Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard
Beast replied to Lust Hogan's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Not the first time and Conrad already said it's because Dave's issues from that time period are not up yet. -
That's what he opened himself up for when he gave out the 6. Now if he ever likes a match better than this 60-minute draw (likely Omega-Okada 3) it has to be another new step up. I wasn't negative on the 6 star rating at the time, but now it looks like it's going to get too silly.

Okada-Omega 60 minute match at Dominion has been given 6 1/4 stars by Meltzer.

Despite being promoted as consisting of matches "never before seen, new to home video", WrestlingDVDNetwork is speculating the MSG LOD/Warrior vs Demolition match will be on the set. I'm sure there are sources that have led them to believe that, but if true it is disappointing since not only was that on an aired MSG card (9/90), but it was already on a Coliseum release, SuperTape 3.

Cornette doesn't have a rep for destroying every company he touches like Vinny Ru does either. It's not just the bullshit with him, it's the bullshit plus the inability to admit (20 goddamn years later) that maybe some of his ideas were less than great, and the gross racism and misogyny that pervades everything he's involved in. Cornette as a booker: Failure in WCW in 1990, ran his own company out of business, was only successful in WWF (ironically) alongside Russo, completely killed ROH for the next 5+ years. Arguably, ROH's hype still hasn't recovered from Cornette's run, successful run in OVW on the backs of having 4 surefire superstar talents that barely spent much time with him before getting called up. I'd say Russo and Cornette are basically two sides of the same boisterous, annoying coin. Russo had nothing to do with WCW getting shuttered, TNA is still alive, and WWE is still alive. Yet Cornette's promotion couldn't last more than a few years. WTF? Ran his own company out of business? He ran his own territorial company for four years during the '90s down period well after the majority of territories died off. How do you condense years of solid booking into a shot at him for not lasting longer? He was part of the WCW booking committee in 1989 AND 1990. 1989 was killer. 1990 had Ole taking over. You can knock Cornette all you want (RoH run obviously was a big disappointment), but don't act like he and Russo are cut from the same cloth.

Greetings From Allentown podcast
Beast replied to Ricky Jackson's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Saw the new one pop up in the ITunes feed so I went back and listened to the first 2 eps. This is sooooo good. I wouldn't have thought a solo podcast could be this riveting, but Peter obviously knows his stuff (or at least does the necessary research to prepare each week). Love the variety and the randomness. I've been watching the episodes covered on YouTube before listening to each podcast and I can't wait to keep making my way through the archive. -
I enjoyed this, made the show sound entertaining. Probably how I saw WCW at the time when I first watched it as a kid. Great concept. Even a novice fan can appreciate the awesomeness of Arn Anderson.

See, what would be the point of that? Is the Wrestlefest '94 version of poor video quality? You can literally watch that anytime you want on Dailymotion or Youtube. The point is I would want to see it it in the highest quality possible instead of garbage ass Dailymotion streaming The fuck you mean what would be the point? Yeah, how weird I 'd want to see it in quality good enough for HD TVs. It's an Unseen Matches DVD. You've seen the match. It's on a Coliseum Video. It's on a modern DVD. But yeah, I'm the obtuse one.

So much potential. Is it possible that it will just be previously seen Coliseum matches? Or will they all be TV Taping dark main events?

The Good & The Bad: WWF 1992 Part One
Beast replied to ChosenOne's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Definitely one of the more memorable years based on how different it is from what came before. Memphis-type angles and title changes, no Hogan on top for most of the year, and some of the best PPV matches up to that point. -

Conrad has say he legit puts in 4-5 hours each week of research for each topic. I think his questions are solid and his followups show a general understanding of everything. I think he's a fantastic non-wrestler host and enjoy when he calls out obvious BS from Bruce. And he has great chemistry with Tony Schiavone. -

Wow, great concept. Love the lists and this should be a doozy. -
WCW Worldwide 2000: The Forgotten Show

Fun concept. Barbarian vs. Tracey Smothers in WCW? Blows my mind. -
Why does puro get so much love? Why does lucha get so dismissed?

Well he gave the Los Gringos Locos match at When Worlds Collide 5 stars and gave the Atlantis match 4.75 so I don't he was literally saying that it's the only 5 star match. Based on the question he was given "What MATCH do you consider 5 stars", I'd take it that the Atlantis match is his favorite. -
You mention Ware & Blair vs. Flair & Bear in the first post as a joke, but Ware vs. Flair happened in 1985 in a kick ass match. Unless the lack of "l" in Ware's name is enough to DQ it as a rhyme.

Not to fan the flames or anything, but holy crap at some of the pro-Trump stuff said above. Thanks for giving me a legit reason to ignore your posts and opinions from now on. Jeez. Like this is some sort of sporting event where "Rah Rah, my team won so we're the best". Anyway I think this thread is only asking for trouble. Comparing KellyAnne Conway to a wrestling heel manager? I thought managers were supposed to draw fans to the arena, not cause them to turn off their TV's and hate the world.

More good stuff. Also enjoying going back and reading some of your other columns like the feud and title run histories. Just an all-around fantastic resource of information.

He and Bryan also said that we would all LOVE what the Royal Rumble would set up for Wrestlemania. (I know it doesn't transfer in text, but I promise I'm just having fun with that. Maybe that and ****** are the two things so far this year that will follow him everywhere.) Tried asking him about this on twitter and he got pedantic and said he never used those exact words.... Dave....

Shawn openly admits that in the (really well done) WWE Rivalries special they did on Shawn vs. Bret, where the two of them are sitting there side by side, being interviewed by JR. Which is a must see, if for nothing else than to see how much Shawn has since moved on, and how much Bret really still hasn't. Looking at how the rest of their careers played out from Montreal on, I think it's easy to see why that might be the case. Shawn had to retire temporarily but got to come back, win the World title and have a great run in the twilight of his career up until retiring at a time of his choosing. Bret went to WCW, was badly misused, saw several family and friends in the business die, and got kicked in the head by Goldberg which effectively helped end his career. Also Shawn is the one who committed the act against Bret so it makes sense that Bret would be the one to have a harder time getting over it...

Very good Table For 3 with Slaughter, Duggan, & Volkoff uploaded now. All three come off well, and this is one case where all three actually had fairly major interactions with the other two during their career so it's intriguing to see them all together.

In general, the influx of NWA talent around 1989 (Garvin, Windham, Anderson, Blanchard) is full of missed opportunities. Brainbusters got a chance to work with every major face team, but neither did anything as a singles. Garvin was past his prime, but could still go. Windham was there on TV for like 6 months and only has footage against Santana and Horner. Also wish we got Savage vs. Perfect at some point. Could have happened late-1988 or early 1989 as face vs heel or late 1992 if Perfect didn't turn immediately upon his return.

Word from the Network staff was that it had to do with dealing with the marching band music which plays throughout the show.
