Japan, 4PM East AustraliaFinal: A Block Winner vs. B Block Winner First day at Korakuen looks dope, same as the 1st night in Osaka, all from Block B of course.Really interested in what they draw for night 1 at Budokan. How much people can Tanahashi vs Okada keep drawing? It's the only real option they had in that block too.Night 2 at Budokan is very solid. Kenny vs Ibushi and Naito vs Sabre fighting for a spot in the finals. The more predictable outcome is Okada vs Ibushi with Okada winning, with Nato beating Kenny on night 1 of their block, securing a title shot for Sep. or Oct. Is Gedo really gonna do the Tana/Okada storyline again (this time for Naito/Okada) just 3 years after he originally booked it? We'll see.. Mad Dog
No Suzuki and Ishii in the same block makes me sad.
Childs
So many skippable cards with the A block.
World's Worst Man
Jay White has the best worker in the world on night 1, no excuses if he lays an egg there. I will be interested to see if he's improved or if it ends up being just a one-sided carry job.
superkix
So an Ishii/Suzuki final?
Jmare007
I'm bummed they didn't give Henare a shot.
Boss Rock
I'm bummed they didn't give Henare a shot. Him or Finlay would have been loads better than Page. And I was really hoping Tonga would get the Yujiro treatment after lousy showings in the last two tournaments, but alas.
Boss Rock
It's crazy how much better the B Block is than the A Block. They should have at least traded Ishii for Page or Makabe, ha. And it definitely looks like the finals will be Okada vs. Ibushi or Naito unless they really hammer home how devastated Okada is at losing the title and go with Tanahashi. Gutenberger
This will be my first G1. Could someone tell me how long the daily shows are? More like 2 or more like 3 hours in average? Any more things a newbie has to know?
gingears
3 hours, though there's a 10-15 minute intermission between the tag team matches and the tournament matches.
Mad Dog
Don't watch everything. Just pick and choose the matches you really want to see and anything you hear is good.
El-P
Yeah. I watched the entire G1 in 2016, months after the fact, and I burned myself the fuck out (despite a number of legit awesome matches).
superkix
Seems like this is the perfect year to cherry pick.
Mad Dog
They usually chop it up as well. I would watch the important matches and the matches that are good. Things like Elgin/White or Evil/Makabe you can just skip. Those guys are going to be mid-tier finishers at best and won't play into the tournament at all. Boss Rock
The B Block is definitely the one to pay attention to, but I agree that unless you're a major NJPW fan or completionist (which I happen to be, ha), you don't need to watch everything. A Block is absolutely the block you'll want to cherry pick.
Wahoos Leg
I've seen a couple of G1 previews postulating that Jay White makes the finals and that... just sounds awful. It's staggering how someone I enjoyed as a young lion and during his ROH run has become one of the most underwhelming wrestlers in the world to me. Gutenberger
Thanks for the advice. I'll keep it in mind as the tournament plays out,
superkix
I think the only A Block matches I'm really looking forward to are Suzuki's matches with Tanahashi, Okada, and maybe EVIL.

Boss Rock
It seems like almost every year there's one guy in the tournament who really steps up and breaks out. Last year it was Juice Robinson, hopefully someone like Page or White can do that this year.

I think he's been great this year, although I was a little underwhelmed by his match with Takahashi. Very excited to see him get a crack at Okada. Boss Rock
I'm still holding on to hope for Jay White because as bad as his run has been, he's still shown those flashes of promise when he was a Young Lion and in ROH. I think if he fails to deliver here you can throw him in the bin, but if he wrestles like he does against David Finlay, he may surprise us. soup23
Hangman is my pick to be the breakout for the tournament.
