goodhelmet
Here is the card for tonight. Still on the fence on if I'm ordering the show. AEW World Championship: Chris Jericho vs. "Hangman" Page Kenny Omega vs. PAC Cody vs. Shawn Spears AAA Tag Team Championship (Ladder Match): Lucha Bros. Boss Rock
Should be a good show. Cody-Spears is the match I'm most looking forward to in order to see if Spears can deliver in this spot. Was never crazy about his WWE work but interested if he can turn things around like Mox did.
WingedEagle
This is very much a match show for me as I'm looking forward to Omega/Pac and Riho/Shida, while Cody/Spears could be good and should at worst be interesting as that's been the floor for everything Cody's touched here. The rest of the card isn't offensive but doesn't exactly get me excited. Hopefully they hit pause on this Ace Page idea as there's nothing about him at the moment that suggests he should be the face of the company, while Jericho's name and aura lead to a lot more possibilities to kick off TV. SirEdger
Can't watch tonight so I'm gonna have to catch up on various boards tonight to see what happened.
Ricky Jackson
Just watched the TNT special and I'm hyped. The overall presentation smokes WWE imo. It's like comparing the NFL to a poorly written comedy film about football. Getting together with friends to watch this on PPV. Should be really fun. Hoping we get bloodbath with Cody and Spears. El-P
I would be shocked if they put the title on Page, although it would be a bold move. With Fenix probably a lot less than 100%, PAC vs Omega should steal the show. Cody vs Spears as a grudge match could be very good, depending on what Spears brings to the table and what they do with the booking (who is gonna be with Cody). Janela vs Allen vs Havoc could be quite fun in a "who wants to die the most" (I guess Allen). Any joshi puroresu match on a major stage is cool. I can't wait to see who is gonna show up on the women's Battle Royal (you know who I'm waiting for).
sek69
Wasn't part of them getting the TNT deal based on having an established star like Jericho as champ at the start? Having a heel champ to build a new babyface star wouldn't be the worst way to kick off a new TV show.
goodhelmet
I am pretty sure it was just having specific names on board. Jericho and Ross were the 2 big ones. People shit on Ross but I don't think they get a TV deal without him. I also think they have one more big name in the bag (not named Moxley) that helped them secure the TV deal and who doesn't appear until tonight or on the debut show. That is just a gut feeling, not insider bullshit.

Ok, seriously, the whole "Only 40% of the roster has been revealed" bit from Cody kinda feels like a bit of bluffing, but it would made sense they have a few aces left on their sleeves for the TNT debut. I thought it went from very good at points (the Cody/Spears stuff and even though I don't buy him for the spot they have him at all, the Jericho/Page stuff was also very well done) to wanting to fast forward through some of it (the Bucks are never going to talk someone into a building and Kenny Omega is such an awful promo. His delivery and facial expressions are just the fucking worst. I'd rather listen to Seth Rollins nasally blather on for 15 minutes). I will say I think Brandi probably had the best promo on the entire show, even as the women were further relegated into a side show act. But I ended up deciding to get the show after that, even though I know there's going to be a lot of stuff that I've disliked from the first few shows. I know there's going to be at least two matches that would have been far better with half the time given to them. I know there's going to be 15 "This is awesome" chants that are happening at not-awesome times, because that's what the crowds do. I am hyped for Spears/Cody... there's a nice story going on there and Tully's really good as the bastard in Spears's ear.
sek69
AEW's in that place NXT is in with Takeovers where all their shows should be at least decent, with the possibility of being great if something catches fire.

Doesn't making a guy who tried and failed to win the IWGP title the champion make the promotion look kind of second-rate? At least if Page wins, he can claim kayfabe parity with Okada. 58 minutes ago, Blehschmidt said: What time does the pre-show start? Is it on You Tube? 7 PM on Youtube and BR Live. I'll be honest, my interest in this show declined precipitously after Moxley pulled out. The only match I have any interest in now is Cody/Spears. I expect Cody's streak of having the best match on the card to continue.

I doubt anyone cares about that at all, honestly. Jericho is the biggest mainstream name they have, he's the veteran heel that's gotta be chase by the AEW babyfaces, he's got everything to be the first champ. 1 minute ago, NintendoLogic said: At least if Page wins, he can claim kayfabe parity with Okada. Except by your logic of comparing with NJ, Page last year was basically a JTTS in the G1, so what does that make AEW look like. It's neither here nor there, AEW and NJ don't work together anyway... To the greater audience they are trying to nab for TNT, Jericho is a guy who could make lapsed fans stop and watch as opposed to Page getting a "who is that guy?" reaction. Stiva
If, like me, you couldn't find the Buy-In on AEW's Youtube page, it's streaming on TNTs
tallmike
I have to admit, it just absolutely drives me insane that the announcers are just billed as Excalibur and Goldenboy. It's not at ALL a knock on them as announcers, talent, what have you. Marc Letzmann and Alex Mendez would be more than fine. Or I could live, although it would bug me, if one of them had a goofy one name gimmick.. but BOTH? Ugh.

NintendoLogic
Between Spears christening himself The Chairman and Baker going right after Priestley, you have to give AEW credit for making lemons out of lemonade.

hammerva
The crowd was definitely into Jazz as well which is good to see I understand why they went with Nyla Rose but nobody thinks she is the top in that list of wrestlers when you have people like Mercedes Martinez, Jazz, Shazza McKenzie or Tenille Dashwood.
