MikeCampbell
Yeah, it was Black Tiger vs. The Cobra. The match was actually included on The Best of the WWF Vol. 1 from CHV.
MikeCampbell
Dave is reporting that Kurt Angle filed for divorce from Karen. I swear, has nobody learned anything from Kevin Sullivan?
kjh
This revelation isn't all that surprising given that Kurt in his recent RF video shoot interview was supposedly kissing up to Vince, Shawn and Hunter in an effort to try and repair that burnt bridge, while Karen had always been adamant about never wanting Kurt to return to WWE. This probably isn't good news for Kurt's long term health, as who's going to babysit Kurt now and stop him from working hurt injured or doing insane stunts in the ring? floyd
If this isn't allowed I apologize: Just noticed PWT (Pro Wrestling Torrents) have raised their allowed user base by 1,000 slots. I don't know how long this will last but the sign-up page seems like it's working. Anyway if you want to check out PWT here it is: http://special.pwtorrents.net/signup.php There's also running a Top 100 matches poll over there if you want to check some matches out... Strummer
Question for Bix (or anyone with any knowledge) I read at TSM today that Meltzer made a cryptic comment about Stephanie and Hunter's marriage and how it's similar to Vince/Linda where Stephanie is allowed to "have fun" on the side and the marriage is just business. What was the deal with this? Did she really sleep with Rodimer? What did Dave say?
S.L.L.
From last night's ROH show.... 4.) GHC Junior Heavyweight Championship: Bryan Danielson defeats Katsuhiko Nakajima with the Cattle Mutilation. Crowd didn't buy Nakajimas finisher (German). I know this is usually Bix's job, but I like how a move that was a major contributor to one guy's brain getting so dinged up that he murdered his family, and another guy's brain getting so dinged up that...well...that he became Kurt Angle, is apparently not a convincing finishing maneuver to the smarkiest of all possible smark fans. Once the Rolling Germans became a commonplace move you saw on TV every week, who gives a crap about just one German suplex when you're used to seeing at least three in a row? Not to mention the insanity around 2001 when they ramped it up to doing a dozen or more of the damn things in every match.
Tim Cooke
ROH fans suck for a lot of reasons, but not buying the german suplex as a finisher isn't surprising, seeing as how it has been abused for the past 15 years.
Indikator
Alex Wright was the WCW tv champion with that finisher in 1997 and it was rather credible. Fast forward five years and you know why the German Suplex is not a reputable finisher anymore, sans the Takayama version

That's a pretty stupid statement. WWE conditioned fans that one German Suplex is not a believeable finisher. Guys have taken 10 of them in a row and been able to continue a match and even win it. S.L.L.
I know, I know, we've been conditioned not to take the German suplex seriously as a finisher for a long time now, but...you know...certain things have happened since then. It's so much that I'm surprised by it, just that it's another reason to shake your head in disappointment at wrestling fandom.
Phil Schneider
It was less that people didn't buy it, more that people didn't know that it was his finisher, so Danielson kicking out didn't mean anything. Shit I don't even remember Nakajima throwing a German suplex.

I don't know, when I saw Nakajima hit the German suplex last night, I didn't really think of Benoit murdering his family. I was just enjoying the match and the show. And to go along with what Phil said, I didn't know it was his finisher either.

A couple of things come to mind....maybe she really wanted kids, maybe that's how she thinks marriages are supposed to work (considering what she had as an example growing up that wouldn't surprise me). I mean, look at all the "Vince being Vince" stories over the years. If even a fraction of them were true then it's no wonder his daughter would think that having sex with everyone in the company is one of the perks of being in charge. Also there's a lot of circumstantial evidence out there to suggest that HHH might be playing for the home team. He's probably #2 after Vince in the "is he overcompensating for something?" sweepstakes.

tomk
So the other day I was joking with Schneider about an amusing article about Mickey Whipwreck’s School and Fed in Social Psychology Quarterly (or as I described it “the ASA journal with photo covers”) and realized I should find him a copy. The whole thing is available as a PDF online and thought other people might enjoy it. Really the best part is the footnotes and bibliography. The author makes interesting comparisons between wrestling and other areas where there is sociological literature available. It’s kind of awesome to think about the relationship between pro-wrestling and Koreans working in a nail salon. I really wished I had this when I was arguing with insaneclown or the HHH superfan about if wrestling was a sport or not. “Hmm while you do make a good point about the features it shares with sports, let me tell you about the features pro-wrestling shares with bill collectors. Pro-wrestling is as much bill collecting as it is a sport” http://www.asanet.org/galleries/default-fi...8SPQFeature.pdf

Well there's yet another internet rumor about Cena about to get wished well on his future endeavors until Stephanie "discovered his talents" and pushed him to the moon. I seem to recall our pal Scooter implying that in a few of his rants so I'm sure that will one day become Accepted Internet Fact.

Wasn't Cena only around for 3 months or so before he started his rap gimmick? I remember he was teaming with Billy Kidman around the time that he turned, but I wouldn't think that they'd be close to shit-canning him THAT soon. He looked competitive in his debut encounter with Angle, and went over Jericho on PPV. Ah, Scooter...

sek69
I don't know if they were going to release him, but he seemed destined for "creative has no ideas for you" until (as the story goes) Steph heard him rapping backstage and made it his gimmick. Also that Rodimer dude who she was seriously into pushing but he was so bad that even Vince's gaggle of yes-men couldn't sell that with a straight face. Considering some of the stiffs they let on TV, it's no wonder the "Steph must be banging him" rumors start.
tigerpride
Meltzer said they were close to future endeavoring him, but I think Jim Burnett helped save his job as well. tomk
The Meltzer story was that Steph saved Cena's job. Saw the rapping and something in him worth pushing and that Jim Barnett didn't understand the whole throwback jersey gimmick as it covered up Cena's chest.
