I finished disk one and headed over to DVDVR to see what people were saying so far. I feel like I am on the complete opposite side of most people so far on my thoughts on rankings. I even watched a couple matches twice to make sure. Majority seems to be raving about certain matches where I thought it wasn't that great. Taking the stance of just watching the stuff on my own and if my ballot (whether I actually submit one) is way different than so be. Matt D's ballot seems to be as close to mine as possible though I rated the Heenan stuff higher. Bobby is pretty great on this set and probably my MVP. I've also been surprised with Gagne and down on Bockwinkle so far but trying to keep an open mind for the whole set.

I really never viewed Demolition as being a couple of fat guys. But over on DVDVR years back I got criticized for calling Yoko fat so maybe I'm not the one to judge. I thought they had a pretty decent look to them with some kick ass entrance music. They looked like a couple of guys who could kick ass. Not saying they had a ton of great matches but always thought they were a solid team.

I know there was pictures being taken but they seemed to be pipping in addition camera flash sounds. Was kind of distracting. Fun press conference though with the personalities involved. Sid brought the intensity in his promo.

[1992-01-31-WWF-MSG, NY] Bret Hart vs The Undertaker
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1992
It is interesting to see Undertaker plodding through the match and then bust out a flying clothesline. Crowd enjoyed that. Match was alright. Too bad they didn't let Taker pick up the pace in his matches at this time.- 13 replies

[1992-01-28-AJPW-New Year's Giant Series] Jumbo Tsuruta vs Stan Hansen
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1992
It wasn't the match I was expecting and didn't think it was as good as you guys did. I did like Hansen viciously attacking Jumbo's knee repeatedly. Both guys sold well and the finishing sequence was well done.- 12 replies

I agree it was a good match but took me a while to warm up to this. Slow early but Kikuchi took enough of beating and looked really plucky putting up a fight. There have been much better matches in January for AJPW than this though.

[1992-01-25-USWA-TV] Jeff Jarrett & Jerry Lawler vs The Moondogs
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1992
I like at one point where Jarrett and one of the Moondogs are near table in front of the crowd. Some old lady gets up out of her front row seat and walks away. She must have been terrified. Another great brawl with lots of objects being thrown around. It looks great on camera when a garbage can flies through the screen and hits someone.- 13 replies

Loved this match. Long beat down on Misawa until he crushes Fuchi with a forearm and makes the tag. Fuchi was loads of fun in this match. Not being completely familiar with the pecking order at this time there was added suspense on who would win and who would take the loss.

Pretty good match with the good guys doing a bit of cheating early in the match much to Ventura's disproval. He's also all over the finish too where Sting launches himself on top of Steamboat and Austin as Ricky gets the pinfall with Sting still on top. Seems very illegal to me. Rude and Austin aren't please and do an impressive beat down of Sting and Austin afterwards. Steamboat's selling of the second Rude Awakening is great.

It's hard to look at those concrete floor bumps that Cactus takes. If I had seen this live, probably would have been a lore more high on it. Hard to distinguish it from all the matches that have happened since. I haven't seen much of Van Hammer but this was the best so far. Dumping Missy in the water like that without her knowing is pretty mean.

It didn't seem like they were making much of an attempt to lip synch to the song. When the camera got a close up on them they were attempting to sing but the moments were they are walking through the crowd their mouths were barely moving. Stunningly awful at first until you can't but laugh at how bad it is.

I like big guys getting thrown around and enjoy a Steiner suplex or three but I thought Vader took too many here. The Steiners were dominating for the most part and at the expense of Vader since he spent most of the time in the ring for his team. I would have liked to see Vader get more offense in return. Rick hits a pretty good bulldog on Hughes for finish as he puts all his weight behind and drives him into the mat.

I thought this was great. Jumbo nails Kawada early with an open hand strike that knocks him down for the count. Jumbo is all annoyed as the ref scolds him but then kind of shrugs his shoulders to say "Yeah, I hit him pretty good when he was in the ropes." Kawada takes a bit of time to recover but after that I found it to be very even between the two. Lots of close falls at the end and I really liked to struggle to hit each other with a power bomb. Cool to see Kawada kick out of the first back drop driver.

Still the best Royal Rumble to date. Don't think we will be getting another fully shown Rumble on a yearbook. This match had a lot going for it with the winner becoming WWF Champion. Rumble was loaded with star power and some quality mid carders to fill things out. Flair obviously was the man the of the match, surviving a bunch of finishers and delivered a super post match promo. Davey, Piper, Michaels and Savage had pretty good performances also. Heenan was probably the second MVP of all this with one of the best commentary jobs. Savage eliminating himself was dumb but they did what they could to try cover this gaff since he was going to be in the final four. Hogan came off as such a heel in the closing moments when he got eliminated. He pulled the same stunt on his friends Savage and Warrior in previous Rumble be eliminating them from behind. Hogan had the look on his face when he realized the live audience wasn't full behind him.

[1992-01-19-WWF-Royal Rumble] Roddy Piper vs The Mountie
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1992
Finkel's announcements of new champions always sound great. Agreed that match wasn't much but a cool moment to see Piper win in the IC Title. I like how they were putting over him having the chance to win both titles in one night by winning the Rumble. -
[1992-01-12-WWF-Wrestling Challenge] Barber Shop: The Rockers
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1992
Obviously a great segment with how the split was done. Michaels tearing up the WWF magazine and throwing the Jannetty sided picture on the ground and hold up his own image was a great touch. My favorite part though is when they show the replay of the glass breaking from behind the window. Nice slow motion view where screen pauses with Jannetty going through it. -
I see Eaton was announced as just "Beautiful Bobby". Bagwell looks huge out there. The crowd totally wants Sting in the ring but him and Rude are kept apart for most of the match. My favorite part is when they can finally square off, the Dangerous Alliance is doing everything they can to hold back Rude with Eaton holding on to his leg. Crowd was eating that up.

[1992-01-17-USWA-Kennett, MO] Jeff Jarrett & Jerry Lawler vs The Moondogs
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1992
When they first start making their way over to the concession stand I couldn't help put notice someone on the ground in the hallway. I think they were running for their lives. That was incredibly to watch to just see everything get thrown around and each other. Everyone was getting blindsided by projectiles. Lawler completely launches at chair at one point like a spear. Jarrett's back was all kinds of messed up. Great stuff.- 19 replies

Fun match though felt a bit too short but makes for a nice tease going forward. I thought Eaton had missed his cue coming off the top rope too late but good on the announcing for pointing out how Larry was holding Dustin to get hit with the leg drop.

I noticed the while Flynn had some nice reach and speed with his kicks he could be erratic at times with accuracy (just missed a couple times on head kicks). Sano ends using this to benefit by catching one of them and putting a submission on. Sano's wrestling was the difference. Thought match was alright.

Good match with Fuchi being a lot of fun. The way he took out Kobashi's knee was great and him dropping Kenta on the edge of the apron was a nice touch. Kobashi does most of the work selling the knee. When Kobashi is getting worked over outside the ring the camera switches to a view where you see Misawa and Kawada remaining in their corner. Both have the look on their faces that says "Let him get out of this mess himself".

[1992-01-05-UWA] El Hijo del Santo vs Negro Casas
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1992
I'm not really into Lucha mat work myself but I'm willing to say part of that is my lack of familiarity on what they are doing at times. I think I completely skipped this match before because of the video/audio issues but gave it another try. Ended up actually really liking this match watching this time around. Had it's issues without audio as for the second fall the referee is not on camera when he counts the three. As others have said most of the match is on the mat until the end when they pull out a dive to the outside. Glad I gave it another shot. Finish was confusing though.- 33 replies

[1992-01-04-WCW-Saturday Night] Arn Anderson vs Dustin Rhodes
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1992
I concur here with everyone on how good this match was. That fan raging while holding her little kid in her arm was a bit scary. Some really good close falls at the end and I liked how this match sets things up for the following months with Dangerous Alliance feud.- 19 replies

[1992-01-04-USWA-TV] The Moondogs vs Jeff Jarrett & Robert Fuller
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1992
The crowd were really heated during this match. Coming off watching 1994 yearbook the Moondogs look a heck of a lot better here on this set. Match were I really wanted to see the whole thing as looked really good from the couple minutes we saw.- 17 replies
