Before the match, Sid mockingly reads a letter from a fan wanting to understand why Sid turned his back on Hulk Hogan and threatened to destroy Brutus Beefcake. He makes quick work of the future WCW referee. Sid puts a "Call 9-1-1" necklace on him, Harvey puts a Hulkamania doorag on his head, then he gets clotheslined off a stretcher.

Actually, Sid gave Mickey a big boot off the stretcher but it didn't really matter. Not a big fan of Harvey as Sid's manager.

Why Sid got settle with Harvey Whippleman in the first place ?

Funny how Sid destroying jobbers in 1992 seemed fun, but Sid destroying jobbers in 1999 in WCW was annoying.

Did the Sid squash match from 1/25 Superstars not make it on the set?

 

That one really stood out for me considering how amazingly over Sid was as a face. It's one of the biggest WWF reactions of that era that I can remember.

I've said this before but the WWF fanbase was ready to accept Sid as the new #1 face and franchise player before they turned him heel. Hogan had been on top for six years and fans had grown tired of the schtick. Along came Sid who was similar to Hogan but younger, bigger and not balding. When they did the Rumble angle of the two shoving each other after the match the crowd clearly sided with Sid. It's fun to think about what might have been had they chosen to turn Hogan at that time instead.

I don't mind Harvey with Sid. Jimmy Hart already had a full stable, Heenan and Slick were phased out, and Tolos was gone. That leaves Fuji, Genius, or bringing in someone new.

 

This was a fun little squash to help build up Sid.

Mickey Jay was clearly not on the juice. He was clearly concerned about taking the bump off the stretcher.

Harvey does make for a good contrast against Sid's size, at least.

Not a fan of Wippleman. I don't think Sid needed him, he works fine as a guy who was felt betrayed by Hulk Hogan and is lashing out. The post match stuff felt like the stuff a debuting heel would do, not a guy about to battle Hogan in the main event of Wrestlemania.

The match wasn't much, but I loved Sid reading the letter from the kid. His crocodile tears were absolutely hilarious. I never thought he was capable of this kind of character work.

 

I really don't care for Bruno here either, but if that's who Sid wanted to manage him, good for them both. I remember the Wippleman character more for his feud with Howard Finkel than anything else, and he was too exaggeratedly Southern to be much good on the stick. Being paired with stiffs like Gigante didn't help much either. The doctor schtick is at least something different for the WWF, and I liked the "Call 911" necklace they put around Jay's neck and the Hulkamania doorag they put on his head.

 

Did Vince have to say "I hope justice is served"? Just when I'd gotten that stupid phrase out of my head.........

 

Curt's still saying as little as possible on commentary. I get the feeling this is a pity job due to his injury, and that would be fine except for the fact that's he's managing the World champion. Because of that alone, I would expect more insight, or at least heel schtick, from him.

Sid's reading of the letter was enough. It was really good and got the point across. Whippleman was completely unnecessary. The post-match attack seemed designed to make Sid look like a dick, which might be due to his former popularity. Regardless, it really doesn't tie into his purpose (getting back at Hogan for the very real favoritism he received) despite the attempt.
