Linda McMahon in consideration to head up the Small Business Administration

Tatanka losing his undefeated streak to Ludvig Borga might have ruined his momentum into being a top babyface. He was out for awhile and didn't do anything of note until the feud with Lex Luger where he turned heel. Not sure if he could have gone further even if it hadn't ended that way, but I think that was the moment he was bound for mid-card status forever.

Things are a little different now. By purchasing Marvel and Lucasfilm, they've narrowed the focus a bit and are seemingly less concerned with putting out the kind of films they did with Touchstone (which may very well released it's last movie this year) and helping invest in what Miramax did. I think about the only thing they have left that isn't at least partially aimed at a young audience are ABC's original prime-time dramas. But as it was in the 90's, I could have seen them get in the wrestling game. ECW, even owned by the same Disney company that helped bring Pulp Fiction and Michael Bay to the masses, would have been considerably watered down. They probably would have just wound up doing with it what WCW was essentially doing around this time, remaking itself in the WWF's image.

Another Mulholland Drive connection, the guy who played the hitman was Rip's brother in No Holds Barred. -
Random Reasons why people stopped watching wrestling
flyonthewall2983 replied to Strummer's topic in Pro Wrestling
Does anyone know of anyone else who quit watching because of the Rock n Wrestling-era WWF? Surely (depending where in the US they were) they had several other options to watch, but I wonder if there were fans so disillusioned by that stuff that they quit it entirely. -
Random Reasons why people stopped watching wrestling

I started watching in early '92, and by late '94 I was getting bored with it. The honeymoon period of Hogan in WCW had worn off, and by the next spring (coupled by a major family catastrophe) I was not as interested anymore. I really hadn't paid attention until early the next year I picked up one of the Apter mags and learned about WCW Monday Nitro and how Lex Luger defected. I started watching bit by bit again in the winter of '96, and was hooked to the Monday Night Wars until the very end. Once WWF became the only game in town, my interest started to fade. I kept watching because of either routine or I was living with my brother who was still a super-fan. I even went to a ROH show in 2007, but I couldn't tell you who was on the card. It's to the point now where I'll watch maybe WrestleMania or something else if a name I liked comes back. -
What's really interesting to me about this Rumble is that it must be the only one that's never had a super-heavyweight type come in and be a focus of it until he's eliminated in spectacular fashion, or in the case of what happened the following year, wins the match. I think the heaviest guy in the whole match was the Warlord.

Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard
flyonthewall2983 replied to Lust Hogan's topic in Publications and Podcasts
This week's episode of The Ric Flair Show is essentially an extra episode of Something to Love, as Ric wasn't able to record and Bruce fills in, talking to Conrad about Flair's run with the WWF. -

The Pillman episode had a couple things I didn't know before, like the big TV conference in Las Vegas both WCW and WWF had representatives at where Pillman went over to the WWF spot and hung out for a bit. Vader is the topic for this coming Friday's episode, somewhat timely given the recent news he's given about his health. -
[1997-10-06-WWF-Raw] Interview: Melanie Pillman
flyonthewall2983 replied to Loss's topic in October 1997
Listening to the recent episode of the Bruce Prichard show about Pillman's time in the WWF, and I gather that there was somewhat of a good reason for doing this. I guess she was being bombarded by requests for interviews from other media outlets but gave it to Vince because she knew he'd pay her back for it. Still doesn't make it any less disgusting on Vince's part, he could have given her a couple weeks to grieve to do it at least. -

Oh dear I hope he gets his stuff in order, and that he is in top consideration for the WWE Hall of Fame's class of 2017. I hope it's something that can be resolved for his and his family's sake.

In David Lynch's Mulholland Drive, you can see someone wrote "WWF" in graffiti during a scene early on. -

There's one from Jim Ross at the Royal Rumble '97 that I remember from watching it live and watching it today I still get a kick out of it, after Lawler asks him if he takes pleasure in the misfortunes of others: "Selectively, yes".

Is TNA the worst wrestling promotion in history?
flyonthewall2983 replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
WWE doing anything with TNA's library seems strange to me. It's mostly because they never recognized them as competition unlike they did for WCW. With the exception of people like Samoa Joe, Styles and others who weren't in WWE before, it would feel as if every Hollywood studio started buying up DVD rights to all the Bollywood versions of their movies and put them out in North America, with regard to WWE trying to market that library to their audience that wouldn't have been otherwise familiar or would have cared about TNA. -

The Monday-morning quarterback in me thinks Vince must have watched Live Aid and got the inspiration for it from that. Vince does have these big ideas, but if you scratch the surface a little it seems like it's always borrowed from something else. I think it's why they still celebrate the Attitude Era, because for once they were a little ahead of the curve in terms of pop culture.
