  1. Woo hoo, I get to watch wrestling again for the first time since the Rumble! Really pumped to watch this with my usual AEW ppv crew. Should be a great show based on how solid the tv has been lately, of which I've only seen GIF's here and there, but you guys have been praising Dynamite highly and I of course value the opinions of those posting on this great site. Now I just need to get the wi fi situation figured out on the farm so I can finally resume Power. Also, AEW needs a streaming option for Dynamite that can be viewed in Canada asap. I hate this fucking country and its stupid TV regulations sometimes...
  2. Jesus Christ, JR. WTF. That was rough
  3. Yeah, I was thinking that may have had something to do with it, but usually if the star was big enough (Mascaras, Bruno of course, likely others) any political issues would be ignored anyway
  4. Sheik had a run with Bruno in 68, it didnt draw particularly great (but nothing in the territory really did at the time), and, as I mentioned, he was also involved in a mini riot at MSG in early 69. I've read that soured Vince Sr on too much blood and craziness in matches. The Sheik was a HUGE draw in the early 70s and Vince Sr only used him for (I think) one match against Pedro in Boston, with no TV appearances. He didnt work the territory during Bruno's second run with the strap
  5. Like I wrote, I think one of the main hold-ups was Vince Sr didn't like Abby's blood-in-every-match gimmick. When it came to blood, 70s WWWF was conservative compared to a lot of other territories
  6. Pretty sure Abby didnt work WWWF proper. The Buffalo date would be for the old NWF that ran the city for decades. Not sure about the Baltimore date but it would've been strange to bring Abby in for just one shot, and not even at MSG. I think one of the reasons he never got a run against Bruno, Pedro or Bob was Vince Sr was a little wary of using hardcore blood gimmick wrestlers after the Sheik caused a mini riot in 1969 at MSG, although Sheik did work Boston against Pedro in 72, so who knows. Can't see Abby turning down a chance to work on top in NYC, so it would seem like the hold up was on Vince Sr's end Edit: those Baltimore dates in 75 are interesting because they appear to be WWWF cards with Bruno on top. Wonder what the story is there. Buffalo show is definitely NWF looking at the card
  7. Yeah, that's interesting Fritz never worked for WWWF considering his standing as a top heel in the 60s. His "brother" Waldo was one of Bruno's main foes over the years. Looks like the closest Fritz ever got was working for Vince Sr's rival New York promoter Kola Kwariani around 1959. By the 70s he was promoting in Dallas and not really in position to do a run in another territory. David and Kevin had one shots at MSG
  8. Ok, cool. I was asking more for those who like to keep match discussion up to date rather than for myself. Tbh, I haven't seen a single match this month since I've been traveling and mostly without wi fi lol
  9. Can one of the mods please start a February match discussion folder
  10. For those interested in the history of 50s-70s wrestling, I just started the Gene Kiniski bio by Steve Verrier (who also wrote a pretty good history of Pacific NW wrestling) and it's really well researched and really good
  11. I'm without consistent wi fi until sometime in March. We'll be back eventually
  12. Main event was great but outside of Bryan being being awesome the rest of the show was pretty much a typical nothing WWE card
  13. Whoops, I meant "shouldn't"
  14. Should've used the accent above the "e" in the title of the Hercules Ayala RIP thread @Edwin
  15. When I watched them all a few years back the one that really stood out besides the MSG match was from Boston Garden 3/5/88. Not sure how readily available it is these days but it's definitely a very good match and worth tracking down Edit: I see now that it's one of the Prime Time matches, 5/16/88
  16. Come on guys, I can't even watch this week (perhaps not for several weeks due to my present sans cable, sans wi fi situation) and I still have to make the thread?
  17. I've never listened to a Tony/Conrad pod. I know he's a WWF fanboy at heart, but Conrad really doesn't like 80s Crockett?
  18. Scurll got main roster money AND the book. Hopefully he can turn ROH around. Will be interesting to see this all play out. Plus he can work New Japan, NWA and maybe AEW. He's one of the biggest winners in the wrestling talent-signing spree of the last year or so
  19. Yes, with Mr. Hito. Maybe the title of this thread could be altered a bit because my first thought was it was the well-known English wrestler of the 60s and 70s also named Kendo Nagasaki who passed away
  20. I was gonna say lol. Isla Dawn is as white as Sheamus
  21. Hahaha...yeah, that's become an ordinary move even more than the Canadian Destroyer
  22. God bless Dave for giving Firpo's obit top billing in the WON over the Wrestle Kingdom review
  23. For what it's worth, Dynamite smoked NXT in the ratings last night, and has posted big numbers the last two weeks
  24. Nice write up by Meltzer explaining his importance and influence (Savage patterned his voice and promo style off Firpo) https://www.f4wonline.com/other-wrestling/pampero-firpo-passes-away-89-years-old-301281
  25. Wow, I definitely didnt feel like I was watching an all time horrible segment at the time but apparently I was. I was drinking a large beer when it was on but I hardly had Johnny goggles. Oh well, I guess I'm the only one who didnt think it was Russo TNA level bad. Seriously though, outside of Jericho and Moxley, most of AEW for the last couple months has been totally skippable. The Jan 1 show was a lot of fun but this week's show was back to the uninteresting, lukewarm vibe they ended 2019 with, even if I didnt hate the Nightmare stuff like everyone else. AEW definitely isn't must watch TV. The crowds are getting smaller each week too. I think the "everyone plays their own music" idea was a noble one, but this promotion really needs a booker with veto power and a clear vision before things truly fly off the rails
