  1. I must have watched that Patera feat of strength bit with Vince and the van dozens of times back in the day on the great "The Biggest, the Smallest, the Strangest and the Strongest" CHV tape. One of Vince's greatest performances.
  2. Cheap plug, but Parv has an awesome bio of Joe McHugh on a future episode of Titans - an all-Allentown spectacular with challenges, chairs, blood, jobbers, masked jobbers and Dominic "The Van" DeNucci
  3. Ricky Jackson

    Current WWE

If he took on the "Bryan Scicluna" gimmick suggested by the spolier photo he could work for another 30 years and not have to worry about taking bumps. Wrestling could also use a new master of the foreign object
  4. http://placetobenation.com/titans-of-wrestling-29-part-2-the-birds-go-down-to-georgia/ The Titans of Rasslin wrap up their look at Georgia Championship Wrestling with an in-depth examination of the Fabulous Freebirds arrival on the scene and the mayhem they inflicted on the areas top good guys (Ted DiBiase, Robert Fuller and...dear God...Stan "Uncle Elmer" Frazier). The "Titans Assemble" call is put out as Kelly, Parv, Johnny, Pete AND Marty Sleeze gather for the usual tons of insight and tons of laughs. The 3hrs just fly by! On the docket: 1980 Mr. Saito vs Steve Keirn $5000 challenge/ Saito vs Mr. Wrestling II $5000 challenge 1980 Freebirds promos 1980 Ted DiBiase vs Terry Gordy 1980 "Two-Ring, Triple-Chance Battle Royal" (???) 1981 DiBiase/Robert Fuller vs Freebirds x2 Omni footage 1981 DiBiase/Stan Frazier vs Freebirds 1981 JYD promo/Mid South blinding angle (!!!) 1981 JYD/DiBiase vs Freebirds 1981 Ted in the hospital Also on tonight's show: -Unanimous praise for Michael Hayes and the Freebirds in general -Debating the merits of JYD as a worker -Stan Frazier makes his case for the WOAT -DiBiase takes a beating in more ways than one
  5. In the 90s I called a hotline in Calgary where the guy just recapped WO news. This went on for most of the decade
  6. I have no idea who that is, but "Total" Lee Awesome is a fantastic name.
  7. Heh, yeah my quip implying Georgians are unsophisticated was uncalled for. Sorry man. Feel free to make Canadian jokes on the next WTBBP
  8. Part 2 drops Tuesday. Again, you can watch the footage discussed in the episode (unlike the WWF stuff, where you can only dream of someday seeing the greatness ) Start around the 54 minute mark with Mr. Saito vs Steve Keirn
  9. He is James' favorite wrestler
  10. And as the Midnight Rockers in the AWA they were heavily pimped by the mags. Conversely, Rose and Somers were treated as jokes and always ranked below the Rockers in the tag team top ten even though they were the champs IIRC
  11. Please let that match exist
  12. http://placetobenation.com/titans-of-wrestling-29-part-1-georgia-championship-wrestling/ Join us as the Titans of Rasslin visit Earth II, where Pete doesn't exist (actually he is trapped under a pile of thousands of wrestling DVDs, updates throughout), and the team of Kelly, Parv, Johnny and Marty Sleeze explore the amazing world of Georgia Championship Wrestling on TBS! And for the first time ever, the material covered on the show is so vast that a second part is required (look for it in about two weeks). On the docket tonight: 1979 Ole Anderson promo / Bobby Heenan and Ernie Ladd promo 1979 Ernie Ladd attacks Chief Jay Strongbow 1980 Tommy Rich vs. Dennis Condrey TV title match 1980 Ole Anderson turns on Dusty Rhodes + Ole falls out with Lars and enlists the aid of Terry Funk 1980 Mr. Wrestling II and The Assassin discuss why they wear a mask Also on tonight's show: -A look at the history of GCW, its important relationship with Ted Turner-owned television stations, and the role it played in the story of WCW -In-depth discussion of Mr.Wrestling II and Tommy Rich -Stongbow's humiliation makes Parv...uh, giddy -Fantasy Blaxploitation booking: Ernie Ladd is "The Big Cat of Harlem" -A show-ending comparison of early-80s GCW and WWF
  13. Memphis has been discussed. It feels like it should be saved for a special occasion, like maybe #50 or something. I think the trouble with Memphis is that there is so much good stuff it's difficult to figure out where to start. I guess 1970s Mempho would be the Titans way to go.
  14. We have a ton of ideas for future shows looking at the other territories. Would definitely love to look at St. Louis again, as well as Portland, another Unspecial, and a long time in the works 1950s show. Plus a bunch of others.
  15. Well, you just need to watch the first 54 minutes to cover the stuff we talked about on part 1, so that's not too bad.
  16. In advance of Titans #29 (part 1 of 2 dropping Tuesday) here is the Georgia footage we - Parv, Johnny, Superstar Marty Sleeze and myself - discuss on the show. Part 1 covers everything up to and including the Mr. Wrestling II/Assassin segment. Enjoy! Also, coming to a theatre near you in an alternate universe in 1975
  17. The problem is wrestling became scripted and tried to be Hollywood. Before, wrestling was wrestling-that weird, crazy, fun type of entertainment that was unlike anything else and that you only get in glimpses anymore.
  18. Just watched this on youtube and yeah, it's nasty. Blood everywhere. Kent knew exactly what had happened. Crusher kept attacking Mad Dog even though everyone else seemed to know that he was legit in trouble
  19. Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather have the type of wrestling that has the potential to start a riot
  20. I had no idea footage of the JYD-Freebirds blinding angle from 1980 Mid South existed until stumbling upon it today buried in the middle of a bunch of Georgia footage from 1981 (JYD was in in the studio and he brought footage of the angle with him to play on TBS to explain his past history with the Birds)
  21. Fuck, I need to see that Meadowlands match
  22. The real difference is that Verne was the captain of a ship that sank to the bottom of the ocean while Vince Sr. never had to navigate through anything more difficult than a few rough waves.
  23. Vince Sr got more out of Hogan than most heels in the territory at the time. Hogan's run was from November 79 to April 81, longer than Patera (who was on another level from the other heels of course), the Samoans, Duncum, Valentine, and others. He had a run with Bob in Philly and a long feud with Andre when Andre was a huge drawing card and arguably at the peak of his stardom. I'm sure Vince Sr was well aware that Hogan was a potential superstar. I'm also pretty sure the story of Hogan being fired for the Rocky III role is total bullshit. They pushed his role in the movie on the last Philly show and probably others. I don't think they would've done that if they were upset with him getting the part. Anyway, yes Vince Sr could have turned Hogan, but he could have turned other heels, like Patera, and didn't. They moved on to the next territory and someone fresh was brought in. The machine kept on rolling.
