Loss
Worked to protest how they were being used and I think they made their point. Great TV match. Rey and Juventud look like the best wrestlers in the world in this match, and both have some incredible highspots which were perfectly executed. Give Psicosis and La Parka credit for feeding the babyface offense so well, and credit to all these guys for working this in a way an American crowd could appreciate that was still true to who they were. Sadly, I'm guessing the people toward whom this was directed didn't get the message.
Kevin Ridge
I don't like the yellow for La Parka's tights. Rey was so on with his hurricaranas. Really, he's been great after some initial issues on his return from injury. The one off the ropes to the outside was so good looking. I've been enjoying the luchadores in WCW during the year. Exposer
I was shocked at how good this was. We got an FIP secton from Juvi, payback spots with the trip-up, dramatic near falls that were built to, and a spectacular finish. Plus, not a single spot was blown. They were definitely out to impress. I just wish they had performed like this on a consistent basis.
soup23
Cant ask for much more from a 7 minute spot fest match on Nitro. They did a ton of stereo and cooperative spots that were extremely intricate and fluid. Rey and Juvi pick up the duke with the 450 in a great spotfest. With the roster WCW had at this point, there was really no excuse for them not to have a 8-15 minute showcase match each week.
El-P
This is exactly how the luchadors should have been used every week. Hell, WCW could have created a tag team cruiserweight title at this point and use all the mexican guys in a positive way instead of making them do jobs on Saturday Night. Terrific Nitro match. And I loved yellow La Parka.
Superstar Sleeze
Rey Misterio Jr & Juventud Guerrera vs La Parka & Psicosis - Nitro 12/15/97 Gotta love Larry Z marking the fuck out for the 450 Splash, which is a personal favorite move of mine. These guys went balls to the wall for this match and never let up. They win the crowd and the announcers over. Psicosis and La Parka were such great heels. it is a shame they never got pushed as a tag team. La Parka telling a fan to suck it was awesome. La Parka and Psicosis went off early with Psicosis hitting a nasty Guillotine Legdrop and La Parka with a wicked powerbomb. Rare misfire in a great match was when Juvy was shot into his own corner during the FIP. Once Rey gets in, they go all out to impress everyone. The stereo somersault planchas were awesome. I love when La Parka and Psicosis are shown up like when they kick La Parka leg out causing him to dropkick Psicosis. Juvy throws Rey into a hurricarna onto La Parka. WOW! Psicosis pulls Rey out. La Parka with a wicked chop, but Rey pays them back by tripping up La Parka. Juvy counters a top rope slam in mid-air and Tony loses his fucking mind. La Parka gets caught dancing one too many times and damn Rey's huricanrana game was off the charts as he nails him with a springboard hurricanrana to the floor on La Parka. 450 SPLASH! WOW! If only all spotfests were this good! ***3/
PeteF3
Definitely one of the Nitro matches of the year. We're going 3 hours tonight so these guys get to fill some time, and holy shit do they make the most of this. Some hard-hitting bombs to go with the graceful high-flying and some cool saves and near-falls that you didn't always see in these WCW-ized lucha bouts. It's longer than a usual Nitro match, but not quite long enough to be as epic in scope as the high-end Michinoku Pro stuff, but the action we do get is very comparable. JKWebb
Yes, I love La Parka and Psicosis as heels against these two. La Parka had some great mannerisms. Rey looked fantastic on offense. Really good teamwork and chemistry within both teams. Juvy's top rope slam looked sick! The finish is off the charts. What a fun match. ***1/2 #462 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-500-451/2/
Tawren
This match was awesome. Such a fun match - Loss' point above about the 4 out to prove something is totally right. This is the kind of match you never see in modern NA wrestling, and when people look back on WCW, for all its faults, this is the kind of thing you remember fondly. Lots of great high spots, a crazy crowd totally into the match, and a great finish. My favourite part was a dual dive by Rey and Juvi, and a fan with a half-full beer screaming at La Parka. A great moment in time. ***1/
