Yoshinobu Kanemaru vs. Tatsuhito Takaiwa Both these guys pretty much are vicious bastards. Takaiwa is your power junior worker from Z1, Kanemaru is NOAH's favourite dickhead champion. Lots of power spots from Takaiwa, some of them quite impressive. Heeling up back and forth, with some good stuff from Kanemaru. Takaiwa shows in the not sharpest guy around by wasting a great DVD outside, as he followed it with a figure-four instead of a dramatic pinfall attempt. Ends up with a bombfest, as most Takaiwa's matches do, with some übermacho one count kick outs, which I have no issue with, but maybe Takaiwa's latest pop up at the end is a bit problematic (although his two counters of Kanemaru's low-blow was quite neat). Still, a very good junior heel vs heel match, with impressive bombs being thrown. NOAH was the brand new thang, no doubt about it. Misawa had it right.

Mitsuharu Misawa, Naomichi Marufuji, Takuma Sano & Yoshinari Ogawa vs. Akitoshi Saito, Jun Akiyama, Kentaro Shiga & Yoshinobu Kanemaru (08.15) What the hell is this ? Some outdoor show in the Michinoku region during the summer, Akiyama's bastard faction against NOAH's trve soldiers. And it's the greatest match no one ever talked about. They even do some comedic bits during beatdowns, with poor Kanemaru being the recipient of a double dose of revengefull acrimony from Misawa's men. This goes long so everyone gets to shine, although both Shiga and Sano wait until the last act to do so. Stand outs are Ogawa, who's just so perfect in everything he does, Akiyama who's being a dick and Kanemaru, the asshole GHB (or something) junior champ. But really, everyone contributes and it's a mix of fun, heeling up and great comeback and payoff spots. Great fun match. NOAH was going in the right direction with this shit, with a dynamic clearly different from the AJPW they left behind.

Of course. Not judging. But I admit when I saw that picture on her Twitter than was linked to the annoncement of Snuka's death, I was like "I did not need to see this. I have no business in this hospital room with the family." But to me it goes beyond grief, it's about people's life in general. Because it's been just a few weeks ago that Nancy Argentino's family was denied justice and that it's a known fact that Snuka, at the very least, is responsible for letting that girl die. Yeah, tons of pro-wrestlers are (were ?) sleazebags. But very few are pretty sure responsible for the death of other human beings. Benoit is one. Snuka is another. So, a graphic would have been more than enough, really. The reaction live was indeed super awkward, which pretty much tells the story too.

Yeah, it's nice they paid tribute to a women murderer who played dumb to avoid a trial. Very nice indeed. What is human decency compared to the childhood memories of aging pro-wrestling fans ? I'm sure Nancy Argentino's family didn't take it as another painfull slap in the face. Fuck this. And honestly, fuck people and their dear "childhood memories".

Blame Eddie Guerrero & Dean Malenko for this. I have called the infamous sequence of rolling in and out of pinfall positions the Eddielenko for years now. They did it that way first. Of course you can go back to Flair doing his own slow-mo version that he did all the time which was ending up with a backslide, but the prototype for the years (decades) to come is right there, courtesy of working-in-a-vacuum Deano Machino and Eddie, who wasn't always that great. RVD and Jerry Lynn only followed in their footsteps and amped it up a notch. That being said, although it became part of Jerry Lynn's worst tendencies later (for the record, I think Lynn was an excellent worker at his best), you have to put the blame on RVD, as he showed way before working with Lynn that he was a fan of that kind of stuff, doing it with Sabu in 96 already. Lynn only managed to work his own way into it and get maybe RVD's best match ever by indulging his style. But you have to point at RVD first for pushing the Eddielenko sequence (although one could argue some Nitro cruiserweight involving Dean and the luchadors were also guilty of this way before RVD vs Lynn made it super fashionable).

Well, I just did and how glad am I ! First current joshi puroresu show I've watched since... 2002 (and probably first joshi match in ten years or so, really). I kinda FF through the first part since I'm not familiar with most of these girls (although, damnit, Bolshoi Kid, in 2016 ??? Nice to see Aja and Manami are still around too). Oz is 48 and looking good. Okay, so the match is complete smoke and mirrors and dog & poney show, with not much at first except some funny bullshit from the Academy (damn, Police. POLICE ? Still around ? One of the new girl is smoking hot too), then goes into the complete absurd with the entire roster hitting spots on Oz the on Dynamites (including... hugs and kisses !) which was quite funny. I didn't expect the girls going hardcore though. Damn, Oz, all 48 years old Oz (sporting a great bicolor Dynamite tribute outfit) litteraly killing herself taking a million backdrops and that sick table spot. Ok, she's officially the female Terry Funk in my book. Plus, and I'm not kidding, she sold way better at then end than either Omega or Okada did at that Dome show thingy. Damn, Oz. She even pulled out a fake finish that worked with the small package. I cringed at the footstomp. Damn, Oz. I'll be honest, I enjoyed this way more than the "greatest match ever". I give this 7 stars. Well. Then comes the retirement ceremony, which is all great and moving. Hell ! That's Carlos Amano ! Cool to see Devil in complete obasan mode and Akira, whom I would not have recognized, but the hair and the curvy body all indicates she probably is healthy again (right ?). So cool. Cuty doesn't look all that different from when she retired 18 years ago. Aja gives Kansai one last bump (great one too). Lots of cry and stuff. I always struck me that in this business of fakery, these joshi retirements were always so real, so far away from any kind of manufactured emotion we get elsewhere. And for obvious reasons. Green streamers and that's a wrap, 30 years and you call it a career. I'm really glad this thread gave me the urge to watch this. Great stuff that reminded me that I was right to be a super joshi puroresu fan when I was one. Total respect for these women.

I have too. It doesn't hold up at all. Nothing he did holds up actually. He was a total one move wonder. I have never seen any stuff from Snuka anywhere that was particulary good. He was lazy as shit too. Almost Muraco like but without the talent. Funny because Snuka vs Haku on Superstar in 1990 was probably one of the very first match that hooked me up on pro-wrestling (one of the very first competitive match I remember along with Santana vs Perfect for the IC title).

E8 and the Sexy Star stuff begins to look grim. A bad match with Johnny Mundo where both looked crappy and awkward. The finish was terrible. Really, Mundo bashing Sexy Star with brass knuckles, that was a very poor idea. Especially when earlier in the show, Ivelisse and creepy Marty Martinez had a solid match which never went into ridiculousness. But Marty is a good worker and Ivelisse is luch better than Star. So, not feeling where this is going. Likewise, that Texano vs Cage best out of 5 match is gaining no interest from me. Total indierriff spotfest that I couldn't care less about thus far. First match was ok, but now it's completely vain. Worst episode of the season. Although Vampiro getting inside the head of Puma (I guess to fuck him up in the end) is pretty interesting, as is the perspective of more matches against Mil (the previous week had a good one, although nowhere near that great final during S1).

He's the only guy I ever seen have a bad match with Ricky Steamboat (in All Japan, for reference). He was the lesser worker of his tag team with Brody.

Hell in the Cell II. The debut of "let's fall from high places" style of big PPV matches, which gave us the upcoming TLC matches (much more than the Shawn vs Razor matches actually) and all that kind of bullshit.
