What a special, special place TNAMecca is (that's actually one awful message board I don't sometimes pop into, luckily there is a "Stupid Wrestling Fan Opinions" topic on SomethingAwful that usually highlights the worst of the Mecca)

Initially I was super excited to see a Duggan/Doc team up but then I realized if Bundy was there it had to be in 1983 before Doc became bad ass UWF Doc. I'm sure I'll like watching it when I see it but man...that match in 1986 would have been fucking amazing.

This isn't Knoxville. The TV is taped at Dothan and this feed is the Birmingham feed so it hypes the matches for Monday night at the Boutwell Auditorium. At one point Ron Fuller was running two different areas and had a "Northern and Southern" division (although not ever really acknowledged on the air) where they would run Knoxville and some other towns in one loop and the Alabama (and Pensacola, FL) towns like Birmingham, Dothan, Montgomery, etc were the Southern division. They were treated as totally separate territories although they had the same owner and a lot of the talent cycled through both areas. I'm almost positive they ran the same cards in all the towns especially since everyone in the promotion was usually involved in their own feud so you couldn't shuffle the card much and not have it be really different from what was being built up on TV. After Garvin/Roop/Orton left the Knoxville part of Southeastern in 1979 they started their own promotion called All-Star Wrestling (that eventually kind of merged into ICW) and the promotional war pretty much killed off Knoxville and so Ron Fuller sold it off and just retreated back to the Alabama portion. It bounced around different owners like Jim Barnett (as sort of a sattellite promotion of Georgia Championship) and then Flair & Blackjack Mulligan bought it from him and then it just was dead for a few years until the Alabama end started going way down and Ron Fuller went back and started running in Knoxville again and then when David Woods bought Continental from him, Fuller kept the Knoxville end and started up a short lived territory called USA Championship before also selling that territory to David Woods also.

Embry eventually became the booker but I think he given the book because he had gotten really over. I could be wrong on that though.
-
He was a good promo and sold himself as a man of the people who would fight for them and maybe he'd get his ass kicked but if he had the crowd behind him he'd still win. It worked. He was pushed as a top guy because he got over and he drew.

I'm really glad I didn't bother to read the article after reading what they wrote about Billy Graham. "Wrestlers of the 60’s and 70’s were a bland lot with nothing really to separate any of them in terms of style" what a fucking ridiculous statement that is. And Stan Hansen was a well known reveler outside of the ring? I thought he was the one who has been quoted by numerous people as telling young guys that "nothing good is going to happen to you inside of a bar."
-
I would struggle to take a top 100 list seriously that had Edge on it so a top 35 with his name listed is just not going to make me pay much attention. And Billy Graham kind of sucks and no way should he be on a top 35. But I guess I could see more of an argument for Graham as an influence and a character than Edge even though Edge's best matches are better.

Southwest Championship Wrestling 1983 - The continuation

Southwest Championship Wrestling @ San Antonio, TX - The HemisFair Arena 12/4/83 Ron Sexton & Pat Rose vs. Larry Hamilton & Steve Pardee - Steve Pardee started the match against Ron Sexton and the two men shook hands after the bell. They locked up and Pardee got Sexton in a headlock and took him to the mat. Sexton worked to counter into a headscissors and after Pardee fought it off a few times Sexton was finally able to transition into the headscissors. Pardee worked to get himself out of the headscissors and finally popped out and the two men scrambled up to their feet and locked up again. Pardee arm dragged Sexton over and then started working on the arm with an arm bar. Sexton eventually pushed his way into the ropes and got a clean break and both men broke off to tag out to their partners. Hamilton came in and offered a handshake which Pat Rose accepted and they locked up with Hamilton quickly going behind Rose and taking him down to the mat but Rose sat up and countered out and quickly got back to his feet. They locked up again and this time Rose blocked the go behind with an elbow and grabbed Hamilton's head and took him down with a headlock takeover. Hamilton countered the headlock into a headscissors and Rose eventually rolled over onto his stomach and popped out and spun over Hamilton and put him into a front facelock. Hamilton pushed himself into the ropes for the break and Rose gave him a clean break as the ring announcer announced 10 minutes gone in the match with 5 minutes remaining. Hamilton and Rose both tagged out and Sexton & Pardee came in against each other again. Pardee and Sexton locked up and Sexton used the hair to pull Pardee into a headlock. The crowd got upset and told Jack Howe about the hair pulling by Ron Sexton denied it. Pardee tried shooting Sexton off into the ropes but Sexton again used the hair, this time to hold onto the move and the crowd got even more riled up about it. Sexton continued to deny the hair pulling but got caught the 3rd time as Pardee tried to shoot him off in the ropes and Jack Howe saw him using the hair to hold on and forced him to break the hold. Sexton broke the hold and Pardee came charging at him and started firing punches at him but Sexton kept backpedaling into his corner where Rose tagged him on the back and came in without Pardee seeing the tag and blasted Pardee with a rabbit punch and then took him down with a headlock takeover. Pardee quickly broke out of it and put Rose into a headlock of his own and Rose tried to roll Pardee over on his shoulders for a pin while using the tights but Pardee was able to kick out before the count of 3. Pardee complained to the referee about the tights being pulled but Rose did it again and the referee missed it while he counted Pardee's shoulders but Pardee got a shoulder up before the 3 and rolled back over. Rose got caught on the 3rd time he rolled Pardee over using the tights and Jack Howe pushed him back over without counting the pin. Pardee pulled Rose up to his feet and went to set him up for the Bulldog but Sexton grabbed Rose's tights and pulled him back out of it. Pardee thought about charging into their corner and attacking them both but thought better of it and instead went to his corner to tag out to Larry Hamilton as it was announced that there was only 1 minute left in the match. Hamilton came in as Sexton also tagged in and Hamilton shot in with a double leg takedown and grabbed Sexton's legs and rolled on top for a pin only for Sexton to counter into a sunset flip and the two men exchanged pinning combinations until Hamilton secured the Oklahoma Roll but Pat Rose ran in and kicked him in the head to break the pin attempt. Pardee came in and attacked Rose and all 4 men were in the ring fighting when suddenly the bell rang to signal a time limit draw. Result: 15 minute time limit draw Hamilton and Pardee called for 5 more minutes but Rose and Sexton left the ring and went back to the locker room to some boos from the HemisFair crowd. Ron Starr vs. Goldie Rogers - Goldie Rogers was more interested in ogling the women in the front row and than starting the match but Ron Starr didn't share the same sentiments and came up behind Rogers and picked him up and brought him down in a big atomic drop. Rogers staggered around awkwardly and then got spun around and nailed with a big right hand that sent him scurrying to the outside. Rogers shouted at Starr from the floor about embarrassing him in front of all the women in the audience. Starr held open the ropes and motioned for Rogers to come back inside but Rogers continued to pace out on the floor and yell at the women in the front row who laughed at him when he was staggering around after the atomic drop. Rogers finally got back in the ring at the count of 9 only to immediately go back outside the ring and start a conversation with a woman in the front row. Ron Starr then went out after him and grabbed Rogers by the back of the head and slammed it into the guard rail and rolled him back in under the bottom rope. Starr stepped back through the ropes but Rogers was able to kick the rope up from his back which crotched Ron Starr and made him fall awkwardly into the ring. Referee Carl Fergie warned Goldie Rogers and threatened to disqualify him but Rogers didn't pay him any attention as he immediately pounced on his opportunity and started kicking and stomping on Ron Starr. Starr started back to his feet and Rogers picked him up and dropped him throat first across the top rope which caused Fergie to threaten to DQ him again. Rogers then put Starr into chinlock to wear him down. Starr started to fight his way back to his feet but Rogers grabbed his hair and pulled him back down. The referee saw it however and forced Rogers to break. Rogers tried to grab Starr and set him up for his finishing maneuver the Neckbreaker but Starr jammed an elbow hard into Rogers' midsection which doubled him over and then backed up and came rushing in and blasted him with a big Running Kneelift and then pinned him for the victory. Winner: Ron Starr in 7:47 after a Running Kneelift Southwest Television Title: Man Mountain Link vs. Mike Masters - Before the match it was announced that due to Mike Masters' recent actions he would lose the title if he was disqualified in this match! Mike Masters had a fit when it was announced that he would lose the title on a disqualification. He went outside the ring and had a consultation with his manager Jim Holliday before finally stepping between the ropes so that the bell could ring to start the match. Man Mountain Link stood in the center of the ring and challenged Masters to come to him. Masters stepped into the middle of the ring, slapped Link hard across the face and then ran and dove out of the ring and grabbed his Southwest Television Title and ran back to the locker room! Link shouted at him to be a man and come back but Masters was already almost in the locker room by that time and Carl Fergie had no choice but to count Mike Masters out. Winner: Man Mountain Link by count out in 37 seconds El Gran Apollo vs. The Cuban Assassin w/Jose Lothario - El Gran Apollo charged at The Cuban Assassin in his corner and attacked him right at the bell. Jack Howe got in between them to force a break and get them out of the corner and The Cuban Assassin tried to take a cheap shot over Howe's shoulder but Apollo ducked it and came with with a big right hand of his own and started circling The Cuban Assassin and peppering him with jabs and then put him down with a big dropkick. The Cuban Assassin rolled out of the ring and tried to bait Apollo into following him outside where he could get help from Jose Lothario but Apollo instead held the ropes open for The Cuban Assassin to come back into the ring which upset he and Jose. The Cuban Assassin made his way up the ring steps and back onto the apron as Jose complained to the referee to keep Apollo away from the ropes. Jack Howe got in between Apollo and the ropes to get him back and The Cuban Assassin tried to take the opportunity to charge at him but Apollo caught him in an arm drag instead and then hit another big dropkick as The Cuban Assassin got back to his feet. El Gran Apollo whipped The Cuban Assassin into the ropes and went for a Thesz Press on him as he came back in but The Cuban Assassin held on to Apollo and dropped him throat first across the top rope. Apollo laid on the mat holding his throat and The Cuban Assassin pressed his advantage by dropping a leg right across the throat of Apollo and then going for a pin but Apollo was able to kick out. The Cuban Assassin then put El Gran Apollo into a front facelock and kept moving his body around so the referee couldn't see him hitting Apollo in the throat. Apollo was eventually able to push The Cuban Assassin backwards into the ropes to force a break but The Cuban Assassin took another cheap shot to the throat off the break and then put Apollo into a side headlock back in the center of the ring. The Cuban Assassin continued with his previous strategy of keeping the ref out of position to see him taking shots at Apollo's throat. Apollo looked to be fading in the headlock when suddenly with a big burst of energy he picked The Cuban Assassin up and dumped him on his head with a belly to back suplex. Both men were down on the mat with Jack Howe counting but Apollo started back to his feet first. The Cuban Assassin got back up at nearly the same time and started charging at him but Apollo caught him with a drop toehold and The Cuban Assassin landed throat first on the middle rope! Apollo then grabbed the middle rope and pulled it upwards while keeping his knee in The Cuban Assassin's back, choking him as Jose Lothario went nuts at ringside. Jack Howe started the count and Apollo broke at the count of 4 only to start choking The Cuban Assassin again. Jose Lothario jumped up on the apron and Apollo let go of The Cuban Assassin to grab Jose and pull him over the top rope into the ring! Jose tried to beg off but Apollo kicked him in the face and then got on top of him and started pounding on him which turned out to be a bad mistake as The Cuban Assassin came behind him and buried a big knee in his back and then picked him up and dropped him across his knee with a big back breaker. Jose rolled out of the ring as The Cuban Assassin pulled Apollo up off the mat and put him into a bearhug, continuing to work on his back. Apollo broke out of the bearhug by biting The Cuban Assassin and then tried to put The Cuban Assassin into an abdominal stretch but The Cuban Assassin hiptossed his way out of it and one of Apollo's feet ended up hitting Jack Howe in the face as he was coming down. Jack Howe went down on all fours holding his face and Jose Lothario quickly jumped up on the apron and signaled for The Cuban Assassin to bring Apollo over to him. The Cuban Assassin grabbed Apollo's arms behind his back and moved him towards Jose who wound up for a big haymaker with his cast but Apollo ducked at the last second and The Cuban Assassin is the one who got hit with it! The Cuban Assassin dropped like a ton of bricks and Apollo nails Jose with a big punch that dropped him off the apron and then pinned The Cuban Assassin just as Jack Howe recovered and turned around to count the pin. Winner: El Gran Apollo in 9:14 after Jose Lothario's interference backfired El Gran Apollo looked down at The Cuban Assassin who was still knocked out and then at Jose Lothario on the outside. Jose realized what that meant and started running towards the locker room as Apollo came out of the ring after him and the two had a foot race back to the dressing room while Jack Howe had to help The Cuban Assassin up to his feet and back to the locker room as he was still punch drunk from being hit with the cast. Ken Lucas & Eddie Gilbert vs. Yin & Yang - Yang started the match and offered a handshake to Ken Lucas but got a right hand to the jaw instead! Lucas started pounding on him and then whipped him into the corner where Gilbert held him for Lucas to come in with a big knee to the midsection. Gilbert and Lucas made quick tags and isolated Yang in their corner taking out their frustrations on him over their loss the previous week and getting passed over for a Southwest Tag Team Title shot. After a few minutes of working over Yang, Lucas got him into the Sleeper and Yin tried to come in and break it up but Eddie Gilbert saw him coming and quickly climbed the top rope and cut him off with a Top Rope Dropkick and Yang's arm was checked 3 times by the referee and it dropped, making Lucas and Eddie Gilbert the winners in quick and dominating fashion. Winners: Eddie Gilbert and Ken Lucas in 3:52 after Ken Lucas made Yang pass out in the Sleeper David Von Erich w/Sunshine vs. Mr. Saito - Mr. Saito started the match mocking David Von Erich and telling him he was going to break him like Yoshi Seito. Saito then pointed to Sunshine and mimed that he was going to slap her which caused David to jump on him and started pounding on him and the two men quickly engaged in a wild brawl. After a few minutes of back and forth fighting, Saito cut off David with a chop to the throat and then grabbed his right hand and smashed it into the top turnbuckle a few times before referee Jack Howe forced the two men to separate and come out of the corner. David started shaking out his hand as Mr. Saito put his hand into a claw and then shook his finger at David Von Erich, indicating that he was going to keep David from using his Iron Claw by attacking the hand. The two men circles and locked up and Saito grabbed hold of David's right arm and started to wring it but David broke out of it with a big left hand to Saito's jaw and then put Saito in a headlock. Saito got out of the headlock and grabbed David's right arm again and quickly jerked it, slamming David down onto the mat and then stomping on David's right hand. David rolled away and started shaking out his hand again as Mr. Saito stood back laughing at him. The two men circled and looked to lock up again when Saito suddenly chopped David in the throat and bodyslammed him down onto the mat. Saito then jumped into the air and did a double stomp on David's hand which caused David to howl in pain. Saito backed off and put his hand into a claw and started laughing at David again. Saito challenged David to a test of strength but David surprised him with a quick dropkick instead and then pulled Saito into a side headlock. Saito eventually fought out of the side headlock and ended up behind David and put him in the Japanese Sleeper! David fought hard to find a way out of it but Saito kept it locked on and David started to fade and had his hand raised and dropped twice but the third time he was able to keep it up and make a desperate lunge forward to get into the ropes. Saito broke the hold but then David in position for a Saito Suplex but as he lifted him, David kicked off the ropes and shifted his weight and landed on top of Mr. Saito and hooked his legs and got the 3 count to win the match! Winner: David Von Erich in 8:03 after kicking off the ropes and shifting his weight on a Saito Suplex to cause himself to land on top of Saito. Mr. Saito got up enraged and started attacking David Von Erich. He started stomping on David's right hand again, trying to break it when suddenly Sunshine got in the ring and jumped on his back and started clawing at his eyes! Saito started swinging around try to shake her off and Sunshine finally fell off his back and down on the mat. Saito started grasping blindly trying to find her but instead he found David Von Erich's left fist as David started pounding on him and then threw him over the top rope to the floor. David put Sunshine behind him and guarded her as Saito got up on the floor and threatened both of them while still trying to clear his vision. Saito got up on the apron to get back in the ring but David charged at him with a high knee and knocked him back down which set Saito into a rage. Saito looked to try to get in the ring but eventually thought better of it and headed back to the locker room, the whole while keeping his eyes locked on David & Sunshine and making threats to both of them AWA Southwest Tag Team Titles: The Rock N Roll Express vs. The Assassins - The Rock N Roll Express started the match using their speed and quickness to outmaneuver The Assassins and keep them off balance, and just totally dominating the early going. After a few minutes of hit and run tactics from Ricky & Robert, things finally shifted towards The Assassins when Ricky went for a flying headscisscors on Assassin #2 but was close enough for Assassin #1 to grab his head and slam him down neck first across the top rope. This led to The Assassins getting Ricky isolated in their corner and working him over with Assassin #1 using holds while Assassin #2 was content to just pound, kick, punch and stomp on Ricky to wear him down. Assassin #1 eventually missed a big elbow drop and Ricky crawled to the corner and made the tag before Assassin #1 could stop him but referee Carl Fergie missed the tag due to Assassin #2 rushing into the ring just as Ricky was going to tag and getting Fergie's attention. Fergie turned back around to see Robert Gibson punching Assassin #1 and not knowing there was a tag, forcing Robert back out of the ring. Assassin #1 then got Ricky back into his corner and the beating continued for Morton with Assassin #2 coming in and just stomping on every part of his body. Finally Ricky was able to make the tag again after Assassin #2 loaded up his boot and went for his Running Boot but Ricky slid under it and dove to tag in Robert! All hell broke loose after that as all 4 men wound up fighting in the ring and Ricky & Robert hit a Double Dropkick on Assassin #2. The referee focused on getting Ricky Morton out of the ring as Robert went to cover Assassin #2 which allowed Assassin #1 to drop a big elbow on the back of Robert's head and cover him while helping Assassin #2 roll out of the ring just as Carl Fergie turned back around to make the pin. Winners and STILL AWA Southwest Tag Team Champions: The Assassins in 14:45 after Assassin #1 pinned Robert Gibson following an elbow drop to the back of the head, despite not being the legal man AWA Southwest Heavyweight Title: Roy Lee Welch vs. Tully Blanchard - The match starts with Tully offering a handshake and Roy not taking the bait. Tully still tries for a slap but Welch is able to back away from it and then comes back firing punches as Tully avoids them by retreating to the corner while complaining to referee Jack Howe about the closed fists. Tully comes back into the center of the ring and looks for a lockup but instead buries a knee into the midsection of Welch and then drops an elbow on the back of Welch's head and tries to whip him into the corner but Welch reverses and then catches Blanchard with a hip toss as he comes stumbling back out of the corner. Tully quickly begs off into the corner and calls for a time out. Tully comes back out and locks up with Welch and quickly pulls him into a headlock and then catches him under the chin with an uppercut where the referee can't see it. Tully keeps repositioning the hold to keep his back to Jack Howe as he fires some more punches at Welch as he's trapped in the headlock. Welch gets his arm up to block one of the punches however and then switches out of the headlock and puts Tully into a headlock of his own and starts firing punches at Tully's face right in front of the referee who forces him to break the hold. Tully again retreats to the corner and complains about the closed fists while Welch challenges him to come back out and meet him in the center of the ring. Tully slowly comes out of the corner and then quickly dives at Welch's leg and takes him down and starts to twist on his ankle but Welch quickly kicks him off, gets back to his feet and Tully backs off into the corner again. Tully warily makes his way out of the corner and locks up with Welch who quickly grabs Tully's arm and starts wringing on it and twists it so hard Tully flips over and falls to the mat and then Welch drops down on the arm with a leg drop and maintains control of the arm with an arm bar. Tully tries to fight his way out of the hold but Welch turns him over on his back with one arm pinned under him and puts the other arm under his shoulder, forcing Tully to have to exert energy to keep his shoulders off the mat for a 3 count. Tully is able to squirm towards the corner and get his foot outside of the ring to force a break. As Welch lets go of the hold, Tully rakes his eyes and then quickly climbs to the 2nd turnbuckle and comes off with an elbow to the back of the head of a kneeling Roy Lee Welch and goes for a cover but Welch kicks out at the count of 2. Tully keeps attacking the neck with more elbows and then gets Welch down in a sitting position on the mat and really starts twisting and wrenching on his neck. Tully lets go of the hold for a moment to drop some elbows on Welch's face and then puts the hold back on. Welch grabs one of Tully's arm's and is able to break Tully's grip but Tully uses his free arm to drop another elbow into Welch's nose and put the hold back on. Welch finally breaks out of the hold with punches and tries to grab hold of Tully who slips away and rolls out of the ring to break Welch's momentum and regain his composure. Welch goes over to the ropes and starts to go out after him but Jack Howe stops him which gives Tully the opening to pull his legs out from under him and slam his leg down over the apron. Tully held on to Welch's leg and rolled back in the ring and dropped an elbow on it and then put draped it over the bottom rope and came down with all his weight on it. Tully pulled Roy into the center of the ring and tried to set him up for a figure four but Welch kicked him off. Welch scrambled up to his feet, favoring his left leg but Tully quickly came in with a chop block and put him back down on the mat and this time was able to lock in the figure four. Welch was eventually able to pull his weight and Tully's into the ropes to get a break but not until after the damage had been done to his knee. Jack Howe forced Tully to let go of the hold and Welch quickly pulled himself up using the ropes but Tully kicked his leg out from under him and started pulling him back into the center of the ring. Tully started to put the figure four back on but Welch caught him with a kick right under the chin which put Tully down on the mat. Welch and Tully got to their feet at the same time and Tully went for a punch but Welch ducked it and did a double leg takedown on Tully and put on the Spinning Toe Hold! Welch started really turning and cranking on it as Tully squirmed and wiggled his way into the ropes. Jack Howe forced a break and Tully got up limping. Welch kicked Tully's leg out from under him and pulled him back into the center of the ring and started setting up for the Spining Toe Hold again. Tully started kicking at Welch's bad knee with his free leg and broke out of Welch's grasp and then rolled him into a small package and held onto Welch's tights to keep him from kicking out as Jack Howe made the 3 count. Winner and STILL AWA Southwest Heavyweight Champion: Tully Blanchard in 13:09 with a small package with a hand full of tights Roy complained to the referee about his tights being pulled but Jack Howe claimed he didn't see it. Tully was already halfway up the aisle with the Southwest Heavyweight Title as Jack Howe started asking the fans at ringside about it. Jack Howe could only explain to Roy Lee Welch that he didn't see it and eventually Roy left the ring very upset and limped back to the locker room. Sgt. Slaughter vs. Jim Duggan - Slaughter attacks Duggan as soon as he comes into the ring and starts pounding on him. Carl Fergie tries to get a break but then decides to just ring the bell and start the match. Sarge goes to the eyes once Duggan starts to fire back and then Slaughter grabs him by the hair and slams his head into the top turnbuckle and continues pounding on him. Fergie tries to get Slaughter to give Duggan a break in the corner but Slaughter is right on top of him just pounding and kicking away and then starts choking him. Fergie warns Slaughter that he's going to disqualify him but Sarge shouts back that he doesn't care! Fergie looks ready to call for the bell when suddenly Duggan fights out of the choke by nailing Slaughter with a big right hand. Slaughter stumbles backwards but then tries to come in with a big double sledge but Duggan hits him in the stomach and then starts teeing off on him with big punches. Duggan has Slaughter reeling on the ropes and charges at him with a big clothesline that sends both men flying over the top rope and crashing hard on the outside. Rather than start counting, Fergie goes outside to see if either man is injured and then heads back in the ring and starts a slow 10 count. Duggan and Slaughter both start to get up at around the count of 4 but seemingly pay no attention to Carl Fergie counting them out and just start pounding on each other again. Duggan is getting the better of the fight until Slaughter goes after the eyes again and slams Duggan's head off the ring apron. Slaughter goes to slam Duggan's head into the ring post as Fergie gets to the count of 8 but Duggan blocks it with his hands and then throws an elbow back and catches Slaughter in the side of the head and rams HIS head into the post. Fergie leaves the ring and pleads with Duggan to get back in the ring but Duggan ignores him and goes after Slaughter who is stumbling around and nails him with a big punch that sends Sarge stumbling backwards into the ring steps. Fergie goes back in the ring and starts his count again as Duggan gets down in the 3 point stance and charges at Slaughter but Slaughter moves out of the way and Duggan goes flying into the steps hard. Fergie pleads with Slaughter to get back in the ring as he reaches the count of 7 but Slaughter instead starts slamming Duggan's head off the wooden steps and now Duggan is busted open also. Finally Carl Fergie reaches the count of 10 and has no choice but to count out both men and declare the match a draw. Result: Double count out in 5:43 The bell ringing had no effect on Sgt. Slaughter as he continued to attack Jim Duggan. He got Duggan set up to bodyslam him down on the floor of The HemisFair Arena but Duggan blocked it and picked up Slaughter and hit a bodyslam of his own! Duggan staggered and tried to clear the blood from his eyes as Slaughter stumbled back up to his feet and the two men started firing punches at each other again. Carl Fergie motioned for help from the back and suddenly Bruiser Costa, Terry Adonis, Mike Jackson and Tony Torres came out to try and break up the brawl only to wind up involved in it as Duggan and Slaughter started fighting them off to get back to fighting with each other. More wrestlers came out from the back as Ron Sexton, Pat Rose, Steve Pardee and Larry Hamilton came out and tried to help restore order but Slaughter and Duggan still were trying to get at each other causing Eddie Gilbert, Ken Lucas, Ron Starr, and El Gran Apollo to come out and finally with 12 wrestlers out there, they were able to keep Slaughter and Duggan apart and bring an end to their bloody brawl. Both men were led to their respective locker rooms but had their eyes locked on one another the whole time, shouting and making threats even as they disappeared behind the curtains of the separate locker rooms. -
Yea more people need to see when John Tatum picked up a jobber and threw him over the barricade AT the fans. No, not into. At.
-
That's pretty much what I was assuming the deal was on those Mid-South shows, it was stuff they already converted for DVD releases.
-
Well Mid-South and Memphis were two territories that tried to present things in a realistic fashion and not insult the fans intelligence (well at least when Jerry Jarrett was booking, Lawler got a little too into his comic book & monster movie fandom at times) so acknowledging that two obviously roided up guys were on steroids fits that mentality. It's not like the fans couldn't tell. I remember Bill Watts himself talking about steroids on the shows at times but I can't remember the exact context like the one of Hercules talking about doing dianabol or Phil Hickerson's promo from Memphis.
-
Steroids were not illegal until 1990 and weren't really a secret in the territories. Hercules openly referred to doing steroids in at least one promo in Mid-South and Phil Hickerson talked shit about the Blade Runners in their Memphis run saying the only thing they knew how to do was "pull them britches down and put them steroids in that booty"
-
Haven't had a chance to watch that match yet but that was kind of a standard bump for Debbie Combs because I remember making a gif out of it when she popped up on an episode of 1986 Continental. And I know I saw her do it somewhere else but can't remember what promotion it was from. Actually was really impressed with Debbie Combs in that Continental match because she was working with Despina Montagues who looked really green but still had a good match with her. I need to eventually watch that match with Donna Day.
-
I'm definitely not giving them money again until they actually show commitment to this stuff. Something is obviously better than nothing but 3 episodes of Mid-South that isn't even close to being in chronological order isn't doing more than making me pay attention to see if they ever fill in the gaps. Which they never did with World Class so I'm not that optimistic. The fact that they are uploading a few episodes here and there of so many different territories actually makes me think it's less likely they commit to giving something close to a full run of any of them.
-
More good stuff here with Briscos/Long Rigers. I'm interested to see where stuff goes with Eddie Graham talking about getting into the ring again. I almost expected him to say "I gotta be a man, I can't let it slide" As far as Terry Daniels goes I'm pretty sure he actually IS from Texas.
-
Seems like this would be a better fit for the main pro wrestling folder since I'm guessing a lot of people who might have non-WWE matches to add would just assume this is for WWE only.
-
It's almost like someone predicted that would happen...
-
The idea Foley had in his 2nd book for him and Rock was even worse than that one about Funk and Melina.
-
Fines and bounties are both good picks, disappointed in myself for not including those in the OP as I've gotten a lot of use out of both in my writing.
-
Like what time period are you talking about? Because TNA has had some good-decent periods and I struggle to think of a time period that was as consistently awful as 2000 WCW was.
-
They put my man Bob Armstrong in so they're just fine in my book.
-
I saw it and meant to start a topic but didn't. Posted some videos on twitter which I will re-post here now: Here is an intense promo from Tommy talking about protecting his son Eddie from Buddy Wayne (and some typical Memphis shenanigans break out) And here is my all time favorite Memphis music video. Not sure how many other wrestlers would have been good enough to make Freddy Kruger work as a BABYFACE wrestler. And get him really over.

Taped at The Junction in San Antonio, TX on 11/28 Southwest Championship Wrestling airing on Saturday 12/3 in local markets -Show intro- Steve Stack: Welcome to another edition of Southwest Championship Wrestling, the most exciting hour in all of professional wrestling! We've got a lot of things to get to in this hour but I'd like to start off by informing the fans that we have new Southwest Tag Team Champions as The Assassins were victorious last Sunday night in their match against The Fabulous Ones. I should say, their match against Stan Lane as The Assassins attacked Steve Keirn before the match and further injured his already bad shoulder to the point where Keirn was unable to compete. The match was going to be called off but The Assassins demanded they win the titles by forfeit if the match didn't take place and so Stan Lane tried to go it alone to hold on to the titles but he was unable to fight off both of The Assassins by himself. Stanley Blackburn has reviewed the events that took place before and during that match and has deemed The Assassins the rightful holders of the Southwest Tag Team Titles but he HAS fined them both $1000 for their attack on Steve Keirn prior to the match. He was ready to sign a rematch between The Fabulous Ones and The Assassin for the belts this Sunday night but Steve Keirn suffered a badly separated shoulder and is going to be unable to compete for at least a few weeks. We'll be hearing an update on his condition from The Fabulous Ones themselves later in the hour but they have promised a big surprise for The Assassins as they have apparently gotten a top tag team in the AWA to come in and take their place this Sunday night against The Assassins. We'll have more information on that later in the hour but in other news from Sunday night, we saw a breakdown in the partnership between Mr. Saito and Yoshi Seito as Mr. Saito came down to the ring and try to slap Sunshine after Seito's loss to David Von Erich only to be stopped by Yoshi Seito himself. This caused Mr. Saito to become enraged and attack his young protege only to be chased off by David Von Erich, at the request of Sunshine. In the main event here on television today we will see the young Yoshi Seito try and gain a measure of revenge on his former mentor as he takes on Mr. Saito in one on one action. We've got that and more scheduled for today's program so don't go away during this commercial break because you won't want to miss a minute of the best that wrestling has to offer right here on Southwest Championship Wrestling! -First commercial break- Steve Stack: We're back on Southwest Championship Wrestling and before we talk to The Fabulous Ones we're going to head down to the ring for our first match of the day between the newly formed team of Larry Hamilton and Steve Pardee against Snake Brown and Paul Peller. Steve Stack: Another quick victory for the team of Hamilton and Pardee and I think these two young men could have quite future together as a tag team. This Sunday night we'll be seeing them in action against two newcomers in the area when they take on Pat Rose and Ron Sexton in the HemisFair Arena and I'm sure it's going to be an exciting match that you won't want to miss. Now I want to bring in two men who unfortunately will NOT be in action this Sunday night, the former Southwest Tag Team Champions, Stan Lane and Steve Keirn: The Fabulous Ones! Steve Stack: Gentlemen first let me say how disappointed I was to see you lose your titles under such unfavorable circumstances. The Assassins jump you before the match and then you're still forced to either defend the titles or forfeit them which wasn't exactly the most fair set of circumstances to work with. Stan Lane: Well Steve Stack, my momma taught me a long time ago that life ain't fair. And it proved to be true last Sunday night at The HemisFair Arena when we got robbed of OUR Southwest Tag Team Titles. But there's another old saying "what goes around comes around" and sooner or later we're going to get our revenge on The Assassins and not only are we going to get our belts back we might just take some masks off for good measure. Steve Keirn: I can't help but feel responsible for what happened Sunday night, as it was my fault that my partner had to go it alone against The Assassins. And it's my fault we can't be there Sunday night to win back our titles for all our fans. Stan Lane: Don't say that Steve, it's not your fault, it's The Assassins fault and everyone knows that. Steve Keirn: Be that as it may, it's my injury that is going to keep us from being able to compete for the next few weeks. But I wanted to try and make it up to all the fans who have been so great to us since we came here to Texas and that's why I got on the phone and called one of the most exciting teams in all of professional wrestling to come and take our place in the match against The Assassins this Sunday night. And rather than tell you who they are, I got a video tape made to show you just who is coming in this Sunday night and who is going to be kicking some Assassin butt in our place. Stan Lane: Before you show that video Steve Stack I just want to say that Steve Keirn and I are a team. We're not just partners in the ring, we're best friends and we do everything together. So while Steve is out, I'm not gonna going to be here wrestling by myself I'm going to be with Steve helping him rehab his shoulder injury and get ready to comeback and take back our Southwest Tag Team Titles. So you won't be seeing either of us around for a little while but I promise we will be back and when we do come back we're going to make up for lost time and give The Assassins a beating like they've never had before. -The Fabulous Ones leave the interview area Steve Stack: Alright fans you've just heard from The Assassins now let's take a look at this video tape and see who will be in action against The Assassins this Sunday night in the Southwest Tag Team Title match. -A video set to the tune of Electric Light Orchestra's 'Rock N Roll Is King' plays with highlights of The Rock N Roll Express in action against teams like The Bruiser Brothers, The Japanese Assassins and The Road Warriors with a heavy emphasis on them double dropkicking their opponents Steve Stack: Well judging by the response to that video here in The Junction, Rock N Roll might very well be king! It looks like The Assassins are in for quite a fight this Sunday night as they take on the team of Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson, The Rock N Roll Express! Fans we've got to take another commercial break but don't go away because you never know what's next here on Southwest Championship Wrestling! -Second commercial break- Steve Stack: We're back on Southwest Championship Wrestling! Last Sunday night at The HemisFair Arena we saw Jim Duggan and Ron Starr team up to take on Tully Blanchard and Mr. Saito with a lot on the line as Tully and Mr. Saito were trying to hold off Duggan and Starr from receiving any future Southwest Heavyweight Title matches as long as Tully is the champion while if Duggan or Starr won the match the winner of the fall would have received a title match this Sunday night at the HemisFair Arena. Things didn't quite work out well for the team of the 'Hacksaw' and 'Rugged' Ron Starr however as Sheik Adnan made good on his word of having an American hero attack Jim Duggan as a former Drill Sergeant in the U.S. Marines who wrestles under the name Sgt. Slaughter appeared and attacked Jim Duggan, helping Tully and Mr. Saito secure a victory for their team. I had the chance to talk to Sgt. Slaughter backstage following that incident and let's take a look now at those videotaped comments. Steve Stack: Those were the comments of Sgt. Slaughter, now let me bring in 'Hacksaw' Jim Duggan and see what he has to say in response. Steve Stack: Jim you just heard Sgt. Slaughter's explanation for why he attacked you last Sunday night, what are your thoughts? Jim Duggan: I think I'm getting real sick and tired of all these mercenaries coming from Sheik Adnan and interfering in my matches! Now because of what happened, I'm barred from getting any Southwest Heavyweight Title matches while Tully Blanchard is still the champion. So let me tell you something Sgt. Slaughter, you're worried about my hair, you're worried about what kind of music I listen to well you better be worried about me taking this big fist and shoving it all the way down your throat! I have a lot of respect for people who have served and fought for this country but I don't have any respect for a man who would take money from a rat like Geek Adnan so Slaughter, this Sunday night when you step in the ring with me you better be ready to go back to war. You better be more worried about your own survival than trying to cut my hair because I'm looking to send you to the hospital a broken, beaten man as a warning to Sheik Adnan and anyone else who is thinking about taking his money to come here and mess with me! -Jim Duggan leaves the interview area- Steve Stack: A very understandably fired up Jim Duggan and I can assure you fans, the match between Jim Duggan and Sgt. Slaughter this Sunday night will be the war he just promised. Right now I'd like to bring in another man with a big match coming up this Sunday night, a man who will be taking on Tully Blanchard for the Southwest Heavyweight Title, former Television Champion, Roy Lee Welch. -Roy Lee Welch comes into the interview area Steve Stack: Roy you weren't here on the program last week so let me just say how disappointed I was two weeks ago to see your cousin Robert Fuller interfere and cause you to lose the Southwest Television Title. Roy Lee Welch: Well thank you Steve it was a big disappointment to me also. But it's also given me a lot of motivation and that's why this week when I was offered a rematch against Mike Masters for the Television Title, I instead asked for a match with Tully Blanchard for the Southwest Heavyweight Title. I knew that Tully didn't have an opponent for this week and if I'm able to beat him and take that belt from him, it gives me a lot of leverage to reach to my goal. Because my cousin Robert Fuller thought he'd just get one last laugh on me and run back to Alabama. But I've got different plans. Robert is the AWA National Champion which means he has to defend that belt all across the country. Which is why, after I beat Tully for the Southwest Heavyweight Title I am going to be petitioning Stanley Blackburn to make Robert come back here to Texas, without his brother Ron Fuller or our cousin Jimmy Golden, and defend that National Title against me. Robert, I'm sure you'll find a way to see this or at least have the word get back to you. You caused me to lose my Television Title and now I'm going to take a title from you in return, I'm going to beat you for that National Heavyweight Title right in the middle of the ring, right here in my new home of San Antonio, Texas and then you can go back to Alabama and cry to the rest of the family how you got beat by the "runt" of the family! -Roy Lee Welch leaves the area- Steve Stack: Fans you just heard it, Roy Lee Welch is a man with a very clear goal in mind, he wants to get Robert Fuller back here in the area to defend that National Heavyweight Title but he has a very big hurdle in front of him because he has to beat Tully Blanchard for the Southwest Heavyweight Title first and no one has been able to do that in the nearly 6 months that Tully has held that title. We've got to take another time out for our sponsors but don't go away because when we come back we'll see the Southwest Television Title be defending as Mike Masters puts the belt on the line against the undefeated Man Mountain Link! You won't want to miss it! -Third commercial break- Steve Stack: We're back on Southwest Championship Wrestling and with me now is the Southwest Television Champion, Mike Masters and his manager 'Gentleman' Jim Holliday. First Mike let me ask you about the match with Roy Lee Welch last Sunday night where you had your title saved when Jim Holli- Jim Holliday: Hey! We're not our here to talk about Roy Lee Welch! He realized he was better off moving on from trying to get back the Television Title because he knew he could never defeat my man Mike Masters. Now if you don't have any other questions we're just going to cut this interview short and head to the ring. Steve Stack: Alright then, let me ask you a question Jim. Last Sunday night we saw the team of Timothy Flowers and Goldie Rogers defeated by Man Mountain Link and Tiny Anderson which is what led to Link getting the TV Title shot here today. It looked like Timothy Flowers could have made the save for Goldie Rogers at the end of that match but seemingly you told him not to. Why is that? Jim Holliday: Because great men can admit their own mistakes and I am nothing if not great. I realized that I was mistaken in giving Goldie Rogers a probationary period to see if he had what it took to be a part of the Gentleman's Club. He did not and I told Timothy Flowers that we were better off leaving him to be defeated rather than trying to carry him to success on our backs. Steve Stack: So then it's safe to say that Goldie Rogers' probationary period with you is over? Jim Holliday: Absolutely it is! The Gentleman's Club is the most exclusive in all of wrestling, I only want the finest athletes, the best up and coming stars in the sport to be under my management. And that's why Goldie Rogers was left behind because he just didn't make the cut. You can see what my managerial services provide, I've already gotten Mike Masters the Television Title and as soon as I find the appropriate partner for 'Diamond' Timothy Flowers then I will make him a tag team champion. But first I have to find the right person and Goldie Rogers was not it. Steve Stack: Well before you head down to the ring, let me ask you what your thoughts are on this match getting ready to take place between Mike Masters and Man Mountain Link? Link has been undefeated since coming to the area and has barely even been taken off his feet, what is the strategy for Mike Masters to beat him here today? Holliday: I'm not going to discuss my strategy with you! All I will say is that yes, sure, Man Mountain Link is undefeated but nothing lasts forever and today that streak is going to end at the hands of YOUR Southwest Television Champion, the greatest young star in this sport, Mike Masters. Now if you'll excuse us, we have to head down to the ring so Mike Masters can show all these people just what a great champion looks like. -Mike Masters and Jim Holliday leave the interview area- Steve Stack: Alright fans let's not waste any more time, we want to make sure we have enough time in case this match reaches the 10 minute time limit, let's head down to the ring now where Man Mountain Link is already standing by to face the TV Champion, Mike Masters! Timothy Flowers kicks and stomps on Link until Link starts to get back to his feet and Flowers quickly dives out of the ring as Jim Holliday pulls Masters out under the bottom rope. Link starts out of the ring after them but Flowers and Holliday get under each arm of Masters and high tail it back to the locker room and away from Man Mountain Link. Steve Stack: And Mike Masters has his title saved on another disqualification! AWA President Stanley Blackburn is going to have to do something about this as that's no way for a champion to retain his title. -Man Mountain Link comes charging into the interview area Man Mountain Link: What kind of a champion is Mike Masters!? He has to have his manager and his buddy come out and save his title for him?! Well I'm not done with you yet Mike Masters and I'm not going to stop until I not only take that title from you but I squash you like the annoying little bug that you are! This isn't just about what you did to my brother Tiny Anderson anymore, this is about what you've done to me now! I'm going to make sure I get a rematch with you this Sunday night at the HemisFair Arena! And you better show up because if you don't you're gonna be handing that TV Title over by forfeit! -Link leaves the interview area Steve Stack: After the events that just took place I can't imagine Stanley Blackburn not making a rematch for this Sunday night at the HemisFair Arena! And I hope he does because Man Mountain Link deserves a fair shot at the TV Title and not that farce of a title match that we just saw. Fans, we've got to take a commercial break but don't go away when we come back we're going to be talking to David Von Erich and the lovely Sunshine about their match this Sunday night against Mr. Saito and we'll also hear from the Southwest Heavyweight Champion Tully Blanchard, you won't want to miss it! -Fourth commercial break- Steve Stack: We're back on Southwest Championship Wrestling and with me now is David Von Erich and his lovely girlfriend Sunshine! David I didn't have a chance to tell you last week with all the tension between you and Jim Duggan but I wanted to say it's great to see you healthy again and have you back in the ring. David Von Erich: Thank you Steve and it's great to be back. But what's not great is the fact that that lowdown good for nothing lackey of Tully Blanchard tried to come out last Sunday and slap Sunshine. Luckily for him Yoshi Seito grabbed his hand or he might be in a grave right now and I'd be in jail. But regardless of whether he hit her or not, he's still going to pay. This Sunday night I've got a match with Mr. Saito and I'm going to squeeze his fat head like a grape in the Iron Claw and make him beg and scream for forgiveness. And I don't care if he gives up, I don't care what the referee says, I'm not going to take the Claw off until Sunshine tells me that he's had enough. Steve Stack: Now David this is an important match for you, not just to defend the honor of Sunshine but because Stanley Blackburn has said if you win this match you'll be facing Tully Blanchard next week in the HemisFair Arena. I know you want to make Mr. Saito pay but surely your number one goal is to get that match with Tully Blanchard. David Von Erich: You're right Steve Stack, that's obviously the thing I want most in this world right now, a match with the scum of the earth Tully Blanchard. So I guess I should try and temper my emotions this Sunday night, I can't get disqualified or I know Tully will keep right on trying to hide from me and avoid getting the payback that he has coming to him. Tully, I promised you the beating of your life for what you did to me and what you did to Sunshine and I intend to follow through on that promise. It wouldn't matter if you put Andre the Giant in front of me this Sunday night, I'd find a way to beat him so I could get to you. So you just get ready for it because next week it WILL be you and me in that ring and it's going to be a long, painful, bloody night for in the HemisFair Arena. Sunshine: Tully Blanchard are you proud of shoving me around? Are you proud of sending your bodyguard out to try and slap me? Is that the kind of man you are? Is that who your mother and father raised you to be? You're a disgusting excuse for a man and you don't deserve to be called a champion. I stood by David Von Erich in the darkest moments of his career and I helped him get ready for this comeback and I can not wait to see him give you the beating that you deserve. And after it's all over Tully, after he's beaten you and left you in a pool of your own blood I want you to know I'm going to be right there to smile in your face and spit on you like the worthless trash that you are! David: I think Sunshine just said everything that needs to be said Steve Stack. -David Von Erich and Sunshine leave the interview area- Steve Stack: Indeed she did. It will certainly be interesting to see what happens if David Von Erich is victorious this Sunday against Mr. Saito and receives that one on one match with Tully Blanchard. Now before we talk to the aforementioned Southwest Heavyweight Champion, let me bring out the new Southwest Tag Team Champions and talk to them about their win last Sunday night and their opponents this Sunday, The Rock N Roll Express. -The Assassins come into the interview area Steve Stack: First let me ask you how you feel about the way you won the Southwest Tag Team Titles by forcing Steve Keirn out of the match and beating Stan Lane in what was essentially a handicap match? Assassin #1: Do you think I'm going to say that I feel ashamed? That I feel bad for The Fabulous Ones for how they lost the titles? Well I don't feel that way Steve Stack, I feel great about standing out here with this belt on my shoulder. Why should I have any remorse about the way we won the titles? It's not our fault that Steve Keirn is weak and couldn't take what we dished out. I have nothing but contempt for The Fabulous Ones and not an ounce of sympathy anywhere in my body. The only thing I regret is that we didn't injure Stan Lane as well. Steve Stack: Alright then since you've made your feelings about The Fabulous Ones perfectly clear, let me ask you about your opponents this Sunday night, The Rock N Roll Express. Assassin #1: The Rock N Roll Express...those 2 little teenybopper idols think they have what it takes to step into the ring with the most dangerous tag team in wrestling? Did they not see what we just did to The Fabulous Ones? Do they not realize that they are here to wrestle the greatest tag team in the world and not go to some rock concert? There won't be any music videos made about what we do to them this Sunday night, there won't be anyone screaming Rock N Roll, there will just be a trail of tears from their little teenage girl fans as they get carried back to Memphis on stretchers. I don't know what The Fabulous Ones have against Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson but they must not like them very much to put them into the ring with us because we aren't playing games, we are going to hurt them and we are going to hurt them bad. -The Assassins leave the interview area and suddenly Ken Lucas and Eddie Gilbert come in & Eddie Gilbert: Look Steve, you don't have to tell me we didn't have any time on today's show because we already know that. So I'll make this short and sweet. We aren't happy about getting passed over once again for a tag team title shot by two guys who have never even wrestled together as a team in this area. Steve Stack: But they are one of the top teams in the AWA rankings and Ricky Morton is a former Southwest Tag Team Champion and Ken you know that better than anyone because YOU were his partner! Ken Lucas: Of course I know that Steve, and I don't have a problem with Ricky Morton. He's a heck of a wrestler and I'm happy to see him having success in other parts of the country with a new partner. But that doesn't mean he should be able to come here and leapfrog us for a tag team title match. Steve Stack: Look, I don't want to start any trouble out here but you two were defeated last Sunday night by Yin and Yang, it would have been tough to justify you even getting a tag team title match over them much less the Rock N Roll Express. Ken Lucas: You know that Yang put something in his mask to win that match! There is no way he could have completely knocked me out with a headbutt otherwise. Look I see your producer trying to get you to push us out of here so I'll just say this. We want to face whoever wins the Southwest Tag Team Title match this Sunday night and there won't be any reason not to give us that match because we are going to beat Yin and Yang this Sunday and it won't matter what they put in their masks this time because we're going to be ready. -Ken Lucas and Eddie Gilbert leave the interview area and Tully Blanchard comes in Tully Blanchard: Oh boo hoo for Eddie Gilbert and Ken Lucas, they didn't get their tag team title match. Well maybe they should have been like me and won their tag team match last Sunday night. Did you see that beating Mr. Saito and I put on Jim Duggan and Ron Starr? It's a good thing for them they are barred from getting a shot at this Southwest Heavyweight Title, at least it saves them another beating from me. Steve Stack: It seemed to me that you were the lucky recipient of interference by Sgt. Slaughter but I don't want to talk about that, I wanted to ask you about your match this Sunday night against Roy Lee Welch. Tully Blanchard: Who does that little runt think he is? He's out here talking about beating me so he can get a match with someone else? What a joke! Who is he to look past the greatest Southwest Heavyweight Champion there has ever been? I'm gonna embarrass and humiliate that punk this Sunday night and make sure he doesn't get anywhere close to earning a National Title shot. If Robert Fuller is going to come here and defend that title against anyone, it's going to be ME! Steve Stack: And what about the comments from David Von Erich out here earlier? Tully Blanchard: What about them? You want me to comment on everyone's dreams and wishes that won't come true? First you ask me about Roy Welch's pipe dream of beating me to get to Robert Fuller now you ask me about David's fantasy of him actually being able to beat Mr. Saito and get a match with me. Steve Stack, I think you must have been drinking during the show today to waste my time asking me about these fantasies so I'll leave you now and give you some more alone time with whatever bottle you're sipping out of. -Tully leaves the interview area Steve Stack: It appears Tully Blanchard isn't very interested in contemplating the idea of getting in the ring with David Von Erich next week. Well that interview was scheduled to go a little longer but that's fine this gives me the time to talk about some of the other events that went on over the past week. Last Sunday night at The HemisFair Arena we saw the debut of The Cuban Assassin who was victorious over El Gran Apollo but not without some controversy as he had some help from his manager Jose Lothario in picking up that win. Due to those circumstances El Gran Apollo has been given a return bout this Sunday night. I've also heard that El Gran Apollo paid that $5000 fine that was levied against The Cuban Assassin with a little help from Jim Duggan who agreed to paid him a finder's fee if he helped Jim Duggan get in contact with Ron Starr while he was in Puerto Rico and paid Apollo an undisclosed amount of money once he was sure that Ron Starr was in the arena last Sunday night. Regardless, I know that Apollo had to be very upset at paying off the fine to allow The Cuban Assassin to compete only to be defeated by him last Sunday night and I have to image he'll be even more fired up this Sunday night than he was last week to get his revenge. Right now we've got to take our final commercial break of the program but don't go away because when we come back we're going to see our TV main event between Mr. Saito and his former protege, Yoshi Seito! -Fifth and final commercial break- Steve Stack: We're back on Southwest Championship Wrestling and before we go to the ring for our main event, Mr. Saito had something he wanted to say. Mr. Saito: Yoshi Seito write me letter, ask me bring him here to America, train him, help him become great wrestler like Mr. Saito. 3 months I train him karate, judo, wrestling, I try make him #2 after #1 Saito. But he disappoint me, he embarrass me, and last week he stop me from slap Sunshine like she deserve. So now I finish with Yoshi Seito, now his turn to be embarrass, his turn to be humiliate. Because today I finish him for good, I send him back to Japan broken, after today he never wrestle again. Yoshi Seito today you learn your final lesson from me, never cross Mr. Saito! -Mr. Saito heads down to the ring Steve Stack: Well one thing is for sure Yoshi Seito definitely has his work cut out for him today against the angry Mr. Saito. Mr. Saito refuses to break the Japanese Sleeper after the bell is rung however and demands the Jack Howe check his arm. Howe tried to get Saito to break the hold, telling him the match is already over but Saito refuses and finally Jack Howe relents and raises Yoshi Seito's arm 3 times and lets it fall. But Saito STILL refuses to let go of the hold until suddenly David Von Erich runs out to the ring with a chair and Mr. Saito seems him coming and drops the lifeless Yoshi Seito and retreats from the ring just in time to avoid getting hit by David Von Erich. Mr. Saito motions to David Von Erich that he's next and walks back to the locker room as Jack Howe and David Von Erich check on the unconscious Yoshi Seito. Steve Stack: I hate to say it but it looks like Mr. Saito may have been correct, that may very well have been the last time Yoshi Seito ever wrestles. That was one of the most disturbing beatings I have ever seen in professional wrestling and I hope that Yoshi Seito did not suffer any permanent injuries as a result of that match. What a low point to end this program on but fans we're out of time. Make sure to get your tickets for this Sunday night at The HemisFair Arena to see the debut of The Rock N Roll Express as they take on the Southwest Tag Team Champions, The Assassins! You'll also Jim Duggan go to war against Sgt. Slaughter, Tully Blanchard defend the Southwest Heavyweight Title against Roy Lee Welch, Stanley Blackburn has called in to inform us that he WILL force Mike Masters to give Man Mountain Link a rematch for the TV Title, all that and much more this Sunday night, you won't want to miss it! And make sure to join us here again next week for more of the most exciting hour in all of professional wrestling here on Southwest Championship Wrestling! Scheduled for Sunday, December 4th at the HemisFair Arena in San Antonio, TX Jim Duggan vs. Sgt. Slaughter Southwest Tag Team Titles: The Rock N Roll Express vs. The Assassins Southwest Heavyweight Title: Roy Lee Welch vs. Tully Blanchard David Von Erich vs. Mr. Saito Ken Lucas & Eddie Gilbert vs. Yin & Yang El Gran Apollo vs. The Cuban Assassin Southwest Television Title: Man Mountain Link vs. Mike Masters Ron Sexton & Pat Rose vs. Larry Hamilton & Steve Pardee Ron Starr vs. Goldie Rogers -
One of the best territory tropes was a heel talking over arena footage with the announcer. Bonus points for him complaining about the babyface using punches and other "illegal tactics"
