  1. Guess AEW is dead. No thread almost 20 mins into the show. Opening match was 20 mins
  2. Episode 83 https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/world-cast-83-holiday-star-wars-112483 November 24, 1983 The boys get together one more time before an indefinite hiatus for an epic review of "Holiday" Star Wars, which took place Thanksgiving night at Reunion Arena in Dallas! Pretty stacked card*, featuring... Tonga John, Boris Zurkhoff (sp?), Black Gordman vs Jose Lothario, Johnny Mantell, Mike Reed Mike Von Erich vs Skandor Akbar (Mike's debut match) The Super-D's vs Iceman Parsons/Junkyard Dog, American tag team titles Kevin Von Erich vs Terry Gordy David Von Erich vs Kamala Chris Adams (w.Sunshine) vs Jimmy Garvin (w.Precious), American title Kerry Von Erich vs Michael Hayes, Loser Leaves Town Cage match The Thanksgiving show is really good, paying off several long term feuds, before a molten hot crowd in Dallas. World Cast will be back in 2020, just like Michael Hayes will be back, dressed as Santa, at the next Star Wars. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! *This card is split over the Dec 3 & 10 1983 eps of WCCW, and the main event is found at the beginning of the May 5, 1984 ep.
  3. World Cast of the Champions IX: Boogie Jam '84 https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/world-cast-of-the-champions-ix-boogie-jam-84 March 17, 1984 Pete is once again joined by J.B. and Johnny P for another look at some great early-80s Southern wrestling action! The fellas look at... Tully Blanchard vs Dory Funk Jr. Rufus R. Jones vs Ernie Ladd NWA Tag Team Champions Wahoo McDaniel & Mark Youngblood vs Don Kernodle & Bob Orton Jr Angelo Mosca Sr., Angelo Mosca Jr., & the Junkyard Dog vs Gary Hart, the Great Kabuki, & Ivan Koloff NWA US Champion Dick Slater vs Greg Valentine No DQ steel cage match NWA World Champion Ric Flair vs Ricky Steamboat Jimmy Valiant (w/ Dusty Rhodes) vs Assassin #2 (w/ Paul Jones)hair vs mask match Hopefully this wont be the last World Cast of the Champions. I'm sure Pete can produce some of his own Gems from his private stash to keep things going
  4. French-Canadian journeyman wrestler from the late-50s to mid-80s. Apparently he died May 25 but it's only getting out now. Had his greatest success in several southern territories in 70s working as Sgt. Jacques Goulet. Several stints in NYC, including a brief run with Karl Gotch as one half of the WWWF tag team champs in late 71/early 72. By the 80s he was a TV JTTS for Jr and later I believe an agent for many years (he was one of the many old timers who would break up brawls on TV well into the 90s). He was 86
  5. Episode 82 https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/world-cast-82 November 19, 1983 With the big Thanksgiving night show at Reunion Arena right around the corner, the boys just need to review the go home show. And what a go home show it is! -More Ft. Worth TV. Someone needs to pay for Kamala's humiliation with a whippin'! -Kerry hypes one of the biggest matches of his career by reciting a poem about the cage -Jose Lothario can still kick ass and take names -The Super D's are sneaky bastards -"WE WANT SUNSHINE! WE WANT SUNSHINE! WE WANT SUNSHINE!" A truly amazing close to the show, with the territories hottest new babyface stealing the spotlight and standing tall against those who wronged her!
  6. Another fun sprint main event for Mox. Show was fine but they need a hot angle one of these weeks
  7. One complaint, pretty much ever week, is that they make this bald ref look incompetent with him missing interference, low blows, foreign objects. Major pet peeve of mine
  8. Jericho is incredible. That was 1998 all over again, in a good way
  9. Love this show. Pretty daming opinions on Vince and WWE culture on the latest ask Arn ep. Last question: "Any funny Vince stories?" (Pause) "No"
  10. I think we are seeing a lot of learning on the fly from AEW now. They road an incredible wave of momentum based on being underexposed indy stars that many fans rallied behind as an exciting and different alternative to WWE. Now they are on TV every week and they have to rely more on compelling booking than being successful based on the aura of a special attraction. They have the right talent to succeed long term but a lot of them are finding their footing in a new environment and playing a whole new ballgame. The mix of veterans and new talent is great but it may take time to get it right
  11. And the RnRs are defending the straps against the Wild Cards at the PPV The Cornette send off maybe should've been saved for another time, if at all
  12. The later promo by Aldis, which I thought was really good btw, further explains things and adds an intriguing stip. All things considered, I thought this was an effective way to build interest. They could've aired the 3-way this week but it would've gotten buried by the RnRs feel good moment. Anyway, all I know is I had lost a ton of interest in the last couple weeks but this ep has rekindled it. I really, really like the promos being cut here, some of the best in wrestling. If the PPV shits the bed, fine, but I'm going to give it a chance and am looking forward to it
  13. The James Storm promo on this week's show does explain why he is getting the NWA title shot at the PPV. He won a 3-way match for the shot in a match that presumably would've aired last week if they didnt have to release a hasty fill in ep in the wake of the Cornette controversy without any matches featuring his commentary. Still not a match I'm dying to see, but we can't blame nonsensical booking on it
  14. Episode 81 https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/world-cast-81 November 12, 1983 Things had been a little dreary in Dallas...AND THEN THIS EPISODE HITS THE BOYS LIKE A PUNCH IN THE FACE!!! So much happens in one of the most noteworthy shows reviewed yet, including: -The Super D's are finally here. Aren't they supposed to be a tag team, though? -A super young Barbarian is in the territory as TONGA JOHN -Papa Fritz is here! And so is son, Mike. But is he anywhere near ready for prime time? -One of the great babyface turns of the 1980s, with Sunshine emerging as a SUPERSTAR -And to to it off, a mother f'n country whipping match between Hayes/Gordy and Kerry/Kevin! The boys had a blast watching and reviewing this show, folks. Don't miss it! (Also, as a bonus, Pete kicks things off by cutting a promo about the end of Hidden Gems)
  15. If he starts throwing fireballs I'll definitely become more interested
  16. No ratings this week because of Thanksgiving?
  17. Thanks man! Full credit to Meltzer for the bio of course
  18. Hey that's cool. I remember reading about that movie in the WON back when it was released and not too long ago actually thought about it and if it was available somewhere. Thanks for sharing
  19. Highly recommend the Survivor Series 88 ep, which is barely about the show itself. Mostly it's Arn giving his opinions on working, drawing, gimmicks, all the different wrestlers on the card, and all kinds of other stuff and backstage insight. Really good stuff here
  20. Yeah, the bulk of the show wasn't must see or anything, but the bookends featuring Jericho were top notch, with a good hook at the end for next week
  21. My major complaint with that random debut was Excalibur not explaining where he knew them from to a totally confused JR
  22. The decade is almost over and it's really been an interesting, exciting, and transformative one for pro wrestling. There have been really high highs and some pretty low lows. Personally, at the start of the decade I was pretty uninterested in modern wrestling and I think the overall state of the business was at a low point. It seemed like it was all WWE and not much else, at least what was garnering buzz and perceived as being healthy. Slowly things began to change, with the rise of New Japan being the first spark. By mid-decade I was getting back into modern stuff, with my gateway drug being the women in NXT. As the decade ends, I'm probably more interested in new wrestling than I have been since around 2005-06, although still a serious old school fan deep down. I think that creative, variety and quality wise wrestling is much better in 2019 than in 2010, even if overall mainstream popularity may be lower than it has been since maybe the mid-90s. Anyway, I thought it would be fun to discuss the best of the 2010s. Best matches, best wrestlers, best shows, best promotion, etc. We can talk about the biggest moments, breakout stars, best developments, whatever. I'd like to see what consensus comes from this board, made up of some of the hardest of the hardcores I'll start the ball rolling with a few off the top of my head... Best match: I'm far, far from being an expert on 2010s wrestling and one who has seen all the most hyped matches. Of the ones I did see, I think Sasha Banks vs Bayley from Takeover Brooklyn 2015 stands out the most. It was the culmination of a title chase, a great match, felt huge at the time in front of a large, hot crowd, and is historically important Best show: NXT Takeover Philadelphia 2018 At the peak of my NXT fandom and one of the peaks of the decade when coupled with a really good Royal Rumble show the next day in the same building. Loved the main event, one of my favorite matches of the decade. Undercard was solid, with Black vs Cole probably being the standout Best wrestler: It feels like this should go to one of the women, with their great advancement being one of the best stories of the decade, but as I think about it, I dont think any one really stands head and shoulders above the crowd. Daniel Bryan was hugely important and consistently awesome, but he missed a good chunk of the decade to injury. Again, I'm far from an expert, but I feel like Kazuchika Okada is probably the pick, combining matches, star power, consistency and the remarkable story of going from TNA joke to history changing megastar over the course of the decade These are just my knee jerk, emotional, and only partially informed picks. Let's hear what PWO has to say!
  23. Yeah, I was loving this show too, but between the Cornette bs and the PPV card reveal it's totally flown off the tracks the last couple weeks
  24. Episode 80 https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/world-cast-80 October 26 & November 5, 1983 Kelly is lost in the internet ether, so Pete and Johnny bring back some of that Space City magic for a review of TWO Sportatorium shows! Among the highlights... -An "encore" match from Ft. Worth TV, featuring Kamala losing his tag team match virginity -The MASKED AVENGER is here ...and he's wearing the Texan's mask.(remember him?) Did Pete and Johnny notice? Tune in to find out! -What the F*** is Black Gordman doing back in the territory? -JUDY MARTIN is here...but is it a disappointment? -Mike Reed should not be getting this much offense -Another horrible Network dub job -JYD is here...although strangely under-hyped -Superpush '83 is truly dead and Gordy's Oriental spike killed it
