Is TNA the worst wrestling promotion in history?
flyonthewall2983 replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
I never thought I would lose respect for someone who gave so much to what he loved, and made it something a lot of people loved, and in the process becoming a rightly beloved personality himself. If just to defend her reputation to the countless online trolls who will tear into her anyway, what he said is still indefensible. -
Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard
flyonthewall2983 replied to Lust Hogan's topic in Publications and Podcasts
I'm listening to the Russo show. Getting major douchechills listening to excerpts from that landmark of written word that is his auto-biography, but hearing Bruce bring it all down to reality is worth it. -

I thought it'd be funny if this was a Burns/Mattingly-type situation but that's much more funny to me for some reason. -
What about Kevin Sullivan?

Glad they're doing this fast. They just want to get them on there and be done with it.

[1997-09-01-WCW-Nitro] NWO Four Horsemen Parody
flyonthewall2983 replied to Loss's topic in September 1997
The bad taste in my mouth was that it mocked his very serious injuries that went almost beyond ending his in-ring career. He said the pain after one of his operations was so bad he wanted to kill himself. What gets me is that Kevin Nash, obviously no stranger to major injury himself, didn't balk at it. Hard as it is to imagine after what I've said before and am here, but I don't put as much of the blame on the people who performed the skit anymore than I do someone like Bischoff who took much more glee in doing asinine things like giving away the competition's results and almost depleting ECW of their whole roster. In light of the friction he would have with Flair the following year, it's no surprise that he let this go to air with the full knowledge the NWO would go over at War Games, and putting the final nail in the coffin of that gimmick match. But of course, it doesn't really matter now because it didn't erase Arn's stature or anyone else this supposedly buried. His legacy, in large part to the integral role he plays in WWE now, is set in stone. And when I hear stories like about how Nash offered to drive Flair home once after a show, and someone like Schiavone (who I guess has a neck injury himself?) who thinks of it as he does, It makes me realize what do I know, since I don't know the people center to this. The bottom line is that I never really go for humor that makes light of those who can't defend themselves, and I may take it to a highly sensitive degree. -

Random Reasons why people stopped watching wrestling
flyonthewall2983 replied to Strummer's topic in Pro Wrestling
My consumption rate was maybe half an hour or more of Raw when the Benoit stuff happened. I was hooked on the cable news coverage of it after and joke that I probably watched more wrestling on MSNBC than anywhere else. I had to stop at a certain point, it was getting to be a bit too much for me. -
Is there any available footage of WWWF in the 60's?

A little off-topic but Larry Zybysko looks like Marshall Applewhite now.

Mike Von Erich after surviving the toxic shock syndrome would probably have him beat. I read a rumor once that Billy injected himself with Clorox on a bet.

Pointless to speculate now, but I think if HHH hadn't been involved in the finish, it would have not been as hot as an issue it became. -

I agree with your thoughts here in that it is very believable that security could have been a concern and it's no great feat to see death threats coming from overly patriotic folks. However if there was any possible chance of them selling out or even putting a large crowd into the LA Colosseum then they would've definitely went through with holding the show and having heightened security there just for the sake of a larger gate and the tremendous ego stroke/publicity of putting thousands of asses into the Colosseum. Bruce Prichard said they asked the gov't for extra security and brought up how they basically did it for free at the Super Bowl. WWF asked for the same thing and were denied. I'm not quite sure I believe that unless the bubble Vince and those guys lived in was fully formed at this point. Just my opinion deducted from what I heard and what I believe, but If they thought more realistically they could have just gotten as good of security from the LAPD and the State Police for a better price to them. Granted, that's all on if they really did sell the Coliseum out which I don't believe they did at all which prompted the move to the Sports Arena. I don't know the history of how well they did in California in general at this time, but it's not surprising to me that they didn't do the number there that they would have gotten in 90 and 92 (inflated of course, but still big houses compared to VII). -

The issue of WrestleMania VII in the LA Coliseum reared it's head again somewhere online. I may have spoken on this before here, but I actually believe that they both couldn't sell the place out, and that there were genuine security issues, relative to the Slaughter angle. I can see a guy phoning or writing in death threats after seeing someone appear to side with the enemy on television. Doesn't have to be a mark, but someone overly patriotic, screwed in the head or likely both. Whether or not they had the capacity or inclination to carry out something is another issue entirely, but I can see it happening. -

I have to admit it's funny, that considering Vince's animosity towards Ted Turner, the thing that gets him the most attention in years is the CNN logo super-imposed over his face.

The Attitude Era is full of those moments. I have no shame in saying I hated what they did then as far as that stuff, as much as I cringe looking back at it.

Quite honestly, I wish they'd just release everything on the Network and put out stuff on Blu and DVD less and less. Maybe make those releases more special, like box sets of stuff, etc, etc. That's just wishful thinking though, but I do think there will be less a reliance on physical products in the future, especially if the Network does well enough.

Did Bruno ever work heel? -
Positive. When the card starts it says it's from 12/77 on top. I'm using an Amazon Fire TV stick so it could just be limited to that, unless it's been corrected by now.
