No, I get it. If this was just a Young Bucks/Cody show without any of the hype to draw a huge crowd, I wouldn't be going either. Does the possibility of other big names working do anything for you? Jericho? Any New Japan talent? Who's to say a GWE contender like Casas won't be booked? I mean if Casas is booked I'm getting to the venue at 10am and standing at the entrance to the arena so I can properly bow down to him as he walks by.

I don't want to act like I'm superior to these people or anything self-indulgent like that. Just will likely have very different tastes from everyone there. I have to go for history's sake though, this is interesting.

I feel like a PWO outing would be more appropriate for something like Negro Casas working an indy in California. Get some sunshine and see my GOAT. Somebody hook us up with the promoter so 20 of us can go backstage and bow down to him. Maybe hire a translator.

We don't talk enough about CMLL on here! It's the last real territory - beating Memphis by 20 years now. They run the same 3 cities every week. They've been running the same big building every week for 60 years. It's like I'm watching a 1979 MSG show except it's 2018. We've got a mascara con mascara headliner in Arena Mexico tonight. CMLL's second or third biggest show of the year. - Homenaje a Dos Leyandas. They're honoring Salvador Lutteroth and Mil Mascaras tonight. Say what you want about CMLL's current style, there's nothing in wrestling like a mask match at Arena Mexico, it's like a World Series at Fenway or Wrigley or something, you can't replicate that history. Yes if you watch too many Ultimo Guerrero main events its the same thing over and over again but there's a lot of fun creative stuff from the young guys on the cards too, From thecubsfan's VOW preview - "CMLL Homenaje a Dos Leyendas airs Friday at 9:30pm CT. (Mexico has not yet begun Daylights Savings Time.) The show is an iPPV on at https://www.internetv.tv/index.php?r...roduct_id=1402.. It costs 100 Mexican Pesos if you’re purchasing from a Mexican IP, and $10 USD if you’re elsewhere. The show will be available to watch on VOD, though it seemed to disappear from their library a few days after the last iPPV aired. Matches from this show will eventually air on Azteca USA’s Lucha Azteca show on April 1st.." Here's the lineup. HOMENAJE A DOS LEYENDAS: DON SALVADOR LUTTEROTH Y MIL MÁSCARAS LUCHA ESTELAR MÁSCARA CONTRA MÁSCARA ÁNGEL DE ORO vs EL CUATRERO LUCHA SEMIFINAL GRAN FINAL POR EL CAMPEONATO MUNDIAL DE PAREJAS VERSIÓN CMLL VOLADOR JR. Y EL VALIENTE vs EL TERRIBLE Y REY BUCANERO EVENTO ESPECIAL ATLANTIS, MATT TAVEN Y NIEBLA ROJA vs ÚLTIMO GUERRERO, EUFORIA Y GRAN GUERRERO TERCERA LUCHA ¡ SENSACIONAL ENCUENTRO DE DINASTÍAS ! RUSH, MÍSTICO Y DRAGON LEE vs MÁSCARA AÑO 2000, SANSÓN Y FORASTERO SEGUNDA LUCHA MARCELA, PRINCESA SUGEHIT Y KAHO KOBAYASHI vs DALYS, ZEUXIS Y SEDUCTORA PRIMERA LUCHA AUDAZ, FLYER Y STAR JR. vs TEMPLARIO, VIRUS Y DISTURBIO

This is 20 minutes from where I live and yeah I'll probably go, but I'm going to feel like an outsider.

Fantastic news, thanks. AJPW now is a bunch of fun, excited to support them.

It's also funny to watch Vince get caught off guard and try to hold back his laugh when Blassie or Albano say something funny. You can tell Vince LOVED those guys. Greatest heel of all time had to learn his trade somehow right?

I really hope they eventually do 81-83, I'm having too much fun. Yeah the TV show can be boring but I'm engaged because it's freaking Vince McMahon and Bruno Sammartino calling it, easily 2 of the top 10 most important people in the history of American wrestling. And the way Vince tries to fill time during the boring matches is an interesting look into his mind for me, the man fascinates me, one of the most interesting figures in the history of American entertainment really.

So I'm watching the 79 TV and then watching the Spectrum and MSG shows chronologically with them and having the time of my life. Just watched the June 79 Spectrum show, it was wild. Dibiase and Patterson had a great match. Strongbow-Valentine was like a slower version of a Memphis brawl with Strongbow using any weapon he could find at ringside to bloody Valentine, it was awesome. Then we had Backlund/Putski vs The Valiants - Backlund gets injured and taken to the back mid-match but returns for a wild finish. And at the finish a fan tries to hit the ring and makes it to the apron before 10 guys tackle him. I'm gaining new respect for the NY territory for sure. It's just so fun to be able to watch complete territorial TV and then the arena shows, we've never been able to do that before.

The more I see people talking about traveling in for this show, hotel packages selling out quickly - this should be an easy sellout. Things are that crazy right now. Then they have to deliver if they want to be able to do it again.

That same 7/14/79 show has an SD Jones-Pat Patterson match. Pat Patterson seems like he was such an amazing worker, and this was the end of his career. If you watch the other SD Jones matches from this TV, you appreciate all the tricks Patterson used to pull a fun match out of him. I bet he had so many classics in his career that we'll never get to see.

I loved that show. Big hot crowd. Not a bad match. A couple surprising angles to set up intriguing Mania matches. Great main event. This is a Mania season where it's all clicking, the opposite of two years ago.

That makes sense. It's just like, people talk about how you just couldn't compete with Vince's product when he got it on TV in your area, but they were still taping in Allentown or Poughkeepsie, it wasn't that amazing. Now once they made the big upgrades with Superstars and Challenge, yeah, they totally changed the game, that TV was beautiful and made everything else look minor league. But that's almost 3 years into the expansion. -
I wouldn't say to seek it out like you would seek out Memphis or Portland from this era but Dibiase-Valiant from 7/14/79 represents a lot of the fun of this product.

I want Velocity. ;-) Damn this company for producing so much content over the years! Seriously though, it's awesome that they've cut back so much on original programming that has no value and are just going heavy with the archives. We've been begging for this for 4 years. Keep it up Vince! I'm having so much fun watching the 79-80 TV and then watching the corresponding MSG and Spectrum shows, give me 81-83! It's also just smart for them financially.

Here's what I don't understand - how did Vince wipe out all the territories with a TV product that looked so mediocre until the Superstars/Challenge revamp of fall 86? People say he won because he had the New York media and the glitz and the glamour and big stars - I don't totally get it. Now, the TV presentation once Superstars and Challenge started, sure, that stuff would still look great today. -
Sounds like people are finally getting their damn Thunder so once we knock out Sunday Night Heat there won't be anything to bug them about except the important stuff like Florida.
-
Patterson was so awesome. Man I wish we had more footage of him. No wonder he's considered a genius backstage.
-
To watch the complete weekly TV and then be able to watch the complete Spectrum and MSG shows when available through whatever means - we've never really been able to fully experience life as a territory fan like this, right? This is really cool.
-
Yep, that is all true.
-
I'm still pretty sure that Dave's crazy passion for NJPW and certain indy guys is because they're working a style he's always loved if you go back and read Observers dating to the 80s. But part of me wonders if he hit a stage at life where he realizes his life for 35 years has been consumed so much with watching pro wrestling and he's somehow compensating. I don't know, just a thought that I've had.

Vince was great, the only issue I have with him is he needs to be paired with someone as he will go quiet for long periods of time. A lot of the time the person he's paired with is awful though. What cracks me up is in these days TV built to the houseshows, and so far WWWF TV was far more exciting than any of the MSG shows that have appeared so far. If you're talking about the akward silence on these Network All-Star shows, I think that's where localized promos were inserted for each market.

I've watched a bunch of Georgia lately and am working through this stuff. What if I suggested Vince was a better territorial announcer than Gordon Solie. Am I going to hell? Lance Russell smokes them both of course, entirely in his own class.
