  1. My God, I'm salivating at the ideas I could have with Steamboat vs. TNT. I hope this is only the beginning. I know Savio is green here, but even as a rookie he was already leaps and bounds better than most rookies. Would be some fun matches for him to cut his teeth and really hone his craft. Could it be? Will we see a Private Scorpio in our future? Wishful thinking for the young guy who needs the rub. Fun 6-man. Classic Bockwinkel, even when cheating he does it with eloquence. What a great pairing of Bock vs. Chavo. If anyone was going to have a team called the Unit I figured it would be Robert Fuller (bah-dum-bum). Looking across the ring at their opponents I figured this match was only going to end one way. The right team won. Good stuff. Bummer for Tanaka. Zenk will make a good champion. The Sheepherders actions were heelish. Love the hodgepodge style team of Adams and Garvin. Not a team you got to see in real life, but it works here in fantasy as together they offer a little bit of everything. A tough match for sure that Piper and Orton got lucky to escape. I'm not crazy about the Cactus and Sabu stuff here in 1986. Just feels a little early to showcase these guys. But I'm absolutely loving everything else.
  2. After 80 some odd pages of discussion it looked to be time to create a new General Chatter Thread for easier navigation through current events and issues pertaining to the 1983 Project league. It's okay to create new threads every now and then. After some recent requests, it's been decided it's time to address a few things to help organize the league and get things trending back into the right direction as we head into the fall of 1986. Let's get back to having FUN around here! Below I will be addressing a few things I'm sure everyone is curious about. I look forward to everyone getting involved in the chatter!
  3. Bubba Douglas passed away earlier in 1986.
  4. Thoroughly enjoyed the opening match. A solid match that you might expect to see in UWA Mexico or Japan. I wouldn't mind seeing more from these 6, in tag matches or singles mixing it up. Excellent group of talent to give the fans a taste of the international flavor. Graham certainly has a good argument after Tiger stole the victory here. After the high impact opener it made sense to slow things down here in a more methodical style of match. I love me some PYT's as much as the next guy, but I just can't see Norvell power slamming the gargantuan Kareem Muhammad circa 86. Ray Candy was one big man by the mid 80's. Looking forward to reading the double main if you continue forward with this territory. Both matches sound exciting.
  5. I think it could be a little of both. Certainly the booking can always be looked at, especially in those instances. Vince refused to let either guy get over and do much of anything worthwhile while with Paul. Curtis Axel's "finisher" during that run seemed to be winning matches by count out. That'll put butts in the seats.
  6. Hey guys, as acting moderator of the fantasy forum I had hoped to have a new thread up here by tomorrow night for some fun discussions about the reorganization of some of the threads and whatnot, but I felt it wise to make a post here first to prevent any more decisions from being hastily made without going through the proper channels. To prevent anyone from making any hasty decisions without any time to really process the circumstances that have recently transpired, it is my decision to FREEZE the rosters of the writers who have recently relinquished their positions. Those territories include the WWF, WCCW, and Lutte Internationale. This is a short term temporary move and is only being done to ensure everyone a fair shake. Everything should be sorted within the next 24 - 48 hours and by then we should know what is going on with these rosters. The very first thing I'd like to do is ask those writers who left to please think things over and maybe contemplate returning to their writing positions. As it stands, with the league President quitting, no one writer currently has the authority to disperse a roster or hand the roster to a new writer. I support this league's "majority vote" style of decision making, but things should still be given more than a moments notice before simply moving on. I feel everyone here has good intentions, but rushing to make these types of decisions could prove to be disastrous to the league over the long haul. That said, I really look forward to hearing from all of you and getting some feedback as we get the older threads more organized and get all of the currently relevant threads in a nice tidy area for easy access.
  7. I loved that combo of Orndorff and Link. Also like seeing Polynesian Power here. Good stuff. About 9 years ago I was crazy enough to turn my top heel (Rip Oliver) in a Portland territory baby face. This is the first time since then that I've seen someone else use the Crippler in such a position. Loved it here in the main event. Good positioning for Paul Jones as well. Sheiky baby throwing powder? I thought he'd be snorting it. Tony "Simply the Best' St. Clair, eh??? I Like It!
  8. Good old ESPN, covering "Sportsball" at it's best! God help me, I actually like Cpl. Scott Hall. It just works. The youth movement is real here in the AWA. Nord is just a monster. You'd never see Greg Gagne treated like this in real life. If you ever saw a Nord match in the 80's you'd know he was absolutely reckless and borderline unsafe in the ring. You captured him well here. Seeing Piper with the Sheeps brings back Portland memories of the beginning of the 80's. A wild match as I expected. Sunshine fits well here. Glad she's in a good spot.
  9. Another stacked roster with quality workers. Intriguing tag teams here in the AWA as well. Not a big Tom Zenk guy. I did enjoy his WCW run (sans the Johnny Gunn stuff), but here in 1986, I just don't know if I'd like to see him go 30 with Steamboat, or buy it even with a decent string of wins here. Lots of super young guys getting big pushes here, curious to see where many of them go. I'm excited for many of them, but some of them are going to be a hard sell for 1986, but with your writing I'm sure you can get some of these guys over years before they would "make it" in real life. Exciting roster here for the AWA, essentially the opposite of what Verne was using in real life which ultimately led to his demise. So you already have that much up on the real life Verne and AWA in 1986.
  10. Given my history with putting out so much of the WWC 1980's content that is out there on video, I obviously find WWC a pleasure to read. Especially with someone doing it justice like right here with dawho5. The roster is spot on for WWC, a good mix of local island talent and other talent that has history of ties to the territory. Of course you add a few additional names and it makes for a good concoction of fantasy story telling while staying true to the feel of the real life promotion. Good to see Chicky Starr causing all kinds of trouble here. A must have for 1980's WWC fantasy writing IMO. Glad you have him in a prominent role. Great feel for the territory. Fun stuff.
  11. A stacked roster at every turn. Never a dull segment with a roster this stacked. Always something going on. Multiple Russian sickles? Yikes! Sounds like Mr. Hendricks will be forced into retirement!
  12. Excellent work grasshopper! Enjoy reading the stuff here in Mid-Atlantic. Hansen, Fernandez and Rude is a scary thing, but I just can't see the original ultimate warrior, Bad News Allen accepting help from an uncle Tom and a beer bellied sharecropper. See what I did there? DiBiase vs. Snuka made a great match. I'm a little bummed to see Ted rocking the Million Dollar Man gimmick earlier in his career, only because I feel he was still on top of his game as a worker in 86 and didn't need the gimmick. It enhances a heel character though so it does work. I just liked the hard working DiBiase from mid-80s All Japan and MId-South/UWF. However, this being 1986, you can do a little more with a character driven wrestler storyline wise. I enjoyed your amazing creativity in NWAR, your ability to get the most out of even the smallest things. You continue to shine and thrive here. Enjoying the make shift teams, something else you've done a good job in making work well.
  13. I'm torn between the last two pages of dialog here about the JYD. While I like how he was used here and love the DiBiase and Bundy deal on this page. The page prior to this seems to indicate that Dog was fizzled out by 1986. Which raises two questions. If this is fantasy, why are we basing things off of how he was booked in WWF land for the 84-86 period. JYD left MSW on top in 84 IRL, and was questionably the second hottest face behind Hogan early on in his WWF run. I tend to believe that it was partially Hogan's doing to keep the JYD from getting TOO over. Of course, add Dog's own demons and body shape to that as well. Dog was over like rover, no pun intended in 1985, and even into 1986. He can lose and save face, like here against Bundy and Ted, I don't think I'd personally book a rookie over him though. Lots of times people think if they book stars to job to rookies that it will get the rookie over, but more times than not it's the opposite and backfires. It's been proven through history. Without a build to take the rookie seriously, it really doesn't work and fans tend to revolt. Knowing what Luger will/would become it's a little more digestible. Also, with it being in Atlanta vs. New Orleans the fans wouldn't have rioted nearly as much. But still I think I would have given Luger a little more of a track record to get that win. I'm sure if the JYD is on his way out he will still be utilized somewhere. 1986 JYD still has legs to stand on, he had a tremendous charisma and matches with Terry Funk in 86. And while you can credit Funk for the bumping, it takes two to tango!
  14. One of my favorite reading materials here on PWO. I love the choice of territory going out of the common zone, I like the make shift roster that feels true to the spirit of your booking, and I like that you keep it true to your area as well. The creativity of things like the BattleBowl exhibition. Makes sense, seems like simple booking, but it's things like this that adds that extra special feeling to things in the realm of fantasy reading. Gets the reader more excited for things to come. If this becomes your final shows that is truly unfortunate, for readers like me. Enjoyable stuff.
  15. SNME is shaping up to be more of a PPV than a SNME. Look at that stacked card! Love the use of the multiple TV programs. As necessary as Superstars is, I always like it when someone is able to utilize Prime Time. It has a fond place in my heart and I wish they'd dump the rest of them on the Network. Herc apparently turns on Roma which for 1986 I agree with. While Herc became stale on his own by 1990, he's primed and ready for a big run here in 1986 without the aid of the young Roma. Hoping somehow we see that cage match play out.
  16. I think the entire Gilbert & Hyatt vs. Street & Linda stuff is gold. I don't think I've ever seen this play out in fantasy land before. Really good stuff. Dusty dealing with the Kamala brothers is pretty cool stuff. They may wind up with the Dream's head on a spear and use the bounty money to make a fire. You know, because tribal savages aren't aware of what currency is. Funk and Adonis, ANOTHER dream match for me. These guys could wrestle every stipulation for months and it wouldn't get old for me. Muta looked STRONG coming out of the elimination match. I felt the revenge match between Olympia and Arcidi could have used a sentence or two of detail, simply because I'm a stickler for knowing the finish. Would love to see how Olympia put down the musclebound monster. Really creative stuff here.
  17. Sorry to see some form of drama (as Edger referenced) be the cause of several good writers stepping our of their positions. Have enjoyed reading all of your hard work as time has permitted me. Whether it's long timers I've known like the great Gene Jackson, or guys I've met in recent years like LowBlow, or even guys I feel I did my best to help hone their craft in this hobby like Spaldoni and Kevin before they made it here to PWO. I've enjoyed all of your guys creativity. I certainly hope everyone continues to show off their writing talents in some form.
  18. You never disappoint with your TV. Love La Lutte!
  19. Good use of Foley this early in his career. A perfect character for him. "Special Forces" Bundy is also an awesome name! lol The finish to the Atlas/Wahoo match felt almost like a squash. That was pretty shocking to read how Tony disposed of the Chief. Look at the names in both the TV and house show main events... Quite the stacked roster, and good use as well of many of the talents that weren't necessarily major stars. I'm a British Steel guy for sure...
  20. Lots of stuff going on, hard to keep up with everything. Love the breakdown to help things out. Really fun stuff... Big Rat pack fan, hope they don't split!
  21. I'll agree Gordy vs. Garvin will be great, but for me MX vs. Sheepherders is going to tear the house down... Nothing better than mid 80's southern tag team "rasslin"
  22. I'd totally make the 90 minute drive to Columbus for that, yet I won't make the 15 minute drive to the Q for WWE, so think about that for a minute! lol
  23. D'Artagnan, love it! Happy to see Gilles Poisson get a push. Very authentic feel to the territory between many of the stars being used and just the flow of the TV... Very enjoyable read every time I stop through...
  24. Haven't had the pleasure to read any of your fantasy work in years Jesse, not since you wrote a Japan fed for my old league many years ago. This is a completely different direction and shows A. you know your 80's which is always great, and B. your creativity is off the charts. Great description and fun to be had. Love the Royal Samoans, but the Wasps were pretty fun too (love their description). The names are absolutely awesome. Tex Hightower rocks lol. Amadeus, Valiant!, Hawk Grissom. Lots of fun stuff going on.
  25. The plot thickens! Looking forward to seeing it play out.
