It begins! Scott Hall debuts on Nitro using his Razor Ramon voice and implying that he's there to start a war on behalf of the WWF. Where could this be going?

I love whenever they use that clip on a DVD it begins with Tony's line about The Mauler mauling Steve Doll.

 

God, I remembered marking out so huge after. I must have been 12 so I was a little smart to everything, but the mark mentality was still there. I really believed that there was a war going on even though one would have read in the Apter mags that Hall was headed to WCW with Nash not that far behind.

Interesting 1st segment that the live crowd really doesn't know or is in utter shock on how to react to it. Step 1 begins.

It was really done so well. I never realised he just walks to the back though...kind of odd given what he just said.

The Mauler vs Steve Doll? Mike Enos vs Steven Dunn apparently. I had to wiki both of them. But then it's interrupted by the man with no name and the invasion has begun.

There it is. The biggest angle of the 90's, the one which arguably kickstarted the new golden age begins. The execution was so great. For a few months, everything about the nWo angle was amazing and just perfectly done. Gotta love how they use WWF's petty video against them here, in a constructive way.

I love Tony acting like this is a shoot. Also, "we know who that is" is dropped for perhaps the first time, before TNA ran it into the ground. Hall brings up all the old Billionaire Ted terminology and promises to provide the war that WCW started. And so things will never be the same again.

In a lot of ways, the 1996 set begins with this. Powerful debut with everything done correctly and it feels weird to hear Tony on commentary as I think all of the Nitro clips we have gotten so far have had Bischoff.

Talk about an incongruity between the significance of the segment and its title on the DVD! Very well done production-wise. Hall is very in Razor character here and it definitely feels like they're selling the WWF invasion aspect of the angle.

Excellent start to the NWO angle!  The match was not great and I think everyone watching was actually relieved to see it stop.  Why did Hall not take out both wrestlers in the ring though?
