At least it led to the hilarity that was the YOU DON’T KNOW HIM! chant during Shat’s speech, when it was clear the only reason he was there was Lawler’s fandom and one-off pair of segments (King’s Court and post main event shenanigans) on a Raw to promote his USA Network show Tek Wars!

It wasn’t mentioned in the massive Herb Notes info dump for the July SNME episode, so I wonder, considering it was part of the reasoning why the finish at MSG was disappointing, if it’s brought up anywhere (Dave, whomever else was around in 1990) leading up to, or after the SummerSlam match.

Austin’s retooled “podcast” (because podcast is audio), focusing on guest’s career, has been getting promotion.

Another point, I’d imagine this is being used by New York Yankee fans this year when it comes to their soon to be latest baseball Hall of Famer, Derek Jeter. Never mind how overrated Jeter is, in terms of belonging in a discussion of all-time greats, but it is a silly argument by fans with Pinstriped Colored Glasses to suggest that since no one following Jeter is on his “level” in terms of being a “leader, winner, etc” so might as well close up the shop in the baseball Hall of Fame, and the Yankees’ Monument Park. Also, this is an actual reason why a, thankfully, small handful of voters (members of the Baseball Writers Association of America) have only voted for Jeter (you can vote for a maximum of 10 players every year). While their opinion of the others on the ballot might be fair, in their mind anyway, its a silly notion when thinking about voting for candidates that might deserve some more looks into their records, etc.

Granted the WWE’s went dormant for about a decade, before they figured out how to monetize the induction ceremony, and found large enough niche audiences for HOF labels on home video collection and collectable items (figures and trading cards), but at least there are physical THINGS that they get as HOFers (never mind most of the most deserving candidates were either still active or had IRL heat with the company). Plus there is always talk of a physical Hall coming to the Performance Center. But nothing screams “why is a Hall that exists only on someone’s hard drive getting more attention than physical ones in Texas, St. Louis, etc” than the idea of “ceasing” it once someone gets in, because, according to ONE PERSON, going forward there will be a bit of a dry spell for candidates on his level.

Bischoff should be in with the nWo. I’m iffy on Syxx, but only because he wasn’t around for all that long before infamously getting fired while injured and going back to the WWF.

I’m surprised that Conrad didn’t follow up Arn’s reasoning for a full on kayfabe autobiography (not wanting to ruin the magic, so to speak, for the book’s readers) with a “so, what are you doing here on a complete 4th wall and kayfabe breaking podcast?”

1) I’d be shocked if Jericho still has an uninterrupted run going through early 2020 (hedging the bet against a “chase” angle and another Jericho reign through the next All In). I mean don’t forget Terry Funk’s ECW runs, and Jericho has never announced a “retirement” 3-5 times between his first WWE hiatus and now! 2) Is there a 1994 Joey Styles that you think is unsigned elsewhere that JR and Tony are holding back with their mere presence? They are beloved by the general wrestling fan base, it is wise to use well known, and regarded, voices at a launch.

Jericho being AEW’s Terry Funk, and doing it well, should move him up some notches.

To be fair, this isn’t 1993 and “youngster Carlos Colon” anymore. Anyone with access to a good search engine can find stuff going back to pre-ECW on Jericho. To say nothing about Jericho’s Raw debut is on any WWE “top debut” compilations, and that is hitting its 20th Anniversary this month (wouldn’t surprise me if this time it gets trotted out with some fun poking intent). I get the point that Jericho himself shouldn’t call attention to it, but at the end of the day, it is pretty common knowledge that he’s been around since, well, before WCW was the name of a promotion!

I really hope it becomes “The view never changes” 2019 style Nothing like a good Arn turn after luring the face into a false sense of security!

Speaking of scummy, PodAvenue was shuttered, which like I hadn’t listened since...actually right around Brian’s death I think. Been meaning to, but a lot of things going on, and so many pods to listen to. And I just chalked no episodes since May up to a busy early summer, or whatever, for one or both. BUT, their Patreon is STILL ACTIVE! That’s scummy! Granted when I quit last night there were just two others, so I’ll assume they were in the same boat as I am, didn’t realize that shit had gone down. I probably should, and just might report it to Patreon, but there are other “creators” that are still active, even though the non-Patreon part of their project is completed, and I gather there is no way to get a hold of a creator whom had gone radio silent since June. But still...couldn’t hurt to try.

Surprised no one followed this shit. I was lapsed on the pod and changed my device that I subscribe to the RSS to late last month and had issues downloading recent episodes. In fact the hosting site PodAvenue doesn’t even exist anymore! I sent a Twitter DM to Lawler’s co-host through the pod’s account about all of this and got no response, and wondered WTF happened. And OOOOOHHHH BOY what a shit show it turned out to be once I did a little digging. Turns out the co-host, Glenn Moore, was selling Lawler memorabilia (mostly shirts and commissioned artwork) for high-end prices without King’s consent or knowledge. And more importantly stiffing buyers of the products complete with endless runaround style back-and-forth conversations about shipping and such, including a charity organization. Things get murky timeline wise about when King found out, or how deep things were as one interview King said he fired Moore back in December but the pod was active through mid-May and Moore was still hawking stuff on the show’s behalf through June. Then in early July news started breaking, Lawler made the rounds that included local (Memphis) TV news. At that point Moore went radio silence/off the grid and hasn’t been heard from since (usually tweeted about wrestling and Cleveland sports)! Interestingly, in mid-July Lawler made social media posts saying he’d try to make everything right with those whom Moore had scammed, but according to articles floating around a few weeks ago Lawler has been silent on the subject since! Granted its been suggested that its for the best that Lawler not get into more legal controversies while his lawsuit over Brian Christopher’s death hasn’t been resolved yet, but it is strange that King has been completely silent on the issue for over a month since saying he’d work with those that were scammed, including the charity organization. Anyway, certainly a bizarre way for a podcast to “podfade*” *Term for a podcast that ceases production without any notice or warning from the host (whether its an actual farewell episode, or a social media posting, etc).

Its actually the same as slipping when it comes to stadium names, whether its a naming rights sale or not, and even sport team’s city names. So some slack can be given to calling WWE, WWF, especially if thats what they were when you were first exposed to the company.

But to be fair, its not like the rebranding was an intentional move to make sure everyone was aware its more of an entertainment company than a pro-wrestling company. Everything they’ve done since would have happened if McDevitt had won the lawsuit with the pandas or not!

Its hard for some to get around the idea of someone double crossing them. A PED supplier to a famous athlete once admitted in an affidavit that he kept evidence, including used items for taking the drugs in the event that the athlete turned on him. A sports talk show host, who was completely on the athlete’s side, so that may have something to do with the reaction, found this so inconceivable that someone, no matter how much of a slimeball, would do such a thing “in case the guy double crossed me.” While as I said, the sports radio guy was a big supporter of this piece of shit athlete, but I can see someone being incredulous of what Vince and company did to Bret that night.

The other day the SummerSlam 1990 main event came up in a This Day In History segment. And the non-fan gravitated completely to mocking the use of “Rude” for Richard Rood’s stage name. Okay, whatever. But one of this guy’s pet peeves is when legal names aren’t actual names, or legit spellings of names. So if he only knew Jim Hellwig’s legal name post 1993, and what his widow and two children from that marriage have as last names! *rolls eyes*
