Sullivan is still a fascinating mind. The "No excuse" T-shirt idea is glorious.
  2. Nevermind. (was gonna say Bryan vs Lesnar, but he doesn't qualify)
  3. It's a sad state of affair when the first two names that come up for a dream match are two 50 year old guys, one of which who retired ten years ago. I don't get why Austin's name is dropped each year 6 months before Mania. I don't get the feeling he would ever do one last match, and I'm pretty damn sure he really shouldn't.
  4. Taker vs Cena I guess. But it's too late. I can't see any other at this point.
  5. Off the top of my head : Halloween Havoc 96 Starrcade 96 Spring Stampede 97 Bash at the Beach 97 Great American Bash 97
  6. I also learned quite a bit of the US geography, although I never really figured out where parts unknown was.

Strongly disagree. He was an attraction from the get go. The crowds of children were scared shitless. The chokeslam. The walk on the ropes. The flying clothesline. The salute to the urn. The tombstone. The zombi sit-up. The pale look. It was unique and unheard of as a package. Of course it helped that Mark Callaway was amazing and found himself in this gimmick. But despite the shitty matches for a good 5 to 6 years, Taker was special very quickly.
  8. Ah ah ! Excellent (en français dans le texte). It's actually a French word. It seems that we all learn quite a bit of vocabulary. Well, I for one maintained and improved my English comprehension level when I was in college and not studying English anymore by watching Raw and Nitro in English. And since French announcer Guy Hauray was very eloquent, I learned a few words thanks to him too. I can still remember hearing "intrinsèque" for the very first time during a Haku squash in 1990. Not the kind of word a 14 years old kid hears every day.
  9. Sleazy-E in all its glory. Gotta love the "I'll get over it" bit. Liz still isn't happy to be with the nWo. I guess she wouldn't be until Savage would come back and joign them (which would make both of them kinda look like bitches in a way).
  10. One year before, Hulk Hogan was unbearable. And at this point, Hollywood Hogan is just great. He's basically playing bitch here like nobody's business. The Robin Hood story is classic pro-wrestling carny shit. Pretty hilarious.

I watched a bunch of old Kevin Sullivan stuff not so long ago, and despite what would pass from corny "satanic" gibberish today, the point of the whole thing was still basic like "I'm a sick bastard and I'm going to fuck you up Blackack Mulligan, you and your kids.". Simple stuff.

It's not like there was too much fabric to prevent her from walking either. But yeah. Lana's ass and legs are the selling points of the whole Rusev character, really.

The whole Bray's "message spreading as a virus" bit is totally idiotic to me. So, if Cena beats him in a wrestling match, Bray's "message" will not spread anymore ? And what the fuck is his "message" anyway ? They are clearly overreaching here, and this Cena feud is just bad.
  14. ARSION I would guess. But if stuff like AJPW and Jarrett's Memphis are splinter promotions, well, I have no idea.

Well, both are supposed to be southern psychopaths wearing hawaiian shirts. It's enough for me to compare the characters. As far as the Kevin Sullivan comparison, I guess you could make it, except Sullivan was speaking in goofy satanic gibberish in the early 80's in a territory and a time where it could get heat. And he had the SM look going on with the Fallen Angel, and used blood, of course. So yeah, I guess it's Kevin Sullivan with a budget, but also a clean and polished production, none of Sullivan's booking ideas (that Cena feud is terrible), the whole thing being marketed to be scary to kids under 12. So yeah, that's why it doesn't work at all for me.
  16. Well, DDP did do promos leading to this where he explicitely talked about managing Hall ad tagging with Nash, as well as him being a friend of Eric Bischoff. Can't be much more literal than this. Great angle, of course. Nash took a hellacious bump over the top rope to a table to the floor, swinging the table away with him for added effect. DDP leaves through the crowd and a star is born. In the Superdome no less. Damn, WCW had so much going for them at this point, it's amazing to think two years later they would be bleeding money and had pissed away their best new fresh talent.

None taken. But seriously, there was absolutely nothing creepy about it to me. It was all too polished and clean to be anything but "cute bullshit" to me. And that's the issue I have with the whole Bray Wyatt act (and modern WWE as a whole). Waylon Mercy was doing the Cape Fear gimmick ten times better and came off actually creepy. Probably because Danny Spivey without the gimmick already looked creepy as fuck, and his whole delivery as this character made it even worse.
  18. This is everything to love about Saturday Night : a random pairing (Regal and Psych, really ?), a fun match, a midcarder actually getting time to cut a strong promo and Dusty being a riot. Him and Schiavone are so much fun together, it's a shame we had to suffer through a couldn't-care-less Heenan on Nitro, although one could argue Dusty's antics were more suited to the B-show.
  19. I'm feeling the urge to use that quote from The Wrestler (you know, when he's having a drink with Marisa Tomei).
  20. Austin saying guys should not do backdrops on rats since it wouldn't hurt them, they wouldn't sell it and it would expose the business cracked me up big time. Austin can be downright hilarious.
  21. What a terrific segment. Interestingly, Liz still acts like she's reluctantly involved in all of this. This is where the nWo B-players served a purpose, some good cannon fodder for the Giant. Gotta love that the victim which gets the biggest reaction is Nick Patrick, who takes a nasty bump to boot. The whole mysterious Sting angle was still extremely efficient here, and the nWo guys are funny trying to convince themselves he's aligned with them. Hey, Vince actually serves a purpose too and is good in this segment, checking out the fallen Giant forever before daring to out a feet on him. Huuuuuuuge chokeslam. The visual of the lone Giant swinging the bat juxtaposed with Sting lurking is an awesome cliffhanger. Great great stuff.

  23. The same. But really I'd choose before 2001, way too much great stuff still in 96/97 & 98-99 (in Japan).
  24. Good cool heel promo. Nash was going for the straight G-style, which was a bit awkward. I mean, he was a 40 year old white cracker trying to emulate 2Pac.
  25. Arn was on Saturday Night against Chavo Jr. in 01/04/97 (of course it was most probably taped before the Nitro match). Edit : actually, Arn did work another match live on Nitro in 1997, against Rick Steiner on January 13. He was also featured on Satudray Night on 01/18 against the Barbarian in a fun little match ending with another Jarrett/Benoit angle. Edit : and yet another one : Arn & Steve McMicheal vs Eddie Guerrero & Jeff Jarrett on Nitro January 20.
