Vince McMahon interviews Goldust from his "den". Goldust quotes The Color Purple to start out, which is really funny. Someone should do a YouTube montage of all of Goldust's movie quotes. Goldust mentions that he gave Ahmed the breath of life. Goldust talks about how the taste of chocolate in one's mouth is exhilarating and starts suggestively eating a candy bar! Wild.

you know RAW wasn't *that* bad in 1996. There was some silly stufff going on in the undercard and Shawn was miscast as a happy go lucky babyface but there were signs of a more adult themed product that would come to fruition a year later

I prefer to call it an identity crisis. Wrestling was changing and they knew it, but they weren't sure how to respond initially, because last time this happened, they were the ones in the driver's seat initiating the changes. They were throwing a few things out there to see what would stick and getting rid of the things that didn't. More so than 1994-1995, 1996 is a transitional year for the WWF as they figure out a way forward that works. It got worse before it got better.

Looking back at these Raw's as a adult, I had no idea Goldust was so risque as he was. I knew he was kinda freaky and loved Hollywood but wow, I'm surprised how much they got away with.

My parents knew Goldust was my favourite around this time and I was 12...what were they thinking?

Makes you wonder how much of it was them and how much of it was Dustin. The character is an interesting continuation of the effeminate heel, plugged into a kind of 90's pop-culture sensibility of what they were trying to touch upon, on what was aiming to be a family-friendly product more or less during this time. "Identity crisis" is a good way to put it.

Vince's reaction to Goldust's CPR continues to be top form. You'd think Goldust had forcibly sodomized him. Goldust is in his "den," appearing to be completely naked except for his robe and a strategically placed IC title belt. Goldust regales us with the exhileration of tasting chocolate. This and the Piper vignette were examples of the character arguably crossing the line.

Holy shit, really ? Dustin was quite amazing. Such an awesome freak. The fact him and Mankind were the two best new characters on TV says a lot. When you think the third one would soon be Steve Austin, well, you get a pattern here. Yeah. Former WCW guys… Dumbass Bischoff.

Goldust is in his den painted in gold and covering his unmentionables. He quotes some movies but also has some words for Ahmed while Vince is still disgusted.

Goldust feels a step above everything else going on in the big two in terms of pushing the envelope. Has there ever been such a gap between one major act and everyone else in this sense? At this point you would think he'd be a major star for years to come. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen.

Funny with how much we know about Vince after 2022 that he was on TV scolding Goldust for creatively using mouth to mouth on another wrestler.  I do love how Goldust leans all the way into the character though.
