Where can I find reliable information about Randy Savage?
victory replied to Martyn's topic in Pro Wrestling
This is the first site I thought of as well. The owner of this site posts on the KM board under the handle mr e man poffo. Seems like a very knowledgeable guy who wouldn't mind answering questions either. -
Just curious, how does this work tag team wise since that list has singles only? For example Steamboat is on the list, so would you be able to nominate the team of Steamboat/Youngblood? Thanks

I totally forgot about Ted Arcidi. First guy to bench 700lbs in a pro competition.

Road Warrior Animal always came across as legit strong. He never seemed to struggle when press slamming somebody. Where as Warrior always seemed to have trouble with that move. There's an old observer from the time around the bench press angle with the POP and Meltzer claimed Animal along with the Barbarian and the Warlord were close to being legit 600lb benchers. Supposedly Lex Luger was freakishly strong at a young age. Maybe not so impressive now, but he was benching over 400lbs in high school. Tony Atlas was considered pretty strong. He was known for being able to bench 500lbs without even warming up. I've read on some body building forums he was close to being a 600lb bencher. I've never seen that confirmed anywhere but those type of forums though.

My top guys for years have been Funk, Bock, Backlund and Savage. I've always been on the fence for who I'd put with them. Possibilities are Hansen, Flair, Race, Rose and Lawler. As the process moves along hopefully some more guys sneak into that top level.

I certainly think longevity should be a factor, it also shouldn't be the only determinative factor. I see it more as bonus points for teams that are closely tied in deciding which team I might rank higher. I guess it all depends on how much stock you put in longevity. Another criteria point for me would be how many promotions or territories they worked along with their placement on the card. With that being said I won't dismiss a team like the High Flyers since they only worked the AWA. That could also be seen as a positive to have longevity in one promotion. It really is a case by case basis.

Yeah they were certainly a ton of fun to watch in their short run. If they were really from the future, how come they couldn't avoid that accident then?

Good call. I forgot how fun that show was. I think the crowd and overall atmosphere give that show a big time feel. Always liked that MSG setup as well.

As mentioned Summerslam 2002 is a great show. Probably tops my list. Overall just a few filler matches. Beach Blast 92 is a fun show. Flamingo vs. Pillman, Sting vs. Cactus, Steamboat vs. Rude in a 30 minute iron man and the Steiners vs. MVC. Even a decent six man tag. This is a show that does have some junk, but the above more than make up for it IMO.

I feel the same way. Should be fun to see where certain teams finish.

Lawler at KOR 96: While Lawler is walking down the aisle for his upcoming match with Warrior he starts insulting random fans. Directed at a fat girl - " When you wear blue, do people try and put mail in you?" Directed at some woman - "Good to see you off the streets tonight" Directed at another woman - "Look at this face. It's faces like this which turn guys into people like Goldust" He says some more as well. These are the only ones I can remember.

I've finally got a chance to see my dad's favorite wrestler when he was a kid thanks to these videos. His favorite was Farmer Don Marlin. Seemed pretty athletic overall. I think Davis is pretty hilarious as an announcer. I wouldn't call him good though. Describing him as an old cartoon narrator is spot on.

I'm speechless. Very shocking. Really good guy from are interactions on other boards.

Does WC stand for Wrestling Classics? I presume it does. Anybody can sign up for that board, unless they just changed the rules recently.

I think you could make a case for it certainly. Then again for the most part their run was in one territory and the RNR we're on top or close to it in multiple. I wonder if Steamboat/Youngblood get the same knock as the Andersons when it comes to working one territory for the most part?
-
It certainly seems their strengths overshadow their weaknesses. I'm not sure I even agree totally with their top run when it comes to longevity as a weakness. Not that I don't agree with the length, just don't consider it that short when it comes to tag teams. I always felt tag teams need to be judged somewhat differently compared to singles runs. I have heard the Steamboat/Youngblood argument before now that you bring it up.
-
What's been the overall consensus or knock for the RNR Express not being in the HOF yet?

I just listed to the 2 part Sting interview. Geez is Ross getting annoying with the interrupting. I want to give this podcast up, but he does have some interesting upcoming guests.
-
That's a yes for me. Just for the hell of it I went on today before picking up the kids from school and sure enough I can still watch. My subscription expired on Sunday and I even checked to make sure I didn't have automatic renewal on last week. Not sure what to make of it. Are they giving me a free trial? Will they take me going on to watch as an automatic renewal? Strange to say the least.

I've listened to quite a few of them ( Tony Stewart, Chris Daughtry, Terry Crews, Deion Sanders, Jeremy Roenick and Herschel Walker). He hasn't had any wrestling guests yet. All of his guests seem to be his friends from the sports world or celebrities he has become friends with in his travels. I've enjoyed the ones I've listened to so far. They do come across like two friends shooting the shit though or reminiscing about old times. I almost feel like I'm eavesdropping instead of hearing an interview. He has comes across like a good guy and is a lot more articulate than I thought he would be. He does have the attitude of man's man, so keep that in mind. He has preached how as a society we are raising a bunch of wussies. That right there should give you an idea of how he thinks. Another thing is he should have someone screen the calls when they come in because everybody asks about the damn streak. Some guy even called in and imitated Adam Sandler from the Water Boy and it took him a while to catch on that the guy was pranking him. The Austin and Jericho ones are better, but its better than the Piper or Ross ones IMO.

Wonder what obit type it will be: All-out obit in the feature section Extended story in "Here & There" Bare-bones writeup in Here & There, with a "we'll have more on Lucas in a future issue", which often isn't followed up on Greg Oliver over at Slam has a decent obit on Ken Lucas if anybody is interested. http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Wrestling/2014/08/07/21860241.html

Andre getting his hair cut and losing his "dignity" might be a good inclusion.

It was on WWE 24/7, so it's ready to go. Them wanting to add it is another issue. Wasn't it mostly 93 with a few random episodes of other years? I'd love to see episodes from 86 or 87.

I'd be interested in hearing his thoughts on his AWA run. Possibly what he would of done if he were running things during that time frame.

I knew they shouldn't of brought back the six sided ring. Damn hexagons!
