  1. Roddy Piper has been talking about starting up a podcast on Twitter. Whether it's genius or a car wreck, it'll be interesting to listen to.
  2. That whole thing makes me wonder about Bret's position in the company if/once they all get their pink (possibly written in black ink) slips. A small, very cynical part of me is thinking all the forgiving he's done has been a work to get them in good graces with Vince.
  3. All due respect, seeing Flair in ECW would have been like listening to Dark Side Of The Moon on a gramophone.
  4. To counterpoint this, I always thought it was a bit funny that WWE split The Rockers up right as grunge was exploding. I don't think one thing had to do with another, but the irony of it never was lost on me.
  5. Makes sense. I don't remember watching a lot of Superstars or Challenge in '94 since USA had two other shows on the weekend (and in my particular case, on more reasonable hours).
  6. I thought they got rid of this segment after Jake locked the coffin on Taker's hand for some reason.
  7. Apologies if this has been covered, but has he ever worked heel?
  8. Her voice can be heard 6:08 in.
  9. Cornette really knew how to push his audience's buttons. An Atheist manager, a black "gangsta" tag team, and a smart-mouthed blonde who idolized Hillary Clinton (no doubt if done today, it would be Michelle Obama).
  10. Granted, Bret and Owen weren't going to win any Oscars for what they tried to capture, but it put a nice lid on both Bret's long turn and the feud between Owen and Davey Boy.
  11. I never liked the "10-count with both guys down in the ring" which I squarely blame Stallone for because it's quite obvious the spot was taken from the Rocky movies.
  12. I'm assuming '97 (and/or '91) is coming next, but the reconciliation between the two is one of the most genuinely moving moments in WWE's history.
  13. I would imagine this was a big part of the reason for making it illegal, not so much for wrestling but other athletics like Football and Baseball.
  14. Rock said on his Twitter today that he was shooting a fight scene for Pain & Gain with...Kurt Angle
  15. They certainly mentioned him quite a few times around this time, maybe starting with this interview. And from what I remember, one of the Apter mags (most likely PWI) had done an article featuring pictures of Flair with Hogan and Jimmy Hart in late '93. He legit didn't sign with them until June, but Bischoff must have been pretty confident they were going to make a deal to let people drop his name on television.
  16. And that's only 80% of the original size. I dare not click on it
  17. Wasn't Tony Halme fired for wanting to do Die Hard With A Vengeance?
  18. I'm guessing it isn't Triple H.
  19. Watching this again, there's a chair shot Sags gives Payne, a really nasty (no pun intended) shot with a folding chair that's folded out that still makes me wince.
  20. At least he was an athlete. No better example of that statement than Jay Leno twisting Hogan's arm at a biker rally on PPV. Just as an aside, and since I can't be bothered to make a thread of it's own out of it, is it fair to say this might be the worst WrestleMania ever?
  21. Montreal? Joking aside, I could even tell at the time as a ten year old mark this was meant to be Bret's big coming-out as the new face of the company. Why they didn't commit to him in the long haul is beyond me, because for all his faults he was as close to perfect a guy they needed at the time to counter the public's image of roided-out monsters.
  22. Agreed. Part of what I meant by bringing Heyman back is that my impression of this feud is that it's another David/Goliath thing for Cena. Brock doing ten minute back-and-forths with Laurinitis squashes that image completely. It just makes him look like another heel. Even the behemoths who were also good on the mic had managers. Vader with Harley Race, Bundy with Heenan, Earthquake with Jimmy Hart, all of them were doubly effective at being monsters for having those guys and in essence knowing when to shut up and look menacing in promos.
  23. Funny little trend on Twitter right now, #WWECoverBands. So far I have Legion Of Doom Metal, Barry Windham Hill Records, Simply Red Bastien and One Man James Gang.
  24. Jim Ross is really weird on commentary here, hinting that Jose may have had a heart attack and pimping the UK dates as the show comes to a close. I love that Sid just straight up hugs Vladimir as he walks out.
