  1. I love the idea that Tito Santana had literally nothing to live for apart from revenge against Martel until he became El Matador. I picture him laying awake all night before Royal Rumble 90 thinking to himself "yes! Tomorrow! I can get my hands on that Rick Martel once more!" His friends are all like, "let it go Tito, he's moved on and doesn't care" and they can see he's still wearing the Strike Force stuff. "You've got to let go Tito!" And eventually, he has to go to hypnotherapy and when he comes out he suddenly thinks he's an actual Matador.
  2. Haven't listened to your NES episode, but I will definitely check that out. Just going to put my list together before I do ... 10. Gyromite - probably doesn't deserve to be anywhere near, but this is still one of the oddest games I've ever owned. Came with R.O.B., an actual robot, and you had this gyrating disc that he would have to pick up -- while still spinning -- and drop onto a big A or B button which would cause the columns on the screen to go up or down and then on your own controller you could run through with the professor. Weirdest. Game. Ever. 9. Wrecking Crew - This is a wicked game, and an obscure Mario outing. 8. Duck Hunt - Great music, addictive as hell, and of course the fucking dog. 7. Legend of Zelda - might seem a low rating, but I honestly never felt the greatness of this series until Zelda 3: Link to the Past on SNES. THAT was awesome, but this one less so imo. 6. Super Mario Bros 2 - it might be a Doki Doki Panic clone and feel weird, but it's still a great game, and underrated imo 5. Megaman 3 - rock hard, but not quite a impossible as Mega Man 1, like all the Mega Man games, insanely good music. 4. Super Mario Bros - I have no respect for anyone who can't do 1-1 on auto pilot and who can't get to at least 4-2 without losing a life. 3. Punchout!! - love the characters, I actually liked the SNES sequel better, theme music is awesome 2. Megaman 2 - design perfection, GOAT music in any video game, period 1. Super Mario Bros 3 - contender for GOAT any format With Contra and Metroid, again I felt those were better in their SNES incarnations. Sorry about that, always been a huge Nintendo mark.
  3. Updated to include: - Shows dedicated to promotions or territories - Shows about particular styles of wrestling - Shows Counting Down Lists of Top 50s / 100s
  4. Chavo vs. Buzz Sawyer is a sort of dream match on paper.
  5. That would be fantastic Bruce!

  7. Wonder if Boesch ever got Dick Woerlhe in just to work the midget matches.
  8. A few little things, been listening to this on and off for the best part of a week. - Dylan, you mentioned that Arn Anderson is really the only other guy who gets that sense of legitimacy across but watching 85 Crockett on the network, I was reminded again at how tremendous Ole Anderson was in that respect. Would you put Ole in the with Arn and Nick or a notch below? - Regarding the Flair vs. Bock match the the shoehorning of that backslide into a bridge spot. I am not a huge fan of that spot, and so I tend to notice it ... And basically, I think it's a Dory Funk Jr spot, and then Brisco, Terry Funk, Harley and Flair ALL did it in their various defences. Like a very staple "go to" to eat up two minutes or so. I wonder if it was less a staple of working Ric's match and more a staple of an NWA title match. I mean they'd shoehorn Baba into that spot. It seems like it was such a standard thing that they maybe wouldn't even consider the possibility of not doing it.
  9. I think there's two distinct trajectories for this: The guy who goes onto bigger and better things as a star but keeps some aspect of their tag look ... Bret, Davey Boy, Bubba Ray, etc. And then there's the guys who have basically been left behind.
  10. I thought Crockett made Giegel seem like a bit of a chump. Tunney wouldn't have stood for it.
  11. Awesome. When this poll first started it looked like it was going to be a curb-stomp, but right at this moment it has reached 20-20. I might have to check out the Iron Man and Sasha-Becky, I have not actually watched those matches. Appreciated reading Dylan's thoughts.
  12. I mean he obviously slings the US belt over his shoulder doesn't he ... I'm wondering how that decision by Giegel gets overturned.
  13. Jerry Lawler (and indeed Memphis in general) would be one I think, insomuch as here he is considered as a GOAT shortlister, whereas I get the impression from Matysik, Flair, and others of that generation that they don't really think of Lawler as being great in that way and don't have a great deal of love for Memphis -- Flair usually has a certain amount of contempt in his voice when he talks about Memphis, if he ever talks about it at all. I also don't think a guy like Nick Bockwinkel had a great deal of respect for the Memphis style based on shoots I've seen.
  14. I have long thought of doing something like this and I hope it will be a living resource. I will keep adding to it as new content is uploaded. 15. Are you sure Magnum vs. Tully was for the US title? I have been watching the build on the shows uploaded to WWE Network and Bob Giegel would not sanction the match. Jim Crockett Jr. steps in to book the match but since Giegel was the NWA President, doesn't that mean the title wasn't on the line?
  16. Was listening to Tag Teams Back Again and Kelly mentioned how Tito Santana stayed in the Strike Force gear two years after the fact. What are some other great examples of this?
  17. Going to have to watch this Martel vs. Tama match.
  18. All-time great promos Dusty Flair Arn Ole Cornette Superstar Billy Graham Great promos Tully JJ Dillon Buddy Landell Road Warrior Hawk Very solid promos Ivan Koloff Manny Fernandez Ricky Morton Jimmy Valiant Solid promos Black Bart Paul Jones Terry Taylor Magnum TA Krusher Kruchev Baby Doll Nikita Koloff Over the past two or three hours, all of this people have cut promos on 1985 JCP TV
  19. The number of great talkers Crockett had in 1985 is absolutely fucking ridiculous.
  20. I am going to watch the World Championship Wrestling eps they uploaded on the WWE network until I pass out.
  21. A good example of matches that were down-graded at the time because of finishes the crowd didn't like would be the Flair vs. Luger matches, especially the blood stoppage one. That would be another match I'd point to where the finish is not good, but it doesn't really bring me down on the match.
  22. It's cool if you judge matches on things like that. Just wanted a bit of elaboration. I tend not to and look almost exclusively at bell to bell when judging matches. I'm low on stuff like Race vs. Flair from Starrcade or Flair vs. Sting, Clash 1 that have been rated highly in the past for their significance, just as I'm high on stuff like Flair vs. Garvin that have been criticised in the past for poor booking. It's just how I tend to think about matches.
  23. I don't want to be trivial, but do you really add a snow-flake for the potential social or political significance of a given match? Should I be marking Iron Sheik vs. Sgt. Slaughter down for its jingoism and xenophobia? Should I be marking the Dudes with Attitude angle up in 1990 for its commitment to equal rights (for black guys, JYD, for both South Americans and Giants, Gigante, for the disabled, Orndorff, and for the mentally challenged, Rick Steiner)? We also don't seem to do this for other historically significant matches ... Do you give Hogan vs. Andre an extra snow flake for the booking behind it? Do you give extra significance to the Ron Simmons title win? I am being serious on this.
  24. I thought the booking was smart and don't particularly care about it because match was at ***** before Rollins showed up. Matches can end in a draw or screw finish and still get full five from me. I think fans put too much emphasis on clean pitfalls in general. I guess as evidenced by reactions to Roman vs. Brock.
  25. I'm not sure I get this.
