Yea, Martel and Arn going 45 minutes gave the fans their money's worth.

WOW! Ellering with Harley! Cant wait to see where this goes.

Blackwell and Patera send a message to Harley but they better stay focused on Muraco and Sawyer.

Once again the loaded purse comes into play. Saito and Doll might have the upper hand on Reed right now but I know Reed will come back with a vengeance.

Arn is still a little young here so I'd imagine he learned a lot here working a Broadway with someone the caliber of Martel. Would have been a fun match for sure. The fans were given a real treat.

If you're going to hit a guy like Butch Reed with a purse, you better believe it best be loaded! Not that Mr. Saito needs to use a loaded purse to put a man down, but it made for a good visual!

Patera and Blackwell may be spreading themselves too thin if they start worrying about anything other than their big tag match with Muraco and Sawyer. If they know what's good for them they'll stay away from the legend that is Harley Race.

Patera and Blackwell should really leave Harley Race alone. Maybe this is all a double cross and Muraco is gonna get suckered, but if not.. Harley is gonna hurt those two!

Really digging the feud between Reed and the Saito gang. Good stuff.

The Anderson's barely escape with the titles! Looks they are going to need to make another example and show Martel who he is messing with!

Good stuff happening in Georgia!

Things are heating up between Patera/Blackwell and Harley Race. Add in Muraco and now we're heading into a tag team explosion!

Cool seeing the Devil's Duo up to their old tricks.

The Sammartino/Beefcake/Haystacks alliance is really gaining steam.

Another situation ready to explode is Reed/Saito. Love the build here as they haven't met one on one  yet.

Martel and Thornton give the Andersons a scare.

Harley after Patera & Blackwell could lead to some fun nights.  When I saw Harley, he was always that serious, stoic tweener but would love to see him as a true babyface on the side of good.

Miss. Doll has a big role really quickly and I am enjoying your use of her.  Not sure she needs the loaded purse as she could just knock someone out with her big right hand.  She is going to be a handful!

The Patriots team is a nice way to get a lot out of Daniels and Wright

1. Ted DiBiase and Don Muraco are ready for the Cage, and confirmation of Harley Race as a Second Referee

Ted DiBiase & Don Muraco defeats The Gladiators in 5:14 when DiBiase hits Gladiator #1 with a Powerslam

DiBiase: Over a month Gary, I’ve been waiting for my chance to get my hands on Blackwell and Patera for two months. I’ve been doing everything I need to be to prove that I’m worthy of this belt in my Shoulder right now. Proving that I am the best wrestler in the world. Taking on any and all challengers. But it’s time for me to be a selfish. This isn’t about this piece of gold, this is about me wanting to beat Jerry Blackwell and Ken Patera to a pulp! You two tainted my moment! You two took out Austin and Whatley! You’ve been getting away with too much for far too long! And you are going to pay at the Omni!

Schiavone: We also have received word from the top levels of Georgia Championship Wrestling, that due to a history of this feud leading to a dangerous situation for referees, Harley Race will be joining this match as a guest official. Your thoughts Ted

DiBiase: I understand the reasoning. I heard what happened in Macon from Muraco. But I do have one message to you Harley. Your an icon in this business, you’ve done everything! But I have one request: Don’t get involved. Me and Don don’t need the backup. If you have issues with those two? Wait your turn. I waited too long for this already.

2. Mr. Saito and Company get interrupted

Mr. Saito defeats Randy Jobbs in 1:38 after hitting a Saito Suplex, while Miss Doll reads out a statement on commentary.

Miss Doll: Mr Saito would like to note that at the Omni he as well as Mr. Hiro and Mr. Duk will send a firm message about there dominance of GCW. There is no finer talents in all the AWA. Mr. Reed, Brown, And Candy will learn first hand that..

Before Doll can finish her sentence, Butch Reed and The Ebony Express run out to the interview desk and the brawl is already on. Eventually they cut to commercial to restore order

3. Martel and Thornton get their title shot, and prepare for a war

Rick Martel and Les Thornton defeat The Mongol and Tojo Yamamoto in 9:16 when Martel made Mongol tap out to a Boston Crab

Martel: You know Arn and Ole Anderson sure like to talk a lot. And they sure like to try to manipulate everything they can to make sure nobody can stand against them. They took out a very nice young competitor in Ben Bassarab for no other reason because old man Ole realized he was a threat. Well there is no hiding now! Me and Les might make an odd pair, but we have one thing uniting us, and that’s the Andersons! And at the Omni, you better believe you aren’t gonna have any more answers, just two men ready to take your belts!

4. The Devils Duo wants Tim Horner Out of GCW.

The Devils Duo defeats Randy Lynn and Lee Gregory in 2:31

Vines: You know, Tim Horner, you keep not taking the hint, and we are sick of it! Us and you at the Omni! You pick some poor bastard, and we are gonna fight it out! And  the loser? They leave Georgia for good! Either you accept or we beat you down and kick you out of the state anyway!

Martel just doesn't learn! How many partners do the Anderson's have to cripple before he stops talking!

Interested to see who Tim Horner picks to take on Vines and Sword. Loser Leaves Town are big stakes for a mystery partner to get involved in!

The feud between Saito/Reed and their respective groups is heating up nicely. When they finally clash in the ring, it should be an all out war.

It's going to be very interesting to see what kind of decisions Harley Race makes inside that cage. One thing is for sure, they will benefit Harley Race. Excited to watch that one play out.

Love the format from the TV show.  It keeps you updated on all the current and new angles in a nice compact summary.

The card at the Omni was great.  Martel needs a top partner to help with the Andersons

Butch Reed was on fire with quick work of Tojo

We will need to keep an eye on Race as the second ref.  I know he is upset with Patera and Blackwell but Dibiase does have HIS title

Nice TV format. Very easy to follow.

Dibiase and Muraco are ready for Patera and Blackwell. Harley Race will be a very interesting factor.

Reed and Ebony Express vs. Baby Doll's stable is becoming one of the best feuds in the AWA.

Martel wants the Andersons bad.

Looking forward to finding out who Horner gets as a mystery partner to take on the Devil's Duo. A lot riding on that match.

Fun card in Marietta.

Lightfoot gets the pin on David. Momentum is on his side for their upcoming TV title match.

Martel better be on high alert as the Andersons put Thornton down.

Fun main event that ends with Harley chasing off Patera and Blackwell. The plot thickens.

Georgia Championship Wrestling Presents

The_Omni.JPG

AWA Wrestling at the Omni, in Atlanta Georgia, August 15th, 1984

The Patriots of Terry Daniels and James Wright vs. The Gladiators of Gladiator #1 and Gladiator #2

A solid competitive opener, as the Patriots have had an sizable part of the crowd start to get behind them. The Gladiators run has been up and down, but they are hoping a victory here could put them in the tag title scene. Sadly for them this wasn’t there night, as the Patriots score a solid victory here when Daniels got Gladiator #2 with a Sunset Flip

Winner via Pinfall in 7:06: The Patriots

*****

Brett Wayne Sawyer vs. Brutus Beefcake

Interesting match between 2 more recent additions to the Georgia roster. Sawyer is an established name on this roster, a former National Champion, were as Beefcake and his running buddies Sammartino and Haystacks seem to be on the up swing. Sawyer though exposes some holes in Beefcakes game here, scoring the duke with a Powerslam.

Winner via Pinfall in 6:31: Brett Wayne Sawyer

*****

Loser Leaves Town Tag Team Match

The Devil’s Duo of Doug Vines and Jeff Sword vs. Tim Horner and a Mystery Partner

This one has been building for a while, and the Duo seem dead set on finally moving Horner out of Georgia. Horner makes his way down, and is joined by fellow young talent Tom Prichard.

And this match was heated fast, with the Duo trying to make the match as Chaotic as possible very quickly. And they do finally gain an advantage on Pritchard after Tom went for a Splash of the top rope but came up empty, and proceeded to work over Prichard’s arm. Eventually though, Prichard would counter out and make 5he Tag to Horner, who has seemingly had enough of the Duo, using his technical skill to gain the upper hand. Horner would eventually apply a Rolling Cradle on Vines, with Sword held at bay by Prichard, to send the Devils Duo packing.

Winner via Pinfall in 11:36: Tim Horner and Tom Prichard

*****

AWA Light Heavyweight Title Match

Brad Armstrong (c) vs. Buck Zumhofe

Armstrong makes his way to the ring,  but Buck Zumhofe is strangely nowhere one on his attempt to regain the Light Heavyweight Title. Eventually cameras go to the ring entrance to find Arn and Ole Anderson pulling out a bloodied and beaten Zumhofe to the entrance, in no shape to do much of anything. They both make there way to the ring against Arn’s former Tag partner and enemy, and Brad jumps into the fight quickly. But Arm and Ole are notoriously vicious, and while Arn and Brad are fighting that Ole sends Brad head first into the ring post, bloodying Brad up. At that point Arn grabs a microphone.

Arn: I thought you would have learned your lesson already Brad! We ran you out of Georgia and just because you have a new title doesn’t mean you are welcome back! Georgia is Anderson territory, and no Armstrong’s are welcome, least of all you!

No Contest

*****

The Great Kokina vs. Giant Haystacks

A war between this two big men, as Kokina has been wanting this victory ever since Haystacks hurt his friend Sivi Afi. And this match wasn’t pretty, but it was wild, with both men fighting all over the floor for a lot of this match. Eventually, the brawl continues in the ring, were Kokina manages to hit a Thrust Kick that sends Haystacks falling out to the floor! Kokina waits for Haystacks to try to get in the ring, but Haystacks is unable to answer the count in time!

Winner via Count Out in 7:18: The Great Kokina

*****

AWA Superstation Title Match

David Sammartino (c) vs. Joe Lightfoot w/ Jules Strongbow

Lightfoot has scored multiple Pinfalls over the Champion recently, and with his bodyguard and new friend already having suffered defeat today he appears to be going it alone. And he is behind almost the entirety of this match. But eventually Beefcake makes his way to the ring, and jumps Strongbow on the floor, that distracts Lightfoot and the referee. This gives Sammartino time to grab a Steel Chain, and he immediately wraps it around Lightfoot throat, hiding the chain with a Sleeper hold. The ref turns to watch Lightfoot pass out, leading to Sammartino’s victory

Winner via Submission in 10:32: David Sammartino

*****

Six Man War

”Hacksaw” Butch Reed & “The Ebony Express” of Ray Candy and Leroy Brown vs. Mr. Saito, Hiro Saito, & Kim Duk w/Miss Doll

Before the match, Reeds team demands they check Miss Dolls purse, having had enough of her and her cheap shots. The ref notes there is nothing heavy in the bag and the match gets going.

A very competitive match here, with the Reed and Ebony Express team gaining control early before the Japanese contingent eventually gains control of Leroy Brown, and work him over. Reed eventually makes his way back to the ring off a hot tag,  and sends all the others scrambling, as things break down. Reed has Mr. Saito on the ropes, as the Express fought Hiro and Duk on the floor. Reed gets send into the ropes and Doll goes at him with her purse, but Reed sees it coming, and catches it. Reed throws the purse down, as the red admonishes Doll. In the meantime, Saito quickly grabs something from the purse, and throws what appears to be a white powder in Reeds face, that leaves Reed reeling. Saito wastes no time hitting a Saito Suplex, and it gets him a Pinfall victory over the National Champ.

Winners via Pinfall in 19:08: Mr. Saito, Hiro Saito, and Kim Duk

AWA Georgia Tag Team Title Match

Arn and Ole Anderson (c) vs. Rick Martel & ???

Arn and Ole seem more self assured then ever before, as they had heard the medical report: Les Thornton can’t go tonight, so that means Martel is likely going it alone. But Martel comes out with a smile on his face and takes the microphone

Martel: I bet you guys are proud of yourselves. Les Thornton cannot go tonight, after you jumped him. But I’ve just had a conversation with Mr Barnett and he said signed for a Georgia Tag Team Title Match, and we are gonna have one! And he gave me the right to pick any partner of my choosing tonight! And there is one man in the locker room dying to get his hands on you just as much as me! My partner tonight is Brad Armstrong!

Brad comes out with a bandage over his head, and Arn and Ole are arguing with the ref on if this allowed, the ref immediately rings the bell once Brad gets in, and this degrades into a brawl quickly, with Martel and Brad full of firey vengeance. Eventually though Brads exhaustion slows him down, as Arn manages to throw him into the ring post head first again, opening up his cut. This leads Armstrong to be worked over for a long stretch as the Andersons try to work the cut. Arn calls for the finish and is lifting Brad up for a Gordbuster, but Brad falls out the back and hits a Russian Leg Sweep! This leads to a hot tag to Martel who is absolutely on fire on Ole, sending him all over the ring. Ole and Arn eventually try to bail away from Martel, but Brad cuts them off, sending Arn into the ring post himself, busting him open! Ole is borderline by himself at this point. Eventually Brad hits Ole with a Russian Leg Sweep, with Martel hitting a Slingshot Splash to score the win as the crowd goes crazy!

Winners via Pinfall in 23:17 and NEW AWA Georgia Tag Team Champions: Rick Martel & Brad Armstrong

*****

Main Event: Steel Cage Match, with Special 2nd Referee Harley Race

AWA World Champion Ted DiBiase and “Magnificent” Don Muraco w/ Gary Hart vs. Ken Patera and Jerry Blackwell

High intensity here, as it’s DiBiase’s return to the building he won the World Title, and him and Muraco have a grudge. Harley Race is in the ring for this one as well, but he seems to be leaving most of the ref work to the main guy, seemingly not wanting to get in the way of the match. In the early going it’s Patera and Blackwell bumping all over the place for DiBiase and Muraco, but eventually Muraco gets thrown into the Cage by Patera that the tables turn, as Muraco takes a beating for an extended stretch, being bloodied up badly. Patera and Blackwell start taunting DiBiase extensively here, as Muraco is barely responsive. Eventually Harley seems to have had enough, and starts getting in Blackwell’s face during the match. This distraction gives Muraco just enough time to regroup in order to tag in DiBiase!

Ted comes in guns a blazing, sending Blackwell and Patera into the Cage multiple times, while Race is in the corner checking on Muraco. Eventually Ted ducks a Running Clothesline from Patera, who turns straight into a Powerslam! DiBiase surely would have picked up the win, except Blackwell splashes the referee before he can finish the count! This gets Race involved, as he once more gets into Blackwell’s face. DiBiase gets in and starts throwing punches at Blackwell, and has the big man reeling... until Harley turns him around and punches him square in the jaw!

The crowd is shocked as once more Race and Blackwell get nose to nose. But Blackwell eventually grins, and extends his hand to Harley, who shakes it much to the fans fury. Then they start beating down DiBiase, as Patera tees off on Muraco in the corner, Harley eventually throws what appears to be hand cuffs to Patera, who cuffs him to the cage itself. Then Harley holds up DiBiase for Patera to lock in the Full Nelson. Without even checking if Ted, who is barely conscious, submits, Harley immediately calls for the bell, ruling Ted has given up.

Winners via Submission in 17:12: Ken Patera and Jerry Blackwell

Even after the finish, the beating does not stop. As Patera holds on the Full Nelson, Harley Race pulls out a pair of Brass Knucks from his trunks, and then says something the mics can’t pick up, before punching him in the jaw. Some wrestlers are starting to try to get into the cage but Blackwell is refusing to let them in, as fans throw all sorts of stuff in the ring. Muraco is trying to get at the 3 now, but can’t get over far enough to get there hands on him. This night truely belongs to Race, Patera, and Blackwell.

Patriots pick up a nice win to open the show.

Brett Sawyer gets the win over Beefcake, and I can't think the David/Haystacks/Beefcake trio will be happy about that one!

Dr. Tom shows up to help Horner, and they send Sword and Vines packing! Be interesting to see if Prichard and Horner is a full time team after this, or just two promising youngsters.

Anderson's beating down Buck makes the heart happy. Them beating down Brad, not to much.

Kokina wins the battle of the bulk, and the trio is 0 for 2!

Sammartino saves the night and puts down Lightfoot. I bet he is gonna be irate at his partners....lackeys

Awesome work on the 6 man, Doll switching out the brick for the powder to get past the ref inspection is an awesome idea. The eventual Reed/Saito title match is gonna be great.

Well, I hate to see the Anderson's lose the belts. Especially to Rick Martel. But Brad coming back out and getting his revenge is pretty sweet!

and Harley Race has chosen his side. The Race/Blackwell/Patera trio in the course of 5 minutes becomes one of the most powerful forces in all of the AWA.

Dibiase is in a world of trouble.

Great Show!!

Love the revenge by Brad here.... he and Martel make a great team.

Reed is learning quickly that Miss. Doll has some cheaters in her stable but I bet he will be ready next time

Action packed night at the Omni!

Patriots rise in the rankings with a win over the Gladiators.

Sawyer gets a strong win over Beefcake.

Horner and mystery partner Prichard send the Devil's Duo packing. Horner and Prichard could make for an exciting young team.

Battle of the monsters! Kokina gets the c.o. victory but I have a feeling more is to come.

That sneaky David once again retains the TV title.

Oh man, Saito gets the pin on Reed. I cant wait for their inevitable one on one match! The build has been brilliant.

Crowd pleasing moment of the night as Martel gets Brad to fight the Andersons. Great match! Martel and Armstrong win the titles! I know the fans blew the roof off the Omni.

The good feeling comes to a halt as Harley shocks everyone and aligns himself with Patera and Blackwell! This trio will be a force in Georgia. Man they put a beating on Dibiase. Dibiase vs. Race will be money!
