  1. The first five minutes of the version on the Blu Ray was very obviously sourced from a VHS tape, there is a very pronounced quality difference once the five minute mark hits.
  2. Dammit Herodes you're supposed to save the juicy stuff like that for the Hotline!
  3. I would also think it's a safe bet that if they roll with Kenny vs Penta that: (A) Kenny's pride as a performer won't allow the match to be a standard Penta "indie formula" match and (B) Penta will be motivated by working in front of what will be the largest US crowd of his career so far.
  4. To people that keep bringing up Lawler: If he was convicted, there is no way in hell WWF would have ever brought him back under any circumstance. WCW also likely would have stayed far the fuck away. Yeah, after getting out of jail he would probably still be working all around Tennessee indies and Ian Rotten probably would have booked him for IWA Mid South, but if convicted Lawler's career would have ended on a mainstream level then and there.
  5. I had the same exact thought when watching the Photo Shoot episode. It was especially jarring when they would cut back and forth between current Kurt's comments on the photos and the clips of his old promos. I know such speculation isn't something to be tossed around lightly but it legit made me wonder if there are some CTE issues going on affecting his current promo abilities.
  6. The other side effect of Smackdown heading to FOX I didn't think of: while I dont expect Sinclair to be able to preempt Smackdown without pissing off the main network, I wouldn't be surprised if all of a sudden Ring of Honor starts getting the Friday night 7pm lead-in slot before the main network goes live with Smackdown, or the stations that dont have 10pm news shows run it immediately after.
  7. Any idea what got cut from the Pentagon/Hernandez segment? On air Penta hit like two moves and Hernandez was out, but when he was being carried from the ring Hernandez had a gash on the top of his head and there was a blood smear on the canvas.
  8. The really sad part is that CM Punk probably doesn't even realize that his health, safety, and well-being was as exploited by Dana White and Duke Roufus as it ever was by Vince McMahon and WWE.
  9. Please keep Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks as far away from Invader I as possible.
  10. There was one six-man tag at an untelevised Omni that was won by the Horsemen and that was the end of it. Michael Hayes got a brief house show run later that year against Flair but Gordy and Buddy were already gone from JCP so it was more of a "Hayes is the contender of the month" deal than "Freebirds vs Horsemen"
  11. If it stays at one Hidden Gem release per week, the uploads like Flair vs Brisco are going to be treasured but I really hope we dont get too many weeks where the one upload is "4 minute Velocity job match with guy that's a star now."
  12. If they are committed to doing Hidden Gems as a weekly dump, that is a brilliant idea. Give the folks looking for that stuff weekly incentive to keep subscribing and interacting.
  13. Eh, given that a good chunk of the WWWF fan base was still Northeast folks that were first or second generation Americans from immigrant families, having someone like Rocca on commentary makes sense. I personally find his proclamation upon hearing about a match he is excited to see that "I am going to take my shoes off and enjoy this!" very charming and quaint.
  14. A 1997(?) Missouri-based upstart with TV featuring Iron Sheik, Greg Valentine and Bob Backlund, with Gordon Solie on commentary. Was this Gordon's last on-air gig?
  15. This. A lot of the anti-resthold rhetoric is a product of fans weaned on 80s WWF. I never saw an Observer until 1998 but even at 8 years old I knew that if the next match on 1986 Prime Time Wrestling was Magnificent Muraco wrestling Dan Spivey from Toronto, and four minutes in Muraco put a lightly applied chinlock on, the match was going to be a 20 minute draw and it was going to be a slog to get to the end.
  16. I was watching this a week or so ago. I did not remember Austin having a knee brace that early in his career. By the way: how did the Z-Man name got by S&P?His name was Tom Zenk, so Z-Man wasn't much of a stretch. Yes, say it a certain way and it can sound like 'Seaman'. Not a big enough deal for S&P to bother with if you have to go that far for the joke. I had a random Saturday Night fired up the other day when a friend dropped by. He watches the modern stuff and WWE back in that era but WCW pre Monday Nitro is a blind spot. Friend: "Why do they call him the Z-Man?" Me: "Because he's the best wrestler in the world, from A to Z...MAAAN!" Friend: "really?" Me: "No but even that would've been more effort and creativity than the real reason."
  17. That was pretty much my biggest disappointment with the first episode. It really was just an episode of the podcast but with webcams of each host. I was hopeful that there would be a lot of cutaway video while they talked in the background to highlight a lot of the moments they were talking about, like in the early few minutes when they talked about Tyson's aborted 1990 referee run it would have been a great place to insert even a 5-second clip of Buster Douglas refereeing that match with an event name and tag to look for it in the Vault section. The webcam thing is whatever but there definitely could have been a lot more video cut ins to spruce up and provide more visual flair to the presentation.
  18. Thanks khawk! I had given up the idea that Winnipeg AWA was in the library that WWE had since it hadn't surfaced yet but hoping the Andre/Bockwinkel match will lead to more! Now if only WWE had the glory days World Class Fort Worth TV in full, though my understanding is the original broadcasts of those aren't in the WWE library acquisition.
  19. I am very stoked at the posting of the full match between Andre The Giant and Nick Bockwinkel, if only because it confirms that WWE has AWA Winnipeg Arena TV in its library as well. There could be a lot of hidden gems in there if they choose to exploit it, which if course if a big "if".
  20. http://www.laweekly.com/arts/suburban-fight-pro-wrestling-stages-bar-fight-style-pro-wrestling-in-a-bar-without-a-ring-video-premiere-9299627 Matt Cross vs Brody King brawling in a bar in downtown Los Angeles.
  21. Calling it now. Whichever league says "we won't test for pot" will win the best talent and the spring football race. If neither takes that step, they are both DOA.
  22. I am pretty confident in saying that Usos vs New Day is the best tag team rivalry of the modern era, maybe even more than the Smackdown Six era, and should be mentioned in the same breath as Rock N Roll vs Midnight Express.
  23. Holy shit Goc. Way to continue doing the Lord's work here. THANK YOU!
  24. Ernie Ladd vs Pete Sanchez from 1/17/76 is an absolutely beautiful big man vs underdog bout, with one of the most fun opening sequences I have seen in a while. A good example also of Ladd being a great bumper during his more mobile years, and some fun stooge selling to make Sanchez look credible against him.
  25. 1/10/76 - one of the greatest incompetent jobber moments in wrestling history during the Ernie Ladd handicap match, and Ernie's promo where he refuses to call Vince by his name and condescendingly keeps calling him "Mr. TV Announcer" I also watched the episode from August 79 with Piper on it. Really weird booking, I kind of got the vibe Roddy already rubbed the old man or someone else the wrong way backstage before the match even begun, as he got booked in a competitive 10-minute draw with Jose Estrada, five minutes of which was him selling a bear hug. It was still cool to see the Fieldhouse crowd responding positively to fiery young upstart face Roddy Piper, just weird booking for a guy making his All Star Wrestling debut with - what I assume - a little bit of a name from the magazines and from LA's television being syndicated to Spanish stations. And Albano coming out for a few seconds randomly getting in Piper's face blew my mind just for the tease of a face Piper vs heel Albano feud.
