I know Brock started it, but can we please use another term for a big push other than rocket up the ass?

I like the Rebirth Era, i dont quite consider it New Gen anymore to me thats more 92 to 94 maybe early 95. Late 95 to 97 had a totally different feel to it but wasnt quite attitude yet. It's still the New Generation era. WWF was actively promoting it as such in 95. Shawn won the Slammy in early '96 proclaiming him the leader of the New Generation. Seeds of the Attitude Era were planted in late '96 and by '97 they were off and running.

[1992-02-08-WWF-Superstars] Funeral Parlor: Ric Flair & Mr Perfect
Dooley replied to Loss's topic in February 1992
Totally agree. I have the same reaction when watching Brother Love segments. I don't know why they insisted on having background music for those segments. Imagine how much worse Piper's Pit would be with bagpipes playing in the background. -
Bonus points if you can work in "meaningless depth".

I have a feeling you don't know what those words mean and just heard them on Maury or something. Thanks for your medical opinion, Doc. Even if we take what you say at face value about meds and therapy, why are you cheering the decision to cut her off from such treatment? The company put it in writing that they would fund such treatments for ex-talent. She's taking advantage of what was offered by her former employer in an attempt to fight her addictions and improve her life. What a bitch. If what she is saying that WWE is cutting expenses in this area simply because Linda lost the election and there's no longer a political upside to doing it, then she has a right to be upset. Also, tell me the difference between her situation and Scott Hall's other than Hall is HHH's old running buddy. I'm not even a fan of Tammy's really, but there was a whole lot of "wow" in that post.

Name of the movie is Barbed Wire City. Premiere is set for April 20th in Philly Of course they'd premiere it on 4/20.

Isn't that the one where Nash opens a beer with a crowbar and asks "is that not the greatest thing you've ever seen in your life"? If so, I can't hate on that.

[1991-02-24-WWF-Wrestling Challenge] Interview: Sgt. Slaughter & Gen. Adnan

Well if we're counting DLJ, who was born stateside but is a Canadian citizen, the same would apply to Carpentier no?
-
Whipper Watson is a guy that really suffers from lack of footage. Dude's a king around these parts, was popular enough to run for provincial office under a major ticket and has a school named after him. All the really old-timers swear he was king shit. Carpentier suffers from the same problem I would think.

[1990-10-13-WWF-Saturday Night's Main Event] Show opening
Dooley replied to Loss's topic in October 1990
Vince and Piper arguing (ostensibly) pre-show about Piper wearing the hat was hilarious. -
Luger looked genuinely exasperated trying to get a word in edge-wise while Hogan kept cutting him off.

I just want to add that "meaningless depth" is my new favorite ridiculous phrase and I will try to use it in any situation I can from here on out. When discussing sports: "The Giants have some good WR's, but it's meaningless depth. They can only throw to one at a time." At the optometrist: "Sure Doc, you might think I need glasses, but a lot of what I'm missing is just meaningless depth". At the swimming pool: "Of course I can dive here. I don't care what it's marked, that's meaningless depth". When reading Kafka: "I don't enjoy his work, I find his surrealism to be little more than meaningless depth".

Growing up outside of Toronto in the 80's, we were exposed to the full WWF syndication package. Challenge, Superstars, Maple Leaf Wrestling (which was Superstars with extra Cancon and hosted by Billy Red Lyons) and "WWF Cavalcade", which was Challenge with the extra Cancon. The only exposure to NWA was on those "free preview" weekends for the pay TV tier, which included TBS.

[1996-03-31-WWF-Wrestlemania XII] Ultimate Warrior vs Hunter Hearst Helmsley
Dooley replied to Loss's topic in March 1996
Did HHH really gain political favor? The MSG Curtain Call was only a little more than a month after this, which he took the brunt of. -
Does anyone know why they didn't go with LOD-Demos for the titles at a PPV? Like Hogan-Flair the next year, it seemed like they were determined to leave money on the table.

[1990-10-27-WWF-Superstars] Update: Rick Rude suspended indefinitely!
Dooley replied to Loss's topic in October 1990
I'd never heard that. I'd always heard that Rude quit because he got lowballed on his Summerslam payoff.- 13 replies

I don't know, if Axl did have to worry about being whacked by the Geffen hit squad then he may have put out more than one album in 20 years. And reunited with Slash.

That's ok, I was expecting something about Meltzer's ridiculous "Norwegian food" analogy.

[1990-04-28-WWF-Saturday Night's Main Event] Hart Foundation vs Rockers
Dooley replied to Loss's topic in April 1990
I don't know if the idea was to turn the Harts or just establish them as the "de facto" heels for the match against the smaller Rockers. Either way, I echo the praise as this match was a lot of fun and it's too bad the rope broke later in the year as I would have loved to have seen Harts-Rockers 2/3 falls. -
How is Warrior beating Rude here, hitting the splash and getting a visual fall before Heenan pulled his hair, supposed to make me want to pay to see a cage match a month later?

Given Vince's political views, I'm almost surprised this version of Sarge wasn't pushed as a babyface.

This reminded me a lot of the promo where he decided he wouldn't sell the title to DiBiase.

"He's ambitiously stupid" - Why Scott Keith's new book is scary bad
Dooley replied to Bix's topic in Megathread archive
Nothing with Bret Hart? -
It's things like this segment that keep me beating the drum that Warrior's in-ring performance wasn't even close to the top of things gone wrong with his title reign.
