Loss
Before they were stars! It's Chris Candido & Osamu Nishimura against Rob Van Dam & Danny Davis. There's some pretty impressive athletic stuff in this. The RVD/Nishimura exchanges are really advanced and impressive. RVD pins Candido after a split-legged moonsault! Fun little match. RVD does a generic "I love the people" babyface promo. Embry is out to talk to him and tells him he needs a mean streak, and says he should join him and Pritchard. Bad move for RVD, as he tells him he wouldn't spit on him if he was on fire, which causes Embry to attack. Lawler quickly runs out and Embry bails yet again. Great all around. Childs
Great little gathering of future somebodies and also a fun three minutes of action. They did a fantastic job throughout this broadcast of making you want to see Lawler get his hands on Embry. And Embry was such a delicious scumbag, creating so much chaos without ever removing his hideous turquoise warm-up pants.
PeteF3
Zakowski looks so much like Terry Taylor here that it's hilarious. Nishimura is pushed as a Vietnamese kickboxing champion. Really fun sprint that's kind of indieriffic, but in a Memphis environment that really stands out in a good way. Zakowski goes to the interview set after getting the winning fall and Embry comes out to make an offer to join the Texas bunch. Zakowski declares that he wouldn't spit on Embry if he were on fire, and that earns another sneak attack. Lawler breaks it up before it can go too far and we get another fantastic chase sequence. ajtroma
I'm glad in the years since he retired, Danny Davis has been getting his due.
shoe
This was really great. It's funny cause it looked like all RVD knew was spots. Still this was neat, and tied into the main show angle.
Kevin Ridge
Didn’t recognize RVD and Nishimura at first. Fun to see all these guys back in 91. RVD with the split legged moonsault. Nice little match. Embry giving some advice to RVD to get a mean streak. RVD talks crap and then turns his back. Dumb move.
soup23
Didn't recognize Nishimura until reading about it here. Probably because my mind was blown at RVD Tommy Rogers. Cool little match and Dave Brown really got over the finish and moonsault. RVD gives a good Opie promo and has some words from Embry that should have popped the studio crowd more if they were paying attention. Lawler sucrries Embry off as the main theme of this episode. Rock_Of_Jericho
Wow, I remember watching this match when it aired and being impressed with Zakowski because of all the flip-floppy stuff he did. It never dawned on me that he and Rob Van Dam were the same person until now...
garretta
This is a nice little glimpse into the early careers of Van Dam and Candido. Neither is anything near what they turned into, but RVD not only shows great stuff in the ring, but talks back to Embry in a way few rookies would dare, which earns him a sneak attack. Lawler comes out to save, and now I know why Dave was so disgusted at Embry when he came back out later in the show. Nice foreshadowing by Michael in bringing up the Lawler/Embry stuff so it would be fresh in the fans' minds when Embry came out Apparently Prichard's still one of the Texas bunch, appearances to the contrary notwithstanding, but he's definitely getting the short shrift from Embry in every way possible. Something tells me he's not going to take that for too long.
dawho5
Young RVD should know better than to turn his back on Embry. Rookie mistake. Fun little tag match with good stuff from all 4.
