Kevin Ridge
I think this killed the much lauded Day 4 of the G1, which, anyone will tell you, is the best show they had during the tourney. If you take the top three matches of that card and put them side by side with the three top SummerSlam matches, SummerSlam comes out way ahead. Agree with this and I liked that show a good bit. Anyone else really love the fact that Bryan v. Cena had the ultimate in decisive finishes and Cena went down in the dead center of the ring to a single KO shot? Cool. I'l have to check this one out. ButchReedMark
Who was the last guy to beat Cena 100% clean, which was what this truly was? Batista pre-heel turn a few years back? That's the last one that comes to mind.
Timbo Slice
KENTA was definitely in the building tonight, as was Eddy. That was Bryan as Misawa loading up the running elbow for the first time to knock out Hansen. The Rock was the last guy to beat Cena truly clean. Not sure that Punk beat him clean during his title run.
Marty
I thought Punk-Lesnar trumped Cena-Bryan as far as suspense and heat goes, and possibly with ring work too. Cena-Bryan felt a tad more predictable and earlier in the day, I had thought of the possibility of an Evolution reunion, so Orton winning the gold thanks to HHH wasn't exactly shocking to me. Christian-Del Rio was a really fun sprint. Rhodes-Sandow was fine with moments that showed how ex-friends fighting should be. Mixed tag was filler, same with the women's. Ring of Fire match being worst match of the year by Meltzer is hilarious, at worst it was goofy sports entertainment with the Wyatts getting decent heel heat. Preshow was okay. Good SSlam all around. WingedEagle
That finish was perfect. The money's in the chase and you've now got Bryan in the role of #1 babyface chasing the belt. A clean win closing the show would've been that indelible moment, but then what? For tonight, this is exactly where things should be. Don't know how much confidence I've got in this 3 or 6 months from now, but for tonight this was great. And that slapfest? Somebody love them some SUZUKI MINORU. hammerva
Yeah this angle is based on two things: how little will Triple H be involved in the Orton/Bryan feud and what do they do with Cena when he comes back. If Cena comes back takes over Bryan's spot in the feud with Orton that will definitely suck the fun out of it. If the whole 13 seconds thing with Sheamus at WM didn't happen I would probably be more pissed off. But the fact that he overcome that shitty booking to become what he is now gives me hope. Until Triple H fucks it up for everyone
Superstar Sleeze
Kane/Bray Wyatt sucked pretty hard and is the worst match I have watched this year. Cody/Damien packed a lot of shit in there. It was about as heated as they could get a undercard match like this. Christian/ADR got overshadowed by what followed them. Christian kept this match together with his selling and the way he built his offense. ADR is pretty spotty and tends to usually just throw stuff out at the end of his matches. They needed to breathe more between the spots. Punk/Lesnar - HOLY SHIT! I have been so happy with Brock's return. He is incredible in all his matches even if HHH did not always hold up his end. Unlike so many wrestlers, Brock knows exactly who he is and never strays. I know if they used him more it would lose its luster, but selfishly I wish we had more Lesnar. I think he could be one of the greatest wrestlers of this era if he wrestled more regularly. Not as good as Brock/Cena (but not much is), but definitely my WWE MOTY. Mixed Tag - Fun spotfest that I liked quite a bit. Cena/Bryan - Great match that built well. I would have a longer Bryan heat segment so that his comeback would have been super hot. The action was great and I thought Cena was really great in this. What a fuckin' clothesline. I need to watch it again as I was a bit burned out. The finish was fuckin awesome. After he thanked his Mom and Dad, I felt so bad just knowing what would happen. I predicted the Orton victory and my brother predicted the HHH pedigree. I thought the crowd acted more confused than pissed. I was expecting an nWo type reaction pelting the ring with shit. Damn, I wish WCW crowds were back! Definitely, put me in the camp where this is for the best. I am pretty excited for the upcoming TV as the Orton/Bryan TV matches were really good from earlier this year. Dylan Waco
I could see an argument for having the swerve come tomorrow on RAW, but aside from that I have zero problem with the actual finish of the show (excluding the existence of HHH)
Matt D
What in the promo from Monday led to the slapfest. I just figured it was some fighting spirit thing I didn't get.
Dylan Waco
What in the promo from Monday led to the slapfest. I just figured it was some fighting spirit thing I didn't get. Cena effectively said he didn't respect Bryan, albeit in a less than outright way. Bryan responded by saying that when he was in Japan he learned something that the wrestlers would do to one another to fire each other up for big matches. They would take the palm of their hand and slap the face of the other man as hard as they could. He said he would love to do it but he couldn't do it to Cena because he wasn't a wrestler. Cena slapped Bryan, who just laughed and refused to slap him back
Timbo Slice
What in the promo from Monday led to the slapfest. I just figured it was some fighting spirit thing I didn't get. Bryan talked about how in Japan people would get slapped to help pump them up and told Cena that he wanted to slap him but didn't feel he was worthy enough because he was an entertainer and not a wrestler. EDIT: What Dylan said.

Cena slapped Bryan, who just laughed and refused to slap him back Oh, so it was literally some sort of fighting spirit thing I didn't understand. That's kind of funny. I did like Cena selling the arm in the midst of it though. I think I'm just hotwired against "let's stop the match and stand here facing each other and take turns hitting each other" in my wrestling. But with that context, it absolutely works.
tim
I'm actually feeling pretty good toward Trips right now, kept his bullshit completely for the post match, didn't assert his presence in the match and didn't even draw out his entrance taking time away from the match which I was expecting. Death From Above
I really need to get someone to explain to me how not selling things 100% of the time = bad wrestling trope someday, being as anyone that has ever seen a real fight of any kind in their life should really know better. Wrestling is fiction and has its own set of rules that real fights do not. That'll be 5 cents.

There are times when no selling is fine or if nothing else is the lesser of two evils. 2. Anyone who has ever seen or been in a real fight knows it's nothing like pro wrestling at all on any level

Timbo Slice
There should be two different types of selling in matches like Brock/Punk and Bryan/Cena. Wrestling doesn't have a baseline of selling that must be hit. It just depends if the selling works in the style or not. The way Brock and Punk sold in their match was great. The way Bryan and Cena sold in their match was great. But they sold in two different ways because they were two different types of matches. That being said, Bryan winning the belt and then having Brock come out to be his first challenger would be insane and get him over killer. He could redo the Morishima No Holds Barred match at Extreme Rules.
s1rweeze
I just hope Shawn Michaels doesn't get involved. You mean you're not fired up for his B-movie acting and puppy dog faces? I'm afraid of this happening too, leading to Shawn/HHH round 999.
