Childs
More blood from this show. I'm not entirely up on 1990 NJ booking, so I don't know what turned these BFFs against one another. But Hamaguchi jumped Choshu in the aisle, and Choshu bled heavily before he ever reached the ring. They went for a really simple structure. Hamaguchi, as the underdog, poured on everything he could to capitalize on his ambush. But he couldn't put Choshu away and eventually, Choshu just obliterated him with lariats, seeming to work past a throwing in of the towel from Hamaguchi's corner. There was a greater factional angle at play, but again, I don't know the specifics. It was certainly a fun match, with the former partners going to war and bleeding a bunch. jdw
He came back teaming with the Blonde Outlaws mostly, and with Vader to a lesser degree. Don't recall anything specific with Choshu prior to this on TV, but I think his return match was one of those big tags with the Outlaws opposite Choshu & Co. Loss
Short, high-octane match with Hamaguchi taking the fight to Choshu pretty aggressively. Choshu juices pretty early on, with Hamaguchi eventually doing the same. Choshu shouts something that I wish I understood as he reverses an Irish whip into the guardrail on the floor, and between that and his amazing ring entrance, this match really makes the point of what a rare superstar this guy was. After taking a prolonged beating, Choshu rallies a big comeback and takes Hamaguchi out with a series of lariats. As Childs said, there is a factional element at play, but I'm hoping that will resonate more after the 10-man on 6/26. This was short, but they packed a lot into the time they were given. I really enjoyed this.
PeteF3
Hamaguchi takes the same opening gambit he used against Jumbo when he was similarly overmatched, jumping Choshu before the bell. He quickly bloodies Choshu outside before Riki screams something as he reverses Hamaguchi into the guardrails and the double juice is on. Hamaguchi runs through his whole arsenal, but YOU CAN'T HEADLOCK RIKI CHOSHU. The Outlaws seem to be awfully premature in their attempts to throw the towel in, and Choshu has none of it, dispatching Super Strong Machine as he tries to cover Hamaguchi up and pinning him after a third or fourth Riki Lariato, despite Hamaguchi's best attempts to Hulk Up his way through them. Really fun match and another great feisty performance from Animal. The Outlaws leave their mark on Choshu afterward.
soup23
Another good brawl from this show. This match in some ways reminded me of Fujiwara/Choshu 6/9/87 with the jumping in the aisle and overall short, intense feel of the match. Loved the double juice that both guys brought out. This might be a sneaky top 100 contender for me at years end.
Kevin Ridge
Animal attacks Choshu on the way to the ring. Riki is already bleeding. Big top rope superplex from Animal. He’s also been bloodied up. Lariat time. Animal’s cornermen seem to have enough as they try to throw the towel in for Animal. Ref ignores it. One guy even goes in the ring but Choshu gets rid of him. Riki will have the final say when this one over and hits another Lariat.
Cox
This was a fun, hate-filled sprint. I preferred this to the Liger match before.
garretta
I'm not up on New Japan booking either, but this felt like a grudge match, so I'm glad to find out that it was one. Was the throwing in of the towel an accident, or did someone just forget the finish? Choshu just went right on destroying everyone in sight, whatever it was. There have been too many good matches from Japan already this year for this to make my top three, but I enjoyed it a lot. Hopefully, we'll see more from these two. drew wardlaw
This was a pretty wild show between this match, the Liger match, and the main event. I really wish the whole show was available, as there's a Muto vs Hashimoto match that I'm interested in. It's a small tournament with semi-finals earlier on the card. anyway, this match is pretty good and it's hard to beat Choshu in a sprint. Animal jumping around off the apron was really good in helping the chaos of the match, and double blood can't hurt either. This works to enhance the previous match for me, and vice versa. dawho5
Animal is new to me, but he comes across really well here. He's clearly not at Choshu's level but doesn't care one bit. Great little sprint and I agree that Choshu is best when he doesn't need to recycle his 5 big spots over and over in longer matches.
