sek69
I'm not sure where this would go, so this seems a safe place: Question to the Texas/WCCW peeps: Why was it such a horrible thing for Fritz to bring in Lance as a Von Erich cousin? I get that it was more than a little creepy for him to bring anyone in as a replacement for his dead sons, but that's how Fritz rolled. It seemed to make sense kayfabe wise, Fritz and Waldo were storyline brothers, if Fritz can have babyface hearttthrob sons despite being a mean ol' Nazi heel then why couldn't his "brother"? I always hear it mentioned that people watching TV knew he was a local guy named Ricky Vaughn and not a real Von Erich, but wouldn't people who went to school with Fritz's kids know they weren't really Von Erichs either? Bix
They might have known that Waldo's name was Wally Seiber from the angle where Gary Hart outed them and turned them face. It's probably the replacement thing tied into the lying: It's one thing for him to not be a real "Von Erich," it's another thing to bring him in after the deaths. KrisZ
Don't discount the Ricky Vaughn part as he was a pretty well known high school athlete in Dallas in the early 80's. The Lance gimmick was pretty over for a while but his in ring work was subpar mostly plus the fact that World Class started declining when he was getting pushed. S.L.L.
That could answer your question in and of itself. I don't discount the significance of the Ricky Vaughn thing, but I tend to think that that was compounded by the replacement thing, and the way he was booked in the long run puts it over the top. He was brought in right after Mike got sick, and was very, very clearly his replacement while he healed up (to the extent that he healed up, anyway). Once Mike came back, Lance was no longer necessary and got pushed into the background. He asks for a pay raise, gets turfed, and Fritz goes on the air and tells the fans he was lying to them the whole time and that Lance wasn't really a Von Erich. The fans already knew this, of course, but as Jack Pfeffer proved in the 40's, telling people you conned them even after they willingly went along with the con doesn't really make them feel psyched up to keep following you. Lance wasn't a great worker, and really not even a good one, but he was inoffensive most of the time, and is spite of everything, he was pretty over, and seemed like someone with potential for stardom. The "fake Von Erich" stigma killed that, and I tend to look at him as a victim as a result. I can't help but wonder how things would have gone for him if he had been brought in as a Von Erich friend instead of as a Von Erich. I'd think he'd have been better off as the better version of Brian Adias than as Mike Von Erich's understudy.
rovert
There is an amusing and interesting interview with Jerry Jarrett conducted by Kenny Bolin: http://whosslammingwho.podomatic.com/ It is annoyingly spilt into four parts comparing modern Wrestling to classic Memphis, the psychology of K-Mart windbreakers among other things. Hollinger.
Anyone have pictures of Savage under the hood as Mr. Madness? I don't recall ever seeing it on television (was he even working television at the time?) and don't remember ever seeing any evidence of it. rovert
Ben Miller doesnt look like what I thought a Ben Miller would look like. Him framing the buyrate prediction for UFC 116 as the big hook for the video really annoyed me for some reason.

rovert
He looks like he should be the lead singer of an indie rock darling band. He reminded me of Wade Kellter on the Ultimate Insider DVDs both the way he looks and how he fielded questions. I was just expecting someone from the Dixie Carter Youshoot. MikeCampbell
Has there been any sort of official confirmation that the WWE'e Elimination Chamber DVD is going to include the full 2005 version of the match? The initial material on the release simply listed the match as "HHH wins his third chamber in a row" but the new one lists the full match.
Isaacduke
Does anyone remember the Abdullah the Butcher WCW face turn in detail? I just ran across a Youtube video showing him hanging out with Norman the Lunatic and "Captain" Mike Rotunda, and I have absolutely NO recollection of this. Loss
The stuff I bolded below from Michael Benoit is new to me: Let me just make my small contribution to the list of things that Linda McMahon was responsible for as the CEO of WWE that would point to her lack of character and integrity. (1) Appeared on Good Morning America talking about my grandson’s retardation being the cause of June 2007 Tragedy. There is absolutely no documentation of Daniel having any mental disorder. (2) Having Dr Cyril Wecht call the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in an attempt to influence their investigation of the Benoit case. (3) Having a private investigator by the name of Clifford Cormany pose as my rep at the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office in an attempt to get information on the Benoit case back in July 2007. (4) Having their lawyer attempt to get our lawyer to believe that Nancy killed Daniel and then Chris killed Nancy, suggesting it would be in both our best interests. (5) When # 4 did not work, starting a rumor that Nancy and Chris were selling drugs out of their house. (6) Failure to pay the balance of Chris’s wages and royalties due from merchandise sales up to June 25/07 to his surviving children. Can she really call out someone questioning their character and integrity when her own lack of same is in question?

Isaacduke
When Kamala was brought into WCW, they renamed him the Mambo Giant. The WWF couldn't have owned the Kamala name, as he had used it for years previous. Why the name change? And why job him right from the start? Dan
Speaking of the TNA NY show...from the Torch corres.: When I got on the Subway to leave, I saw some guy wearing a black & white baseball jersey that had Benoit's picture on the front with the caption: "Father of the Year." kjh
Brock Lesnar’s UFC 116 victory caps off a remarkable resurrection of fortunes for his mouthpiece Paul Heyman.
