hard to not hear Joey Styles when the two blondes are rolling around). Excellent promos from everyone involved (not familiar with Tony but she sure cut a fired up, believable one here), excellent brawl. Jeannie signaling "broken neck" to the cameras before slapping Adams was quite bitchy. Perfectly executed.

Ok, the teases were good but honestly, it does kinda feel like a rip-off to actually not use the wire at all. Solid stuff with Austin looking the best he had, and worked pretty smartly. But it's also not exactly satisfying to me. One of these two should have bled to make the gimmick really work. It was a good Barbed Wire Teasing" match though. Lacked the final chapter like Onita would deliver at the same time in Japan. Kinda crazy to think Steve Austin was involved with this kind of gimmick, and so early in his career to boot.

This is what pro-wrestling needs nowadays, short promos cut at ringside, with people speaking in their own voice. Yes, Jeannie is not super smooth, but she does come off as really bitchy. Cool promos by both of them.
