GUNTHER with the big ol' racism promo. Holy shit.

I would give the benefit of the doubt that it wasn't intended to come off that way, but GUNTHER's whole WWE gimmick has been ubermensch-adjacent so who knows.

I mean, he's the heel and was always the heel. Racist characters have always been a thing in professional wrestling - JBL was almost cartoonishly so - and most people where irked not just by Triple H going blatantly racist on Booker, but by winning super damn clean.

GUNTHER's promo was more aimed at Priest's parents not giving him everything they could so he could prosper, but it still had some "YOU PEOPLE" moments. A bit more layered but still heavy stuff.

The thing is, I don't remember Priest ever being presented as any kind of street urchin. He's always been a vaguely vampiric goth Latin ladies' man who practices archery. Beyond that, the race-baiting heel is another aspect of wrestling the way it used to be that belongs on the ash heap of history. And WWE should be bending over backwards to avoid doing anything that even hints at being racially charged. There can only be so many innocent mistakes before they stop warranting the benefit of the doubt.

Don't even think they are trying to be subtle here, tho. It's not a concentration camp finding their way into Dom's promo package for a split second, it's the text itself. Maybe with the move to Netflix they are trying to see what they can get away with? I mean, one of their biggest series ever had a massive racist as one of their main antagonists and even then he got a redemption arc. Sort of.

Hogan bullshitting about Trump's assassination attempt. What could possibly go wrong.

I mean, there are already a ton of people who think it's a work. Once Hogan's version with a squad of snipers, the entire North Korean army, and Trump tearing every muscle in his back body slamming a 2000 plus pound Andre the Giant a mere 12 hours before he died starts making the rounds......

"The Immortal" Hulk Hogan was such a huge & instrumental part of not only my professional wrestling fandom but my childhood as a whole. Then, almost as if it were planned & lined-up purposefully, when I was a rebellious teenager years later, suddenly here is "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan playing the bad guy as the top dog in the coolest stable in wrestling during the next peak of the industry. THEN AFTER THAT we got the nostalgia Hulkster return run in WWE & his WrestleMania match with The Rock. Mainstream professional wrestling & WrestleMania as we know it was built off of his back.

The man entertained me so many different ways for so many different years & it's all for naught. Not just for the racial tirade that pretty much made him dead to me & was absolutely unforgivable & enough for anyone & everyone to completely write him off forever. Not just for the awful comments he said after his son killed someone in a car crash. Not because of his star dimming & him scraping the bottom-of-the-barrel & doing shit like Comedy Central Roast as the "hey, remember him?" joke appearance. Not for all the lies & finding out as I grew out of childhood about all the drugs & excess. It was that every time I heard anything about the man, outside of the wrestling ring, it was always some negative "hey, this guy is a total piece of shit" news. Hell, now even the stuff you read about his time IN the ring, you read about all the "it doesn't work for me, brother" politics & shit. The Donald Trump appearance isn't exactly shocking - two shit peas in a shit pod - but it's still another paper in the file of The Unfortunate Hulkster.

I'll always have Terry Funk.

I really enjoyed the Carmelo Hayes vs Andrade match on Smackdown.  At times they made it feel like they were really struggling to beat each other. I'm not sure if that was due to great psychology and selling or due to mistiming and botches but I enjoyed the end product more than the typical Smackdown match.

Today's most relevant news in the US has been that Lashley's contract is expiring soon and he's probably not renewing it. At least he got to be the coolest mofo he could've been for a while. Was a good champ, but they still could have done more with him.

Yea, for whatever reason, they just really never got behind the guy even when, to my ears, he was getting consistently strong reactions and had an "aura."

I've seen the term "microwavable" used to describe certain guys that you can reheat anytime and they'll still deliver - Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Bobby Lashley, Sheamus, even Braun Strowman pre-injuries - but of all these guys, I still think Lashley had the most marketable, most dependable ability to be a top, top guy in terms of credibility. Legit athletic background and MMA experience. Undeniable main event "look." Is older than John Cena but looks at least 4-5 years younger. Dependable in-ring work. As far as I know, drama free and well-liked backstage.

I'm not against him popping back up in TNA or going to AEW, but wherever he lands, he needs to be treated like an immediate big deal and plugged right into the top spot. To not use this guy in that fashion is just silly when the top guys in these companies are generally like 5'8 and 225 pounds. Lashley is a beast.

Triple H had the Street Profits and him showing up in honestly the most elegant fits ever and thought the crowds would boo three cool badasses. Maybe they can finally pull the trigger on Dawks (remember when he flattened Braun like nothing? that was awesome) and Tez solo runs now? I dunno.
