I've been wondering this for a while now, who is Ryan Ward exactly? I mean, does anyone know his background, how he got to work for WWE, etc.? I've seen his name bandied about lately but don't know a thing about him. Seems like he may be an old school fan based on his booking style.

I was trying not to spoil it ☺

Wrestling's most shameless, most glorious exaggerations
Ricky Jackson replied to MoS's topic in Pro Wrestling
You are correct. I just saw a list that also included Blackjack Mulligan, Masked Superstar, Sgt. Slaughter, Don Leo Johnathan, Peter Maivia, Otto Wanz and Mil Mascaras -

Strong Kobayashi and Maurice Vachon are another two -
Or that they blinded a black man back in 1980

Cool. Thanks man

Random question, but did Meltzer ever do a full bio on Dutch Savage? He died in August 2013 and Meltzer did a short bio where he stated he would do a complete bio when he had the space. Looking through the following issues I can't see one. I'm really interested in reading it if it exists, so I just need a date for the issue

A very old friend of mine, dating back to Calgary in 1989, has recently started a podcast with two of his friends devoted to reviewing season 2 of Lucha Underground. The three of them have great chemistry, are naturally funny, and I think it is an entertaining show. They also keep things concise, with episodes usually maxing out at 40 minutes or so. If you are interested in Lucha Underground, check them out https://soundcloud.com/lucha-afterground (Before anyone asks, I've told my pal to enable downloads for the last two eps)

Shoots Review and Preview thread
Ricky Jackson replied to BruiserBrody's topic in Megathread archive
Martel 1981 shoot is not a good representation of the era at all. The host doesn't seem to have much knowledge of that time and most of the interview is based around generalizations and rarely do they delve into any specifics. Backlund era WWF isn't for everyone, but don't let this shoot dissuade you from giving it a chance. -
PTBN Reaction Show: Fastlane 2016
Ricky Jackson replied to soup23's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Too short and likely not enough Vince impressions for Judy's tastes -
Punk's pod with Cabana came out long after HHH put over Bryan and the Shield though

All I know is they were seemingly able to reverse a lot of the negative fan reaction by booking him strong at the end of 2015 and then flushed it all down the toilet at the Royal Rumble. Reigns is DEAD as a babyface. Totally, completely dead. If this isn't a plan to make Reigns the biggest heel and HHH a babyface then I don't know what the fuck they are thinking. If Reigns is a pawn in some kind of backstage power struggle that is sad. I'm not "in the know" so all I can go on is what I see on TV. What I see is a bunch of inconsistent, scattered booking that suggests a bunch of last second changes and no clear vision and as a result we have a huge muddled mess
-
Pretty sure Bret mentioned in his book something was in the works with Roberts before he left the WWF
-
Loved the main event. Surely they have to turn Reigns heel, because I don't think there is any chance he's going to get babyface heat anytime soon
-
Yeah, there is that one and an even worse Spectrum card from 88 on youtube that will make for prime Mystery Titans shows

Words. i guess i shouldn't be surprised that history buffs wouldn't be so interested in understanding the dynamics of the present, but i think there's just so much there and hardly anyone in this fandom is bringing it up. seems like this isn't the forum to do it, though, which is a shame to me because there could be so much potential given the knowledge you guys have. maybe i should do a blog post about this topic and link it in that subforum? Your content is interesting and it has nothing to do with us old dudes not caring about the "new reality". I think the problem is your blatant disregard for capital letters

"Memphis Heat" is actually a really, really awesome documentary on Memphis wrestling that everyone should check out
-
If I had the time I'd totally be up for it because I love Memphis from that era. Great idea for a pod

A " total is greater than the sum of his parts" wrestlers
Ricky Jackson replied to GOTNW's topic in Pro Wrestling
In the context of old, slow-working and often non-athletic looking wrestlers in 70s NYC, I think Bob came off as a major breath of fresh air for a lot of fans. And he was booked like a beast -
Yeah, totally

For anyone wondering why the full 70s and 80s MSG and Cap Centre cards from OldSkool's YouTube channel dried up it was because WWE shut him down. He messaged me on YouTube and says he wants to join PWO.
