You either job out the biggest returning star in years in his hometown or you have your hottest homegrown act lose to a WWE guy who hasn't wrestled in seven years. Or you do a fuck finish that pisses everyone off. You can make it so it looks like Punk is rusty but as a veteran, can still win by dodging going for some all or nothing move & getting out of the way. That way, Punk looks rusty but still "outsmarts" the young guy who goes for an all or nothing & basically beats himself. That's what I would do. That way Darby can say he beat himself & Punk can say he got lucky or whatever to have them both save face. Punk doesn't have to hit him with the Go 2 Sleep for a 1-2-3 clean in the middle. Just pin him after he misses some big dive or something. Quote
Timbo Slice Posted September 5, 2021 Report Posted September 5, 2021 There are a million ways to book the match, and I have all the confidence that they know how to make both guys shine. Quote
C.S. Posted September 5, 2021 Report Posted September 5, 2021 For anyone watching on Fite, does the Buy In roll right into the main show, or do you have to click out and back in? Quote
MoS Posted September 5, 2021 Report Posted September 5, 2021 One good thing about being back in India is that with their new deal, PPVs are available for free in HD on basic cable. They're not on a major channel so they're not getting paid the kind of big bucks WWE gets, but it's still much better than nothing Quote
strobogo Posted September 5, 2021 Report Posted September 5, 2021 Darby should win with a crucifix after Punk hits the GTS but takes a half a second to bask in a successful return and makes too deep of a cover Quote
MoS Posted September 5, 2021 Report Posted September 5, 2021 They are working this pre-show tag like a house show match, which isn't a bad choice tbh Quote
Coffey Posted September 5, 2021 Report Posted September 5, 2021 Some pretty impressive spots in the pre-show big tag. Maybe Luchasaurus shouldn't do the Tail Whip anymore though, as that's Aleister Black's finish now. Quote
MoS Posted September 5, 2021 Report Posted September 5, 2021 Butcher has top 3 best look in pro wrestling today Quote
Ricky Jackson Posted September 5, 2021 Report Posted September 5, 2021 Well, I couldn't resist Danielson, damn it. I'm All In, er, Out! Quote
MoS Posted September 5, 2021 Report Posted September 5, 2021 Rhodes family ad is a great time for me to take a couple of bong shots just in time for the PPV, thanks Cody Quote
Frankensteiner Posted September 5, 2021 Report Posted September 5, 2021 So as someone tuning into AEW for the first time (and not watching WWE for about 6 years), I'm afraid modern wrestling may not be for me. There was no pre-text of competition in that pre-show opener. It was all laughs and cute highspots. To the regular viewers, was that atypical of the style? Quote
Ricky Jackson Posted September 5, 2021 Report Posted September 5, 2021 Thank God only two commentators...or is this just for the pre show? Quote
Timbo Slice Posted September 5, 2021 Report Posted September 5, 2021 Main show should have Excalibur/Ross/Tony. Quote

I'd say the lower card matches (especially multiman tags) tend to look like what you just saw and the more important matches are worked more straight. Quote

There's definitely a lot of highspots and the Elite are very guilty of being too cute for their own good, but this was specifically a comedy match clearly, featuring a comedy wrestler and Matt Hardy who is good for nothing but comedy spots. Most AEW matches definitely don't go this far. Like I said, I thought this was worked like a fun houseshow spotfest more than a televised match. Quote

You're going to see a ton of spots, a lot of dives & not a lot of selling in most of the matches. It's very Indie style. The Young Bucks Vs. Lucha Bros. in the cage will be the worst about it most likely. Quote
MoS Posted September 6, 2021 Report Posted September 6, 2021 Bold choice to start with the main event Quote
MoS Posted September 6, 2021 Report Posted September 6, 2021 Immediately targeting the neck like he promised. I love Eddie Kingston Quote

C.S. Posted September 6, 2021 Report Posted September 6, 2021 Is this referee purposely slow and incompetent? Quote
Jmare007 Posted September 6, 2021 Report Posted September 6, 2021 Really good opener. Two professionals having a good ol pro wrestling match. Quote
C.S. Posted September 6, 2021 Report Posted September 6, 2021 Cool brawl. I love Kingston's unique selling style. Quote
Ricky Jackson Posted September 6, 2021 Report Posted September 6, 2021 Is this an old time heel ref angle? Kinda liked that finish Quote
