  1. I watched this the first time around 97 I think and I remember not being too impressed with it, but I just rewatched it and it wasn't too bad, given the restrictions (ie: no blood) they had at the time. The commentary was minimal which was probably for the best
  2. Seeing matches like this reminds me of how good Nash could be when he wanted to. Yes, he got lazy later in his career, but why wouldn't he? I think it's more important that when he was young and still in good shape and about to receive a big push, he tried really hard to do his best.
  3. It's funny how they reprimanded the crowd for throwing the chairs (as they should have) but then they showed that footage every chance they got. It's a wonder it wasn't repeated more often by copycats.
  4. Luger is so good at the "will he turn/won't he turn" angles he's done about a million of them over the years. The Tatanka stuff is a good added bonus though. I didn't see it coming as a kid. Not sure if that says more about my naivety or what though lol
  5. He mentioned Gorgeous George as a former NWA champion so CLEARLY he's done his homework.
  6. This is classic WCW because the plaques are pretty nice. But then, I guess The Assassin didn't show his plaque because they accidentally made 2 Harley Race ones and he didn't get one made for him.
  7. I remember Meltzer saying that Tenta wasn't crazy about the idea of this match, due to his legit past. That may be why they gave him the win.
  8. Pretty good "street fight" clothes from a bunch of guys who always dress like they're in a street fight.
  9. I just read in the 2/14/94 issue that Elizabeth did commentary on ESPN speedboat racing.
  10. Also, I mean...he leaves the contract with Rude and walks off. Rude could have ripped it up and be done with it. There's got to be an easier way to make a match.
  11. If Brock was coming back to work 200 shows a year, then yes this was unquestionably one of the worst decisions ever. But the guy's already gone again for an indefinite amount of time. I really think WWE is just hedging their bets with Lesnar. They want to use his name to bring some more eyeballs to their product, they don't want to hand him the keys to the company by letting him work twice a year, destroying their top guys. That doesn't help anyone, except Brock who is already walking away with $5 million, so why should he care? We all already know that Brock could "really" beat Cena...or Sheamus...or Bryan or whoever. They need to establish an air of unpredictably to the Brock character that maybe he won't win every match. This is especially important if they really are planning on building Wrestlemania around him. If he beats Cena and 1 or 2 other top guys between now and then, who gives a fuck about who he would wrestle (bar, maybe the Undertaker)? And besides all that, there's the elephant in the room that this is a guy who will flake out on you in half a second. His wife probably doesn't love the business, she's had well-documented problems with you in the past, they've got several children...numerous reasons for him to not want to be there for too long.
  12. I love this match. I'm a sucker for good intentional (ok...and occasionally unintentional) comedy in a match and when it's enveloped by good work, it's even better.
  13. Yeah, car crash match. You want to look away at certain points, but are strangely compelled to watch.
  14. Ah, must be another case of multiple commentaries existing for one match. This is the version I've seen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1g3sJeyjmT8
  15. I liked it too after seeing it for the first time yesterday. But I will say, if you're not a fan of the Gorilla/Polo commentary team, it's in full force during this match.
  16. Funny, because I can remember Mick not saying some bad things about Gene in is his second book.
  17. One of them was Jeff Farmer (unfortunately not 'Jumpin' Jeff Farmer) aka nwo Sting/Cobra.
  18. If Starrcade 93 is such a big deal how come it's not in Des Moines?
  19. Love the buildup for this match, it's so heated so quickly.
  20. "Hey, let's make another one of those hype videos except let's put SCHIAVONE in it!"
  21. Haha, yeah. I woulda liked to have been there when someone corrected him.
  22. The fan reaction to a suplex about halfway in is my favourite fan reaction to anything ever. Really, the crowds at these SN tapings were always very good. It seemed like they had youth groups in there a lot because you'd see packs of kids with no adults around and they were just going wild throughout.
