Rush is one of worthless scumbags who defended Cuatrero. He should be fired and blacklisted IMO. (Well, Konnan would gladly hire him.) That could be another reason why she was all "nope" to AEW.

BTW, it's now official!

Didn't expect that coming off the Forbidden door match and surprised to see it happen so suddenly with her vacating both the CMLL women's and women's tag titles, but good for her. A major win for WWE getting an absolutely excellent talent.  I hope she excels there

Well, the professional wrestling industry must have finally passed me by. I am completely out of the loop. I have no idea who Stephanie Vaquer is. Never seen her before, or heard of her before & certainly haven't seen her work.

I was under the impression that Mexican promotions didn't have contracts but booked on a per-appearance basis like in the old days. That would explain how guys like LA Park are able to come and go seemingly at the drop of a hat.

Some more potentially interesting news on the women's front: it was recently revealed that Jordynne Grace's TNA contract had been amended so that it expires January 2025 instead of August 2025. The 2025 Rumble is on February 1st.

She just had a a match with Mercedes Mone Banks at Forbidden Door and immediately won over the crowd to the point of forcing a Sasha heel turn. Very aggressive of WWE to swoop her up so fast.

I think Vaquer being WWE bound has as much to do with Cuatrero’s defenders being prominent on AEW TV and that she probably doesn’t want to be in that environment.

She won’t be in NXT for long. Absolute boss.

Rush has apparently been one of the most vocal defenders so I am not surprised she didn't want to work in the same company as him.

As far as CMLL, they do have contracts (mainly to keep their people away from AAA) but they usually will let someone out of a deal if they are signing a deal outside of Mexico. They tend to prefer doing business on the way out if someone is leaving but it's not a deal breaker if someone just wants to bounce.

NJPW on the other hand is not happy they were promoting a match for months only to have her leave a week before the show with practically zero notice. I would suspect CMLL having the match to fill the vacant title on a NJPW show was their attempt at a make-good for blowing up one of their matches.

I know this isn't the thread for this, but the narrative that Vaquer got so over that it "forced a Sasha heel turn" is inaccurate. The Mercedes Mone character has been a "tweener"-leaning-towards-heel for months. Her biggest feud has been with 100% babyface Willow Nightingale, who got a visual pin over Mone before getting screwed by Kris Statlander out of the TBS Title. Whether it's because her personality is that overbearing and egotistical in real life or not, every one of her appearances has involved some amount of her speaking condescendingly about the rest of the roster or delivering very "fake" sounding cliches about her love of the fans. She's calling herself the CEO (evocative of another major heel faction's moniker), which is basically the same thing she was doing as her original heel character, "The Boss of NXT."

There will always be a portion of the audience who will cheer her because, like Jericho or MJF, part of the "smart" wrestling audience loves being contrarian/ironic even when the wrestlers are trying to get heal heat. She's also, without question, the biggest star in the division and, despite lots of folks saying she's "just another wrestler," does actually have an aura to her that no other woman does in AEW. They've definitely pushed Mone further towards the heel side of things since Forbidden Door (and, yes, Vaquer's amazing work in that match helped), but they also now have Britt Baker back and Baker is very over as an "AEW Original" with the AEW audience. I can see why TK didn't want to necessarily push Mone as an outright heel until Baker came back or they had someone that could really measure up as Mone's foil.

The crowd completely turned on Mercedes halfway through the match. She was working face before that point in the match.

The crowd started shitting on Boston, Vaquer had nothing to do with that, regardless of how good she performed on that match.

Shitting on Boston because one of the members of the match was from Boston. Otherwise they would not have been shitting on Boston. Vaquer made a very positive impression with pretty much everyone in the crowd and who watched the show, and obviously enough for WWE to immediately swoop her up. Vaquer came off way more impressive than Mercedes in that match, and had she not, the crowd wouldn't have started shitting on Boston mid match.

Vaquer was undoubtedly impressive but I disagree with the bolded.

There was an obnoxious Celtics fan in the crowd (shocking, I know) cheering Sasha,  and the NYC area crowd did what they do when that happens. Stephanie absolutely opened a lot of eyes and got herself over, but the crowd turning on Sasha was an indirect result of one douche in the crowd.

Jacob Fatu is that guy. I wouldn't be surprised if when Roman returns, Fatu either joins Roman's side or replaces Solo.

Fatu is very much that guy. But it feels like Roman/Solo is being slow cooked for Mania so Jacob is going to have a while for his turn.
