True say. It's like all the pale imitations of a Flair stable in the 90's still had to be called the Horsemen. I think NWO2k could have worked minus all the injuries. a Hart-led group with Hall and Nash playing lieutenants and Jarrett and Steiner in supporting roles has the potential to be a very effective group. People who are saying that it would have been a Jarrett-led group are mis-remembering. The only reason it became a Jarrett-led group with The Harris Boys as his backup was because pretty much everyone dropped to injuries or other problems.

A company spokesman insists the company didn't screw Berbick over. Well, that settles that

I agree with goodhelmet. Spousal support seems like an antiquated notion in 2013. Ric's married to Jackie for less than 3 years at an advanced age no kids involved, and he owes her 4 grand a month? As John said, with Beth it's a little more complicated as she raised his children. I do agree with child support, even though Ric's kids are grown and Beth clearly has the means to re-train herself for the workforce is she chose to. Even if Ric should have known to get a pre-nup with Jackie, a bad law is a bad law.

We should just be happy she's not from Beaver Falls.

Is TNA the worst wrestling promotion in history?
Dooley replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
How is Hogan a money mark? He doesn't have anything invested. He's just collecting a cheque watching the promotion continue to circle the drain. -
I found this statement interesting as she seems to think invoking CTE is "explaining away" while she's pretty much doing the same thing by pointing the finger directly at steroids.

Has Nick Patrick ever come out and said if Hogan ordered him to abort the fast count at Starrcade 97? I can understand Bischoff not saying any more than what was in his book as he still has a financial tie to Hogan, but you'd think that Patrick would be able to open up about it 15+ years later.

Don't tar wrestling fans unfairly, football fans apply the same principle to OJ Simpson and his achievements. Chris Brown still sells millions of records despite his despicable crimes. People still love Phil Spector and praise his music despite the fact he was a murderer. Actors who have committed awful crimes still get praised. It isn't wrestling fans who do this, it is a good proportion of society. Find me the people on the anniversary of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman's murders that are tweeting #Remember2000yards. Find me the people who take the anniversary of Lana Clarkson's murder to look back fondly on the Wall of Sound. No? OK. Well, it's a little unique because it's also the day he died. Isn't that the point? He slaughters his family and all certain people want to remember about the day is "the world lost a great wrestler"?

Disgusting. And people wonder why most of the rest of society looks down on wrestling fans. It's not because of following a fake sport, it's because all too often they really do fit into the lowest common denominator stereotype.

It's a good match but Heyman on the outside constantly screaming "BRAAAAAAWK! BRAAAAAAWK!" completely takes me out of the match and ruins it for me. Much like Flair-Dusty from Starrcade 85 where that one asshole is "wooing" every freakin' 2 seconds. Just makes it impossible to enjoy for me.

[1991-11-27-WWF-Survivor Series] Hulk Hogan vs The Undertaker
Dooley replied to Loss's topic in November 1991
I've never bought that story just because it seems to stretch logic too much. Other than Hogan's head not coming anywhere near the chair, he's up in 30 seconds and just looks like he's selling. You'd also think if Taker botched the tombstone he'd have felt Hogan's head hit the chair. Plus Hogan did a promo later in the evening to hype Tuesday in Texas IIRC. Then there's the fact that he's showing no ill effects in the rematch 4 days later. It wasn't until years and years later that Hogan decided to add the Taker thing to his list of kayfabe injuries.- 13 replies

I thought that was Strongbow?

Neither man has a HOF career, but the TUF 1 finale was such a big part of the MMA boom that I don't have a problem with it. Meltz's comments are kind of ridiculous, but really par for the course for him in his MMA work.
-
Admitting he's not worthy of a Pulitzer doesn't make him any more aware of the glaring flaws in his writing than anyone on this board. It's like me admitting I may not be worthy of a Nobel Peace Prize. As I've said before: Meltz is the greatest pro wres journalist ever. That and 5 bucks gets you a grande latte at starbucks.

[1991-12-03-WWF-This Tuesday In Texas] The Undertaker vs Hulk Hogan
Dooley replied to Loss's topic in December 1991
I believe they started the gimmick of the lights going down during the Taker vs Taker match at SummerlSlam 94, for the real Undertaker only. They really began using light shows at WM 10. It was a bit before that. I remember they did it vs Giant Gonzalez at SS 93.- 15 replies

They ran actually ran some houses shows in Ontario back in 1990. They held a card at the Skydome in 1993 and drew decent crowd in 1997 in Montreal for Hogan vs Jacques Rougeau. I totally blanked on the Skydome show. According to Cawthon's site, there were less than 4,000 people in a a stadium that can hold 70,000. Yup. I had also blanked that the Hogan-Rougeau match happened on a proper WCW show, for some reason I had it in my head that it was a Rougeau-promoted indy show.

The Jim Ross Is A Grouchy Hateful Vile Human Being thread
Dooley replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
Hum... not exactly what I just saw. Ferrara was doing the Bell's Palsy face because it was JR's face........ So yeah, the Bell's Palsy face was not pretty, but when you're doing an impersonation it goes with the territory. No. No it doesn't. There's a line between ripping someone's announcing/work/general douchiness and then mocking their illness and subsequent facial paralysis. -
Berbick did come across as somewhat naive that he expected that rules would be followed when fighting a native son in Japan. Honestly, he should have just thrown caution to the wind and let fly on Takada. Even if that means we'd probably be talking about Takada in the past tense.

Bloat was my point. Modern cable forces shows to get tighter, at least in the sense of a Season. Series can still get bloated if they're popular and get stretched. The Sopranos was bloated and stretched long before the specifially stretched 6th season: it's one where you wish going into Season 4 they all agreed to wrap the thing in 13 episodes that year and were forced to tighten up the ship. Season 4 of The Sopranos moved a bit slow, but that's because it didn't have to move for anybody. Season 5 was great and would have been the perfect cap-off to the series.

Ok, but was it demonstrably better than '94 where they had Hogan and Flair headline?
-
So your only counter-argument to bookers being chosen based on box-office success is nepotism and cronyism?
-
Wasn't '97 where he was having his contract negotiation with Vince? IIRC from Foley's book, he didn't want to sign for less than Mero was getting, while Vince didn't want to give a major push to a guy without a long-term deal.

I read somewhere that security had chased some people away from one of the mics stationed in the arena, that may have been it. My favourite theory I've seen suggested is that it was the ghost of UFC 151 coming to take its revenge

You were the one who said Vince has a certain way of doing things. I'm actually agreeing on that point. I'm also saying Vince did a good job of protecting Hogan-Andre by not having it follow Savage-Steamboat. That's all fair. But you'll notice that in not a single one of those cards did he have to follow anything as good or even with the potential to be as good as something like Savage-Steamboat. Again, they were protected and no one got the feeling like they were outworked by the previous match or that the previous match felt more important. Summerslam- followed Jake and Hercules and a Boss Man-Koko squash Survivors - the entire show was basically a novelty County Park- followed Bravo and Patera Main Event - followed Savage-Honky, which had heat no doubt, but no one was ever going to mistake it for Savage-Steamboat You're really going to sit there with a straight face and compare Richter-Moolah to Savage-Steamboat? While it got a push due to the celebrity tie-in, women's matches have always been novelty matches in the WWF, a distraction before they get back to business. I think that example actually helps my point more than hurting it. You think a crowd would ever be burned out after a battle royal? While I like them, a lot of it is just watching guys stand around a lot. Again, a novelty tie-in with the football players before they go to the title match. I actually don't think we're that far apart on this. I'm just saying Vince protects his main events from being overshadowed and gives his crowds time to recharge. On that day, if Hogan-Andre had to follow Savage-Steamboat which was almost a consensus greatest WWF match ever among WWF fans at the time, Hogan-Andre might have suffered. Vince was smart to realize that and keep the two separated.
