Loss
Talk about it here.
Loss
Just the finish of Goldust winning the IC title, and Kid doing a run-in pulling off some sort of awesome spinning kick from the top rope that was a little over Razor's head. I still love the whole original idea for the Goldust character.
Kronos
Just a sniglet of a match. Hall actually looks quite motivated here, in the few seconds we get. Funny how Vince keeps calling Marlena "that woman", and I can't decide if Dustin's tongue-touch with her is high five or gagworthy. I continue to like Goldust more by the day. I'm really curious to get to the Piper at Mania stuff because I recall hating it when first seeing XII a few years back.
El-P
The introduction of the complete Goldust package, with Marlena, which was a brillant idea. The fact that this creepy guy with ambiguous sexual behaviour had a female "director" by his side who smoked the cigar and was sexy as hell was just perfect. I remember liking the match a whole lot, and Goldust really went far into the unconfortable "I like when you hit me" deal. I wasn't a big fan of the Kid being the sole reason Goldust won, but I popped big time to see him get the belt. I was a big fan of Goldust. It's too bad they sterilized the character in 97 with that ridiculous and awful "Oh, I'm not gay nor bisexual, I'm actually a gread dad and a family man playing a role" interview. Jack_Briscoe_Is_My_Hero
I hated Goldust, but thought Marlena was HOT as a kid. Razor looked good, and I echo the awesomeness of the Kid.
Kevin Ridge
The big thing was Marlena being introduces to add to the Goldust character. Big affection being showed between the two. The Kid didn't connect correctly with the big spinning kick but his trailing leg did hit Razor in the head which Mr. Perfect picked up on. Razor was all about being in a title match at the Rumble as he was either wrestling for the WWF title against Bret or defending the I.C. title against various challengers. He never did compete in Rumble itself.
DR Ackermann
This is beside the point but the date is wrong. The 22 was a Monday. The Royal Rumble was on the 21st.
BruiserBrody
Match wasn't great but Dustin's sexual spots made for a unique viewing. The Kid's interference is ignored by Gorilla Monsoon an hour after he over turned HHH's win over Duke Drose for cheating.
PeteF3
The Kid's interference is ignored by Gorilla Monsoon an hour after he over turned HHH's win over Duke Drose for cheating. Yeah, that was absurd. I guess the #30 spot in the Rumble is way more important than the Intercontinental title. Just the closing stretch, but since Dustin is back to selling and bumping for Razor's comeback, that results in some good action. The complete Goldust image is pretty much in place now--the remixed music, the filtered screen entrance, and of course Marlena, who completely changed the dynamic of the character and who played her role great. soup23
Was a little disappointed in the finish of the match giving the brawling nature of the Raw segment the week before. Goldust entire act seems to be coming together nicely and Kidd vs. Razor is a good feud for Razor to lose the belt and readjust his intentions. Makai Club #1
It's pretty wild that when WWE signed the son of Dusty Rhodes, they gave him the Goldust gimmick. Just the idea of giving a famous wrestler's son a gimmick like that, it's odd. It'd be like giving Randy Orton the gimmick when he first joined. Now I love the Goldust gimmick. It got hate at the time due to connotations, sadly, but I dug the ambiguity of the gimmick, when it stayed that way, at least. The match ruled, too. Some excellent character work by Goldust that was blended into the match very well. Razor showed tremendous fire and aggression in his offence and held his own with Goldust technically. Goldust sold and bumped well. Great performances all round. The finish didn’t make Goldust look all that great as he needed interference to win. It did do a great job of allowing Razor to move on for the meanwhile. ***3/
