On Titans we've discovered that the Strongbow brothers were actually a fairly decent tag team, at least against Saito and Fuji. That's kinda sorta a revisionist opinion of Jay. And the world definitely needs more talk about Mr. Fuji

Thank you Stacey

"The Unpredictable" Johnny Rodz (aka The Jobber Thread)
Ricky Jackson replied to Ricky Jackson's topic in The Microscope
Johnny Rodz vs Mac Rivera - 2/19/1983, Philadelphia Spectrum Dick Graham and Gorilla Monsoon ("We want Kal! We want Kal!") on commentary. Ring announcer Dave Zinkoff with great introductions for the wrestlers and referee Dick Woehrle in the old timey, over-the -top manner straight out of 1927. Rodz is the babyface for a change and receives a decent pop from the Philly faithful. Mac Rivera is in full heel mode, Pear Harboring Rodz at the bell. Parv and I watched a Rivera match from April 1983 on the first Mystery Titans Theatre, and he was horrible there. Here, two months earlier, he looks much better. The guys cut a decent pace and engage in a slugfest in the early going. Not the Greatest Wrestling Ever, but solid stuff. But hey, everyone knows I revel in garbage, inferior wrestling, so don't take my opinion too seriously. Things slow down a bit, but Rodz heats things back up with some Lawler-esque punches. Rodz isn't bad as a fired up baby and South Philly loves him this evening. However, there are a lot of sloppy spots from both guys, so don't worry, neither man will be a threat to the 2026 GWE poll. The match just drifts aimlessly, as many WWF undercard matches from the era tend to do. We get a nice finish, with a well-timed rope running exchange ending with Rodz hitting Rivera with a sweet back elbow. Rodz covers Rivera. 1, 2, 3...Rodz wins! Rodz wins! Rodz wins! I love pro wrestling -
I'm sure that most of the voters who didn't rank him just haven't seen enough, or any, of his matches, not because they watched a ton of Casas and said "fuck him, he sucks"

landy1987 just uploaded this. Rare footage of WWF from Atlantic City 1979. 3 matches. One being a midget tag, the second an infamous match for fans of Titans from way back, and the third Ted DiBiase vs Greg Valentine! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rzh0pzU2qp0

[2016-04-03-WWE-Wrestlemania XXXII] The Undertaker vs Shane McMahon
Ricky Jackson replied to GOTNW's topic in April 2016
I've stumbled on sites (inhabited by fans who save their highest praise for matches that feature the most dangerous high spots) where this match is considered one of the greatest in the history of everything. Removed from context I guess it can't be as bad as it felt in real time, but dear sweet God I think this is easily one of the biggest pieces of steaming shit the WWE has ever produced- 6 replies

Here is the thing. If I start factoring in those other things (promos, presence as a character, angles, drawing power, et) I don't see how they really help Bret's case either. Not part of Bret's case, but we are seeing that emotional attachment and voting for favorites is responsible for boosting a lot of guys who don't stack up to those who check all the boxes. But not enough to affect the top 10 I believe Like Savage? I kid, I kid. Oh it's absolutely true for me. I had Bruno at number 12 remember

Outside of the hardest of the hardcores, Bret has been pushed as one the greatest wrestlers ever for at least 20 years, so even at a place like PWO, I don't think it's that surprising that he's going to end up where he does. Does his career match up to a lot of the others in the top 100 based solely on in-ring, consistency, and longevity? No it doesn't, but it seems like only a relatively small percentage of voters are basing their lists entirely on those criteria

No Way Jose should provide a lot of fun moments based on his debut
-
Add my number 1 Randy Savage and my team could go back in time and end WW 2 in 1939
-
My high vote Survivor Series team is Mr. Wrestling II, Dusty Rhodes, Bruno Sammartino and Sgt. Slaughter. That's a pretty fucking awesone team

Plus one more for good measure, featuring Roddy Piper! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htQA9UvB304

Ding ding ding! Best post of the GWE project! Let's celebrate the greatness of some of the Greatest Wrestlers Ever! Dec 86 and Jan 87 MSG

Oh calm down El P
-
You're just flat out creating revisionist history now
-
Awesome. That's a pretty deep and varied collection of stuff
-
Come on El P, you can badmouth him for a lot of things, but saying Hogan was a "terrible babyface" is like saying Charlie Chaplin was a terrible comedian. Although that may be a whacky French belief, I don't know.
-
The teams the Roadies lost the straps (AWA/NWA/WWF) to were all super unimpressive at the time, although at least DiBiase and Rotundo became a permanent, long-term team

Hogan vs Kamala from Dec 86 and Jan 87 MSG are both very good. Also a Dec 86 (I believe) match between the two in Boston. Hogan vs Savage in WWF was always fun. Just saw one from Oct 85 in Toronto last month that is awesome Hogan vs Terry Funk from SNME Jan 86 I linked today in another thread is a blast Basically you can't go wrong with most of Hogan's big matches from about 82-91 IMO
