Beating the drum here, but not until thinking back about Heenan following his passing did it really occur to me how just how prominent he was as I became a wrestling fan and throughout those formative years. I was very much your typical Hogan junkie and then hopped onto Savage when his moment came. The turn heading into 5 made him the biggest heel I'd known to that point.
However, Heenan was that constant foil for Mania's before and after, and more importantly throughout the weekly television. He ensured that I was behind behind every single babyface while serving as the glue and arguably most important weekly character on television. Amazing to think about the trust that was put into him compared with basically any color commentator since then.
