SirEdger
In Québécois, this would sound a bit like "Ostie de crisse de calisse de tabarnak d'enfant de chienne."....which trusts me, this would incite an immediate brawl way more than that video. C.S.
Jim Cornette made an unbelievably disgusting comment about Justin Roberts. https://www.webisjericho.com/jim-cornette-makes-distasteful-comment-about-justin-roberts/ Jim's a trainwreck and liability, and unless the NWA cuts bait soon, he will be the reason they don't get a TV deal, monetized on YouTube, or whatever their endgame is. I actually agree with Jim and Last regarding Janela at least, but yeah, this entire "The 70s Memphis guys would totally kick the ass of the current pretend wrestlers" point is peak pro wrestling insecurity shown by so many old-timers. And as Meltzer pointed out, the exact criticisms levelled against AEW were also the criticisms used by many in the industry against Memphis wrestling, many of whom have gone on record. That includes stuff done by both Fargo and Lawler. Cornette's Drive-Thrus are where I prefer him the most these days, where he can just tell stories and talk about old wrestling stuff, cuz he is highly entertaining when he does that. SirEdger
At what point can Billy Corgan and Dave Lagana can just let Cornette say stuff like that on a weekly basis? At some point, they're gonna have to make a decision and accept the consequences of it, especially if holding onto Cornette as one of their employees cost them the viability of the promotion. El-P
If Corgan is smart, Corny won't be at the next taping. I mean, seriously, he's just losing his mind. 5 hours ago, MoS said: this entire "The 70s Memphis guys would totally kick the ass of the current pretend wrestlers" point is peak pro wrestling insecurity shown by so many old-timers. The style had always been derided for being a bunch of bullshit and gaga by workers who couldn't make it anywhere. And as fun as it was, there was some truth to that. Worst paying territory too. Corny is just being ridiculous.

C.S.
I'm not a huge fan of Joey Ryan's dick flip stupidity, but I like the character otherwise. Anyway, he has a great point here.
World's Worst Man
Joey Ryan sucks and Cornette is spot-on with a lot of his criticism towards Omega (stupid body language, stupid facials; bad acting, basically) but holy shit he is completely insane at this point. The vitriol he directs towards these guys is to such a degree that it would only be justified if they were actively trying to hurt him or his family, yet instead it's simply because he doesn't think they are good at pro-wrestling. Even if his behaviour is simply for entertainment value (which I don't think it completely is) it's embarrassing and at this point, disturbing. El-P
I do think Corny has been insane for a long time now, but some of us (well, I plaid guilty on this one) did not want to admit that because all of his rage was focused on Vince Russo, basically the antechrist of pro-wrestling. Still, when he said on one of the Vice documentary last year that he wish he would outlive Russo to piss on his grave (which he had said before in shoot-interviews where it was thought to be ah ah because it was in the bubble), I was like... wow, really ? On an actual documentary. I know he is working, but still, the amount of bile and hate he is spewing is just ridiculous. Dutch Mantell who worked with both he and Russo in TNA back in the 00's talked about how Corny's hatred was gonna eat him from the inside and that was stupid. I mean, who needs that amount of negativity in his life ? Yeah, he's toxic.

On an actual documentary. I know he is working, but still, the amount of bile and hate he is spewing is just ridiculous. Cornette doesn't just hate Russo because he dislikes Russo's "creative" abilities, he hates him because Russo went behind his back and got him fired...twice. Russo freely admits in his first book that he went behind Cornette's back and gave Vince McMahon an "either he goes or I do" ultimatum to get Cornette fired from the creative team in the WWF, so McMahon chose Russo, who then brought in Ed Fererra. (Which coincided with WWF creative going directly into the toilet, but that's another conversation.) Cornette ended up doing basically nothing in the WWF after that, until he proposed turning OVW into a developmental territory and moved back to Louisville. But the one thing that Russo and Cornette agree on is that Russo is responsible for Cornette being taken off the WWF creative team and basically running him out of Stanford. Years later, he puts aside his hatred of Russo and actually shakes his hand and calls a truce (which for Cornette is a minor miracle.) He takes a job with TNA as a producer, but he is also a creative consultant. After a while, Russo goes behind Cornette's back and...gets him fired. Jarrett told Cornette that pretty much from the moment Cornette came on board, Russo was campaigning against him behind his back to Dixie Carter. There were occasions that Russo literally lied to Dixie Carter about things Cornette had said and done, in an effort to get him fired. Dutch has confirmed this as well, but best of all somebody leaked the emails Russo was sending Dixie Carter about Cornette, so he has documented proof that not only did Russo get him fired again, but he also was working behind Jarrett's back to get him pushed out of TNA as well. So yeah, when it comes to Russo I don't much blame Cornette for hating him. I don't know how I'd react if somebody went behind my back and got me fired twice, telling lies about me to do it - but I can't sit here and honestly say I wouldn't hate that person. This is a guy who tried to get Cornette "cancelled" once before, to suddenly back off when Brian Last uncovered a bunch of tweets Ryan had made joking about hilarious topics such as paedophilia. Cornette might be a mental case and he might be saying some stupid shit, but Joey Fucking Ryan is the absolute last person to be throwing stones. Every time Cornette gets heat for something, Ryan crawls out from whatever rock his lives under to add his two cents. Usually followed by Austin Aries. At least Cornette has made a significant contribution to the Pro Wrestling business and isn't solely famous for his dick and being sponsored by Pornhub. Joey Ryan was a founder of PWG. As such, he's had a much bigger impact on pro-wrestling as you'd think. And he's by all accounts a good guy and an excellent worker who knows how to get over, no matter what you think of the dick flip. And honestly, after this latest homophobic insults toward Omega, well, I hope Corny gets booted the fuck out of NWA. At some point, you just draw the fucking line. I just did. I made excuses for Corny for way too long now.
sek69
Yeah but at this point the Penis Guy (TM Ken Shamrock) has the ability to take the moral high ground on a guy who constantly makes homophobic jokes towards people who don't pro wrestle in a way he likes. Yes Ryan has made stupid comments in the past but (as far as I know) he's knocked that shit off once it was clear that wasn't going to fly anymore rather than doubling down every time. Besides, it's not surprising that the people who Cornette always single out will come back to dunk on him when he says something stupid. .Not to mention what he said is 100% correct, all Cornette does now is foster an us vs them mentality which does no one any favors. sek69
Calling someone a pedo isn't a joke though. If he said Justin Roberts is a geek who's mom dresses him funny it would be a joke, that while still kind of mean, can be brushed off as a joke. Calling someone a pedo just for giggles, especially when you're someone like Cornette who has tons of fans who treat everything he says as the Word of God, can be borderline dangerous. You just don't say shit like that.

If someone gets over, as much as you might hate him, he is doing something correct. And I do indeed hate Joey Ryan and that dick flip bullshit. Not even going to respond to "ZOMG it's a joke this new generation is so sensitive!!!" because people have been saying that about the current/new generation since the time of Aristotle. You going "My generation needs to have a sense of humour" does not change the fact that it is a hackneyed, lame excuse and a complete cop-out against any kind of criticism. Perhaps all the cutting-edge comedians need to be a bit less sensitive about criticism of their work.

NintendoLogic
UFC isn't no-holds-barred combat, though. It's a sport with rules.
