Punk is fucked. For all the claims from some that Rock v. Punk was a glorious finish and anyone who didn't like it was just whining, it seems evident to me that the last several months of booking, combined with the finish of that match, have put him in a position where there is really no one on the roster he can work a meaningful, compelling, storyline heavy match with at Mania. At least not one that is going to have any long term effect.

Punk went into that long title run as the new Jericho and he's come out of it basically as the new Jericho. A triple threat spot at Mania is probably the best that can be done, but I'm not sure that really helps him all that much other and it's a match I have no interest in.

Two things that are wildly outlandish but there could be Punk vs Brock with Heyman turning on Punk. I could also see Punk and Brock vs Dx or Triple H and either Vince or Shane

Punk/Brock is what I'd like to see.

Supposedly Brock re-upped with the WWE for another year so they have more flexibility as far as who they can match up against Brock but I don't think they see Punk as worthy enough challenger to Brock just yet... especially not at Wrestlemania.

Edit: In fact, the tag match mentioned gives them a better avenue getting to Punk/Brock (having Punk take the pinfall, Brock goes ballistic and destroys Punk post-match, Heyman is torn between the two but ultimately chooses the homicidal beast over Punk, sets up a Punk babyface chase of Brock going into Summerslam)

I don't think they would waste HHH and Lesnar in a tag match if they are working the show, any kind of big singles match is more likely to boost the buyrate.

I think they'll probably blowoff Punk/Ryback or just do a placeholder feud like Punk/Sheamus. Maybe Punk helps The Shield win tonight to set up a match with either of those two.

Show is free in the UK for those with cable so I'll be tuning in.

I don't think it has as much to do with the Rumble finish or Punk's booking as much as it is an indictment on the roster. Cena is #1, and now Punk is in this weird 1A place where he looks at home in the main event with Cena or Rock, but he still isn't a big enough star to bring anyone else up to that level. The idea of Punk vs anyone else on the full time roster - Sheamus, Orton, Jericho, Ryback, etc. - still sounds far too midcard for Mania, compared to what he's been doing the last few months. Because nobody else on the roster is a real main eventer. They're just...Smackdown main eventers. There is nobody they can feasibly put against Punk in that Mania semi-main spot except once-a-year guys who now don't seem to be available.

I like the end game of Brock vs Punk, but Mania is absurdly soon for that match and I too don't see the appeal of any kind of tag team match with them.

Punk will be midcard anyway at Mania - third or fourth match at best, so it isn't a problem is he is working Sheamus or whoever. His act at the top of the card is getting really stale, he needs some time in the pack to get fresh again.

Exactly. Punk is Jericho. After over a year as champ, his Mania payoff will either be an after thought in a Triple Threat, jobber fodder for Ryback, or the worst challenger Taker has had to the streak in ten years. He's the new Jericho.

Opening tag was decent enough.

WHT match first yet again, could it get anymore devalued? With all the bullshit they will waste time on tonight they could easily have had the tag open.

Sat with the show on the TV, Skype open, Twitter open, wrestling related chatroom open, forums loaded. Welcome to watching wrestling in 2013.

Sampling the new blueberry Red Bull to help me stay up too, along with a shit load of Hula Hoops and Haribo.

Could they be selling Del Rio as any more uncool? "Del Rio wants to be a champion for hard working, ordinary people." "Del Rio wants so slay the bully." "Del Rio hates people who pick on others." etc etc. This isn't 1986 and Dusty Rhodes. Kids these days don't want to slay the bully, they just want to join the bully.

It seems the only thing worse than heel Michael Cole is face Michael Cole.

Yeah I liked Rio/Show a whole bunch actually, although it meandered at times. Would need to rewatch it, but I enjoyed it a lot. Shame about the botch at the end because I thought it was a great ending otherwise. Maybe a bit goofy but keeping with the spirit of the whole del Rio face dynamic.
