Summerslam Live Thoughts

If WWE doesn't put Bryan over HHH and Orton, they really don't know shit. The two "non-WWE" guys that got the most heat tonight were Bryan and Punk, so if they aren't gonna realize what they have, they're digging their own grave.

And I understand it's logical booking at its finest, but if this doesn't end with Daniel Bryan winning the belt in the main event of WrestleMania 30, it doesn't mean shit long term. SummerSlam is the second biggest show of the year, and if you're gonna have a redemption angle, it needs for him to go 60 in the Rumble and pull out the Name Redacted run to win the belt.

I"m amused by people being upset at the finish as I actually think in many ways it's the best possible scenario for Bryan long term assuming that he feuds with Orton and not HHH. Also don't see anyway that was a slow building match. I really did enjoy the hell out of it, but it was a bomb throwing, video game affair if I've ever seen one. Great match within that style but it absolutely was within that style.

It kind of lost me when they were kicking each other and slapping each other, I will admit. But yeah, I seriously don't get people bitching about this. It was iconic. It was a moment. It'll also be pretty hard for them to screw it up, or let me put it this way. It'll be a lot harder for them to screw it up than a lot of other scenarios.

We could have easily just gotten another shitty Rey Mysterio type reign.

I thought the slapping sequence was the best part of the entire match because it played off the promo on Monday

Man, maybe I was just marking out but Cena vs Bryan was fucking epic (and pretty brutal as well) and I got completely lost in the match. So much so that, the finish combined with the confetti and the post match celebration that I started thinking that there wasn't going to be any shenanigans.

And then there were shenanigans.

Otherwise, Punk vs Brock was great too but not as good as the main. Dylan echoed my thoughts earlier when he said it was like a really good Attitude style match.

Did JBL just say "What a fucking clothesline?"

I think he said "friggin" but it was hard to tell.

Good match, but below Lesnar/Cena. Orton coming out with the title as a heel is the right decision since they probably needed a new heel run against Danielson and this was the most efficient way to get there. I could have done without Triple H being the sole cause of it but the direction is the right one.

So what happened?

Not watching show.

Daniel Bryan beat John Cena in the middle of the ring to win the WWE title. Cena leaves, DB celebrates, Orton interrupts. Orton fools everyone into thinking he is just showing up to play mind games with DB and then HHH hits DB with a pedigree. Orton cashes in and is the new WWE champion.

I was honestly thinking HHH was going to hit DB with the pedigree AS SOON as Cena left and then HHH would leave with no explanation until Monday Night.

Wow, Bryan beat Cena clean?! I'm not too big into Triple H being involved but seemed like he would with him being referee.

I still think the best thing to do is have Bryan screwed out of his rematch by some other heel, let Bryan fight him, let Punk chase Orton into Survivor Series and switch the belt back a few times, have Bryan beat HHH in December to get into the Rumble, win the Rumble and win at Mania. Basically, repeat 98 and Austin.

I didn't see the promo Monday (I did see the go home smackdown) so that might be it.

The end will turn a lot of people off, but this show rocked. The main, Punk/Brock and Del Rio/Christian were all very, very good and the other stuff was inoffensive (the Kane/Wyatt thing didn't bother me that much). Really good PPV. Hot crowd, and it actually had a really big show feel to it.

Wasn't there supposed to be a tag title match?

Trips will not wrestle Daniel Bryan....I just don't see it happening. They got to save his next match for Mania

No they don't. HHH isn't crippled like Undertaker. They can and will put him in a PPV match just to show where the power lies.

I don't disagree with your argument Will, but it's worth noting that HHH got his "I'm the Messiah, fuck the underlings" nut win Bryan took the fall off of his finisher, with Orton literally doing nothing

What is confusing me is that Vince is the one who thinks that Bryan is shit and shouldn't be a champion.

I find this hard to believe when Bryan just pinned Cena as cleanly as anyone has pinned him in about a thousand years.

Triple H possibly Dusty Rhodes-ing the whole thing, that could be an entirely separate issue.

I think he means in the storyline.

This felt like to me one of the better WWE shows ever. Loved the Big Three matches, and couldn't believe Cena/Bryan ended perfectly clean, and well perfectly period. I'll need to rewatch it but it felt like a very strong MOTYC.

Everything else delivered what I wanted it to. Mixed tag was a lot of fun, Sandow/Cody was hot and fast paced and quite well worked, and the opener, though it would be an absolute piece of shit match without fire surrounding it, was a decently fun spectacle including the post-match. Even the divas match was better than it could have been. I disagree that this creamed all the G1 shows but this was a great night for sure.

Sorry I'm very out of the loop on WWE TV and only sort of show up for the really big shows. I am easily confused.

Lets hope so but the Punk thing was such a "Know your place" match that I can see Bryan getting the same reinforcement. Also, when Punk beat Cena two years ago, it was HHH's buddy Nash who got to do the honors. I still see HHH-Bryan in the next couple of months.

You know, the WWE finally won me back after probably a decade of having no faith in them. The product wasn't perfect but it was at a point where I watched the shows on Hulu and enjoyed myself. I knew Orton was going to walk out the champion, whatever... but the HHH shit, come on...

Why does HHH have to get involved any time someone starts building some serious momentum in the company?

I think this killed the much lauded Day 4 of the G1, which, anyone will tell you, is the best show they had during the tourney.

If you take the top three matches of that card and put them side by side with the three top SummerSlam matches, SummerSlam comes out way ahead.

Agree with this and I liked that show a good bit.

Anyone else really love the fact that Bryan v. Cena had the ultimate in decisive finishes and Cena went down in the dead center of the ring to a single KO shot?

Just the single fact that the ending was what it was is one of the biggest wrestling surprises I can think of in a long time. Loved Bryan's face after the count too.

Who was the last guy to beat Cena 100% clean, which was what this truly was?

edit: other than rock
