  1. For a guy that was supposedly in a car wreck, Wolfie D sure is moving around good. An alright tv match but the ref bumps and turning off the lights gimmick was a bit OVW like. Not as bad but still a tad much. So begins the era of Wolfie D as champ before he turns into Slash.
  2. Wow that's Adam Pearce? I can't tell these guys apart but one of them takes some vicious bumps on the hardwood and in the bleachers. This was better than the Punk match but still pretty pedestrian.
  3. Punk somehow looked more backyard than the match with Cabana. This was pretty bad till the finish. Punk doing the Eddie Guerrero finish before Eddie.
  4. I didn't enjoy this as much as the other matches between these two teams but it was still good. Dragon looked superior while the Board of Education looked very indie. Spanky had some nice dives and the finish was good for guys leaving the territory. The turn was good too. That announcer was BAD tho.
  5. At first, this felt like Sabu vs two rookies and was kinda awkward. As the match went on, they started getting comfortable and it got good. Especially when Reil was eliminated. Ki's best match so far in 2000 as he looked on Sabu's level when it was 1 on 1. Sabu wasn't botchy sabu so that was nice. The ref in this match was very distracting though. Always out of place and trying to dodge getting hit.
  6. How can JAPW have a suicidal champion and it not be Sabu? Short and sweet match with Louie bleeding all over from the chairshots. It was weird how he put his hands to his face instead of over his head to block the shots. The finish was hilarious tho. All the punishment and it ends with powder and a roll up.
  7. This didn't work at all. It reminded me of that Rumble match from Wildside. Just too many people in too small of place. Also, way too much Rob harlem and his tiny gear. Power Pro had some decent talent like Derrick King, Ali, Lance Jade and Allan Steel but they had a lot of crap talent too. MCW was kicking Power pro's ass around this time so it's not surprising that they teamed up a couple months later.
  8. I thought this was pretty disappointing for a ladder match. AJ looked scared of the ladder and missed some of his moves which was understandable. Eddie Golden was alright and played his role good. It's just the match didn't feel like it got going. Even though the finish was botched, I really liked it. AJ drops the title and Eddie gets it. Didn't mind Jeff Bailey's interference.
  9. Angel Mortal is one of those older rudo guys who are basically around to get the younger tecnicos over. He does a hell of a job here with Oscar. Oscar bleeds a ton, so much that his outfit turns red. That overshoot tope was awesome for a match like this. The seconds get involved but don't hurt the match which is a plus. Oscar makes his comeback and wins the hair. I loved the end of the second fall with the towel tease. That was well done. Agree with loss in this being my AAA MOTY so far. Even better than the Apaches matches which I liked.
  10. This was pretty fun compared to the other mini's matches. Octagoncito and Mascarita were on a roll flying everywhere. I dug Parkita wearing sunglasses over his mask for his entrance. The run ins actually made sense and added to the match. Good match
  11. It's Toro Irrison, not El Texano that seconded Sangre Chicana. He had a feud with Garza in the summer and this was the start of it. I don't know what you guys were expecting but this was pretty normal for AAA. Lots of heat, not much wrestling, and lots of interference. Toro, in particular, gets a lot of heat for taking out Hector Garza's dad and TropiCasas. I enjoyed it for what it was.
  12. You know, you expect Zumbido to do crazy dives and bumps like a CMLL version of Psicosis. I did not expect Antifaz to out dive him. That dive he did in the second caida was nuts. This was a fun match with some motivated tecnicos and Guapos doing just enough to make this real good. Zumbido is just awesome and holds this together. Easily the most underrated guy in early/mid-2000s CMLL.
  13. Outstanding match. First, we start with an emotional Ray Mendoza/Villano 3 segment. After that is the match. Pierroth attacking Villano with a bat to the face and stomach to major heat was awesome. Even Atlantis is fired up going after shocker. Perro/mascara is a way better feud than Perro/Bestia. Second caida, the rudos get destroyed and the third fall is more of the same. Really liked Villano winning by being a rudo and having his feet on the ropes. Great stuff here intertwining 3 different feuds.
  14. Fun match that just kept going and going. I always like when the big two guys would go on indie shows and let it loose. Wagner was all schtick and Porky was mostly comedy but good comedy. Santo gets his mask ripped over and over again. They brawl into the crowd which seems insane to do in Tijuana. I don't understand the ending but I guess it was to set up Felino/Santo which is almost always good. Tijuana was in an upswing at the time leading to 2001 so the crowd was hot.
  15. Tournament lucha is the worst. However, this was a nice preview of what was to come years later with the Niebla rudo run .
  16. I had no idea former TNA wrestler Johnny devine wrestled in 2000. This was pretty bad and long although interesting to see Sabu in different places. Bad News Brown cracks me up calling people "sharecroppers" while Sabu is going through tables. Mauro was Mauro and that Teddy Hart wrestling school commercial was something else.
  17. Man this crowd loves some Perro Jr. They are electric for most everything. Especially when La Parka and Espectro go into the crowd. Perro nails Hector Garza with a plancha in the first fall to start the slow tease of the Hector rudo turn. Fun match but nothing you'll remember at the end of the day. WCW B-show match is very well put.
  18. I really dislike AAA cage matches. Not for the escapes, but for the guys that escape coming back in the ring. It's especially annoying during apuesta matches where a guy escapes yet still loses his hair when he reenters. This match was not that. It still wasn't good and cut off the tecnicos doing what they do best, flying. This match had some good rudos doing a beatdown and the tecnicos not adding much. Disappointing use of a cage.
  19. This being AAA, of course, they miss the best part of the match. That spinning splash by Octagoncito was impressive. The match was too short to really be impressive but they tried and it was mostly clean. I dig Abismo's super J cup shirt.
  20. CMLL playing off the famous Msacara 2000 beer bottle angle from AAA 1993 is weird. It wasn't as effective as back then but it did help Perro regain his breath. I didn't enjoy this because of the slowness and the constant cutaways to the woman and kid in the audience. Perro bleeds and Bestia loses when Perro crushes him with a double stomp. Perro works fine in tag matches around this time but he shouldn't be in singles matches.
  21. This was so well done. I usually hate these "rudos disagree and one turns tecnico but continues to team with the rudos" angles that CMLL does from time to time. They go on for so long that it loses meaning. This one, however, is great. Villano loses his mask and starts evaluating his career. Fuerza and the other rudos don't give a shit and want him to be more rudo. Then, when Villano says no they turn on him. It's been done for decades but few can do it as good as these guys. Pierroth was on another level. He's right up there with one of the greatest heels/rudos of all time in my book. The electric shock thing is not something you would expect in CMLL so when it's done, it means something. Outstanding angle and the match was fun too thanks to it.
  22. Just a great match. Panther can go on the mat when he wants to and santo is santo. Santo's dives were beautiful especially the one in the second fall that went into the crowd. This being Monterrey, you know a cheap finish is coming. My favorite thing about this match was how much the kids were into it. Only In Monterrey will you get kids coming into the rind during the match. Great performance by both guys. 2000 was a peak year for Monterrey wrestling.
  23. The Warrior/Wagner/Panther team was my favorite team when I was really getting into lucha in the early 2000s. They do a good job taking out the tecnicos with submissions and awesome double team work. However, the Tarzan boy botch overshadows the match to me. That was nuts and looked like it really hurt.
  24. Chad, I'm surprised you don't know Alushe. AKA Kemonito the CMLL mascot. This wasn't much as CMLL is finding it's way by doing a Perro Sr. last stand tour. Perro has an aura around him where even bad matches he's involved in have good moments. Like him and Bestia bleeding. Always nice to see Tinieblas Sr. He was 61 years old when this match happened and still taking bumps.
  25. Love me some old man Lucha. Atlantis is the youngest guy in this and he'd been wrestling for almost 20 years by the time this happened. The match was basically an angle for the Villano turn which is fine. Always enjoy seeing Gran Markus Jr. Porky doing a cartwheel got a pop out of me.
