  1. Love the "local guys" vs. "living legends" theme of that TV show. Legend wins - Legend wins - Local guy wins is the perfect way to book that, too.
  2. If the KOTR in 1985 had gone like that in "the real world" it absolutely would have been my favourite show ever. Great 80s WWF booking!
  3. Probably lots of "D-Generation X" in promos between 1997 and 2000, and also 2006-7 and 2009-10
  4. How did you convince Mascaras to do the job? I bet that was a hell of a match!
  5. Send them for a tour with New Japan later... they can be hated on two continents!
  6. That was a sick bump
  7. I got kinda down-in-the-dumps watching Taz vs. Angle (thinking about how Angle apparently became a pain killer addict and how poorly Taz(z) was used after his huge debut) and Cactus vs. HHH (thinking about how many unnecessary risks these performers took and continue to take to entertain us) and it would have been easy to do the same here (just consider how many of these guys are no longer with us). But... ... I got a kick out of seeing guys I haven't thought about in years, like Test, Steve Blackman, and Too Cool. I got a kick out of how JR enunciated names like Grand master Sex-Ay and RAW-Kishi. I got a kick out of seeing all those dudes with really long hair. I enjoyed the whole Rikishi/Too Cool comedy spot. I got a kick out of Chyna eliminating Jericho. I enjoyed comparing this years Rumble with the 2000 Rumble and having to admit that WWE have gotten better over the years at making sure there is some story being told or some little entertaining spot going on at every stage of the Rumble. So, even this one dragging in the middle gave me something kind of interesting to think about. I pretty much feel better now.
  8. Man... Watching Foley take completely unprotected chair shots to the head ranks right up there with watching Misawa get dropped on his head and watching Benoit pay tribute to Dynamite Kid in the "Stuff I once loved about pro wrestling that has since become stuff I hate about pro wrestling" department. I just could not enjoy this match at all, this time around.
  9. Way to put over a new guy in his debut. He looked like a monster here, tossing an undefeated former gold medalist around the ring. I think what they should eventually do is job him out to Triple H and then stick him behind the announcer's desk. That seems like it would be the best way to build on this amazing debut. I don't know, maybe that extra "z" they added to his name just weighed him down too much.
  10. Inoki at WrestleMania! Looking forward to reading about that.
  11. My choice for all time greatest pro wrestling match is Giant Baba vs Billy Robinson (AJPW, 1976)
  12. Nice work building up Hacksaw vs. Hacksaw, Sarge vs Snuka, etc. Looking forward to reading what happens next.

  14. Was this on the same card with that match building up the Atlantis vs. III feud? What a night of wrestling for those fans! I love how the heel beat-down just goes on and on and on until you are feeling sick for the Technicos and just dying for them to make any kind of comeback. Too much recent wrestling is over-reliant on interviews and sketches to get dudes over as heels. Los Infernales are so very much more effective getting the idea across by their cruelty in the ring. This is how, say, the Wyatt Family should be wrestling... but I guess it's too important to keep the good guys looking "cool." World needs more Ricky Mortons and Tsuyoshi Kikuchis... and Tarzan Boys.
  15. Nice use of "The Rocket" and "Knuckles" Nilan!
  16. Buddy Rose vs. Doug Somers should be really good if they match up as part of that feud.
  17. That Piper promo was perfect. Nice line-up for KOTR!
  18. That's quite a TV main event, and I like where it seems to be headed.
  19. I pity Greg Gagne. Imagine Mike Shaw sitting on you.
  20. I had NO IDEA Nagurski was born in Canada! I have always felt there were a lot of parallels between Nagurski and Kiniski: Athletic and charismatic football players with great tough-guy faces who were respected enough that the "real" wrestlers were willing to put them over in important matches. It's cool to learn that they are both from my home country as well.
  21. I'm a pretty casual viewer of the Mexican Pro Wrestling but there are a handful of matches that I dearly love and have watched more than once. That famous cybernetico that Felino won, for example, or that legendary three-way with Casas and Dandy after The Heel Turn, When Worlds Collide... You know, exactly what you'd expect people in the early days of tape trading to remember. There were two Atlantis matches, also: v Blue Panther and v Villano III. The Villano III match, along with some Rey-or-Benoit-in-Mexico type stuff was what I'd show friends who had never seen Real Mexican Wrestling before. The WWF Guy Working the Lucha Style stuff was an obvious gateway... but really Atlantis v Villano III was the best way I have found to get wrestling fans I know to watch some lucha. Why? It's such a heated, bloody brawl.and those guys just obviously hated each other so much... Anyone can "get it" I love that match. I had no idea the build up to it was so heated, so good, and so long-term! Makes sense, considering the match, but it's new information to me. It's one of the things I have learned already by participating in the PWO2K project. Amazing stuff, and really enlightening for a casual fan like me.
  22. In the intro, Mr. Carpentier said: "One would think, Guy, that the choice would be easy for the winner and they’d go right away for the NWA World Tag Team Championship held by the Rougeaus but you also have to take into account that many teams in Mid-Atlantic are already gunning for the Rougeaus so the Sheepherders would have to possibly wait in line for that title shot." That's what I mean when I say he accidentally gave away the finish.
  23. Thanks for promoting the NJPW Tag Festival! Did you notice that Mr. Carpentier accidentally gave away the finish to the #1 Contenders match during the introduction of the show?
  24. Love the ending of that Battle Royal.
  25. That's probably true.
