Reigns that really hurt or devalued a title
Victator replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Megathread archive
Backlund was treated like the top guy on the WWF Mania that aired the day of the MSG show where he lost the title. They acted like he was going to be champion for awhile and that he was negotiating with Ted Dibiase to be his manager. -
Sting only spent 2 years in a company as successful as WWE has been over the last decade. I'm not a big proponent now on Batista or Edge, but someone deserves credit besides Cena. They are maintaining an already successful healthy promotion. Big difference than being the guy keeping WCW or worse yet TNA from oblivion. WWE's numbers were heading the wrong way from 2001-2004. They ran a few MSG shows that drew in the 4,000-5,000 range, and it overall seemed like a company that was fading and didn't have any answers. They got new life and several big years when they elevated Cena and Batista and other guys like Orton and Edge started clicking with the audience. Sting drew the biggest buyrate WCW ever did and was a big part of one of the biggest angles in wrestling history. That trumps anything Edge or Batista have ever done.

They need to run a "What?" lottery. Pick one random person saying "What?" and stab them. -
Just pointing out guys like Batista and Edge did not have to deal with what he did. The guy who not only finished the race carrying a sack of rocks but placed pretty high is impressive.

[1992-04-05-WWF-Wrestlemania VIII] Hulk Hogan vs Sid Justice

I really enjoyed the Mable casket match. Mable took some sick bumps for 500 pounder. -

The Summerslam 95 match was good. Watched it a few months ago on Taker's second dvd set. -

Bret drew better than anybody else did on house shows between Hogan and Austin. -

Shane Douglas ECW title reign in 1998 did serious damage to the ECW title. He was injured most of the year and made at most five televised title defenses. You have Taz calling Douglas a paper champion and being nearly 100% correct in this. He creates a bogus title and headlines PPVs and house shows defending it. Meanwhile the TV title is gaining more and more value. Douglas should of beaten Taz cleanly at Guilty as Charged. At least then when Taz eventually got the belt it would not be by beating a paper champion. Or better yet have Taz or Sabu win the belt in May instead if dragging it out. I think the biggest flaw with ECW's booking then was dragging shit out. -
He is over and usually has good matches. Though fuck him for drunk driving.

Dusty Rhodes You should have made it a point to get both of em daddy. Don't just get one. Don't take one limb. Don't take one arm. Don't take one ear and don't take one eye. If Sting has to carry me on his back, damn it all. If he has to drag me in a wagon. I'm breathin, you hear what I'm sayin. You should of got it done!!! Its violence for the sake of violence!!! Now I will turn it around!!! To my violence!!! My lightning bolt!!! My fire!!! My thunder!!! An eye for an eye...

NWA had the Midnights/Fantastics series of matches. The Barry Windham heel turn which produced a lot of good stuff. The Varsity Club and The Roadies heel turn. The NWA Main Event premiere had a great six man tag with Flair,Arn and Tully vs Sting, Luger and Windham. The WWF had Hogan/Bigelow vs Andre/Dibiase tags in Boston and Philly. the Savage/Dibiase feud. The Bret/Bad News Brown feud. The Rockers debuting and doing really good work with the Rogueaus and Conquistidors. Demolition had matches with the Hart Foundation, Rockers and Bulldogs in MSG. Macho Man vs Andre in LA. AWA had the Kerry vs Lawler feud. This is all off the top of my head. With more thought I could find a ton of stuff.

ECW was having one of its best years in 97. That entire summer was the best period of booking the company ever had.

You can't just separate Raw from the rest of the product. Its there and it lowers the average considerably. Honestly a lot of the 80s TBS squashes are more entertaining than some of the competitive matches on Superstars and Smackdown.
-
I haven't really noticed. They have been changing angles for years. At least since the mid 90s.
-
Why is it not great? As for WWE, with all the shitty Raw episodes they pump out there is no way WWE can be thought of as the best in ring American promotion.

Flair referred to guys like Hansen, Brody and Vader as being safe to work with. But he did say they made you earn it. -
Rey's clearly the flippy flying dude. The real discussion is where he ranks overall.
-
Here I am fretting over an extra 40 bucks on my light bill.
-
In one night Rey had great matches with Miz and Cena. Its amazing when you realize the injuries he is dealing with.
-
How much money do they have to piss away on this?
-
They could a Triple Threat match at Vengence.

??? Punk challenged Nash, who had the security in his back pocket, not the other way around. (Unless your post was sarcastic.) I think I phrased this poorly. What I meant was the size difference between Punk and Nash was so great, the idea Nash needed protection from him looked ludicrous. As for the rest, Punk seems like a guy who rather talk than actually fight. Especially since he made no effort to get past security.

Well I mean that stuff is always awesome.
